You're a strange man. When I go camping, the only thing I take from civilization are a swag, a towel, sausages and alcohol. Laptops stay at home.

Maybe I should be ashamed to admit it, but I've taken a laptop camping. I actually took a 3 day retreat to the mountains to finish a personal project. I had a bunch of batteries and halfway through a friend came and swapped it for me.

I got a ton of work done. No one can interrupt you when your phone has 0 bars.

one thing about Alltel, we are well know for rural coverage, I can go into the woods and mountains, of Arkansas camping, where very few people live, and still have service, but I see what your saying, sometimes its nice to have no service

Do you find yourself reducing your internet usage to avoid hitting it? I know I'd hit that most months out of the year, but I'm a big internet video fan.

Not really. I don't have a lot of space on my hard drive anyway, so I rarely torrent, but apart from that I don't even think about it.

@El Rab: ADSL 2 (+) is okay. Switches for it are few and far between though, so you might not see much of an increase speed wise. Our ADSL2+ switch was far enough away that we only just topped ADSL1 speeds.

@El Rab: ADSL 2 (+) is okay. Switches for it are few and far between though, so you might not see much of an increase speed wise. Our ADSL2+ switch was far enough away that we only just topped ADSL1 speeds.

I could hit that cap without torrents just from our ustream habit (shiba-inu-puppycam was a big hit here). Hulu also takes a quite a chunk out of my monthly allotment.

When you camp you build fires (matches are fine if you want to bring some), sleep in the open (or pitch a tent if you want) and look at the stars in the sky which is much clearer than your laptop's LCD could ever hope to be. cool
