You walk into an Apple store or an authorised reseller and you ask for the latest iPad. If they don't have it, you get the second latest. That's it. End of transaction. When asked later, "what iPad do you have?", even years later, you'll respond "the 2011 one".
Yeah, not so much any more.

You have to take any rumors "confirmed" by an anonymous samsung "Excutive" with a pound of salt. They haven't been very accurate in the past.

I'll believe it when I see it. Anonymous sources from within Samsung don't have me convinced.

@The20: it is like, $100 cheaper, and you know what you're getting into. You're not exactly being sold a false bill of goods here, you can take it or leave it and wait for the latest version to come into stock. I wouldn't take it personally, no, but people on lower incomes might accept the tradeoff. A year old iPad 2 is still a fantastic device, after all. Hell, the original iPad is stil holding its own, two years on.

So far I haven't been convinced that they're anything more than just shinier and more expensive products with a more streamlined interface out of the box, as opposed to having to customize your own, which takes effort.
Apple makes a computer appliance for people who want to treat their computer like an appliance, and people who want a computer appliance have Apple to turn to.

People like you don't matter, you're not in the loop.

Complaining about Apple's closed system is like complaining that feminine hygiene products don't also come in manlier packages in case a man wants one.

They're not for you.

Get over it.

Out of all these posts, the things no one has bothered to question are these.

Why did Apple not include Siri on the third generation iPad?

While the dictation mode is a handy tool, I have no need for a software tool that requires the use of a data plan to work. Dictation is handled by voice recognition that requires the device to be connected to the web.

Why bother? I can already make quick voice recordings and use that when I get back to my desktop.

Siri is one of the few compelling reasons I would bother to get an iPad with a data plan.

And one more thing...

Given that the new models have such vastly higher graphic power, the apps are growing as well to support them. iMovie is now over 400 megabytes. I'm sure iPhoto and the three iWork apps are going to be more bloated as well.

Start multiplying that by the number of apps you will want on your device, along with all the local data you won't want to pay to get off the 'cloud' when you need it, and even 64 gigabytes is paltry. What good is cloud computing if you're going to hit your data cap every month when you're away from your home or office?

I'm sticking with my two iPod Touches and my laptops for now. Apple really needs to rethink their plans if they really want a post PC world given the mistakes they've made with this generation of devices.

Siri is awful, why would you want to inflict that on your iPad? I got my iPhone 4S convinced Siri would change the way I used my phone and ended up advising friends and family instead that the 4S is not a compelling upgrade and to wait another year. The new iPad isn't missing much.

App bloat is something I think comes with the territory, though, because compelling user experiences don't come cheaply (megabyte wise), but it's offset by storage becoming cheaper and more plentiful. I don't think it'll be a huge problem, long term.

Let me translate:
You are not the target demographic for Apple, just like you're not the target demographic for lady hygiene products. You're not bitching about the packing for the aforementioned lady hygiene products being "unmanly" therefore you're going firmly into hypocrite territory by doing the same to Apple.

Before you start, I'm not an Apple Fangirl. Apart from a little dabbling, I've been exclusively using Windows since 3.1 and was using MSDOS before that.

However, I do have the wisdom to see that some people like apples and some people like oranges. Heck I've seen people that like limes. It's their money, their decision.

The argument still makes no sense. Macs and PCs ARE for the same purpose. Personal computing, office computing, work computing, gaming and creativity computing. In other words, COMPUTING. People consider Macs or PCs. Meanwhile men have no reason to consider female menstrual products. And I'm not bitching about the packaging of the product, I'm bitching that it's the packaging that is making it so overpriced. Macs are NOT BAD COMPUTERS. They just make you pay WAY MORE for the same quality. Where does the extra money go towards? Apart from their profit, you're paying for the looks of the device. And right now, Apple is popular, because Apple is popular. More and more people want Apple products just because everyone else has Apple products. Yes, the same was true for PC, and the same criticisms applied when cheaper and perhaps equal quality options were available. (Not speaking of Windows exclusively. Speaking PC) But Apple are even more overpriced. There's no reason to get a Mac other than the looks. Macs are only going to be better if the price is not an issue. Well, there's compatibility but they're really working hard on that.

Some people like apples, some people like oranges. But apples and oranges aren't used for the same purpose, are they? When you want to make a citrus pie, you can't use an apple.

As opposed to you, I have way too much Mac experience for my liking. They're not bad computers, not at all. But they're different and their alternative to Windows Explorer is just... Bad. Lack of a proper taskbar is another poor design choice in my opinion. But again, my opinion here. What ISN'T strictly my opinion, is how overpriced a Mac is. My top tier gaming rig costs just a bit more than THE CHEAPEST MacBook Pro laptops. (Current gen) PLEASE correct me if I'm mistaken.

When did I complain about Apple's closed system too? Windows is a closed system, so what?

And what's the spiel about treating computers like appliances? Windows somehow doesn't let you do that? I seriously don't get it. Macs are for people who just want to use computers? Okay... So how come Windows is somehow worse for that? More viruses? No longer really true since Macs became mainstream. PC viruses stem from misuse. Mac viruses stem from misuse. Download porn and toolbars, you'll get viruses on both.

To sum it up, the argument doesn't make any sense because Macs and Windows are meant for the same purpose, not for entirely different people. Because when I want to buy a computer, I have to choose, PC or Mac. Unlike having to choose between buying a tampon or not buying a tampon as a man. (For personal use, that is. Disregard that tampons and pads actually have alternative uses)

First, Windows is not a closed system like an Apple is. Windows OS is closed, but the hardware is open. Secondly, windows does not allow you to treat your computer like an appliance. You don't have to configure a stove or refrigerator. You just buy one for what you need it to do. The Apple "just works" thing allows you to buy a product you know will work out of the box for the thing you want it to do.

PC often allows for cheapness, and it allows for a lot more configuration and options, but that comes at the cost of time.

It's really not that simple around here.

@Aven: Basically, you're not going to listen to any form of reason, because if you had reason you'd see you're wrong. So instead, you'd rather stick fingers in your ears, even AFTER you said you'd like for someone to tell you why Apple is the way it is or how it's better, but god damnit, you're right and that's that.

Basically, the feminine hygiene argument works perfectly in this situation.

but, it does fit. You can use douche or tampons as a male if you wanted/needed to. Most men would rather use the shower or cotton balls though.
