ok windows completely crapped out on me the other day. i reinstalled it and then reinstalled steam ontop of the old install so that i would not have to reinstall the orange box which i had just got a couple days prior.

well due to something else i had set my clock back a year. all fine and dandy but when i went to save in half life 2:ep1 it would claim that it saved but the save file would never show up.

it took me over a day to figure out that it sorted them by date and the save file were appearing at the bottom of the list.

any simuliar situations?

Was trying to teach somebody PHP and spent 10 minutes or so troubleshooting the fact that he couldn't get anything to show up before I realized I forgot to tell him to actually start the server software...

I have this really stupid problem where I try to play HL2... and after about 10 or 15 minutes, I get bored out of my mind and wish I'd never bought it in the first place.

Portal was fun, but the rest of the Orange Box was just dumb as hell. Worst $50 spent ever.

Does that qualify?

My friend once had problems trying to connect to his wi-fi network on his laptop. Five minutes later I realized that he forgot to turn the wireless switch on... stare

Trying to fix a friend's computer after his brother messed it up. He managed to deactivate the Task Manager, "to keep everyone safe".

I hate those switches! I can't think of a situation where I've used it, or where someone actually would use it, instead of commands in the OS.

I turn on the computer back from sleep. Nothing. Blank screen. Fan at 100%. Rebooted: same problem, and it doesn't even POST.
After being unusable for about a day, I unplug the power cord and plug it back again. The computer boots up normally! Happened several times.

In Ubuntu 6.10:
  • every once in a while no new windows appear. i.e. when I start a new program it's window doesn't appear. Restart X, problem solved.
  • The screen rotated to the left. I mean the whole screen just wrapped around, the right edge being somewhere near the middle, and the left edge showing from the right. The biggest surprise, though, is that the mouse no longer is where it appears.
  • Tooltips in Firefox eclipsing my bookmarks toolbar. This drives me mad!

You mean, besides the fact that its mandated for being there so that idiots can turn off their laptop's wireless functions quick and painlessly and at the same time abide by international flight regulations so that airplane maneuvers aren't hampered by artificial radio noise?

Start typing on the keyboard for the computer that you're not working on, and wonder why nothing's happening redface

Back a bit ago, some of you may know I was screwing with an ASUS raid array that someone totaly fucked........I was also modding the bios to load my own logo. Cheap ad, yknow?


But, because google listed the p4c800 and the p4c800 delux on the same page, I ended up getting th wrong bios....


oddly, it worked!
then, I tried to OC the processor.
thank god for floppy boot flashes.
