Welcome to Gaia! ::

Heya, I'm a coder, and I've not taken any formal classes in programming. I'm also a networking ,and have self taught myself everything.

how many of you guys have self-taught yourself stuff like coding, and how did you come to learn of it? Care to share any links to resources?

I myself really like Lifehacker's Night School serise, taught a bunch of stuff from coding to photoshop.

Not gonna get you certified, but a good place to start learning some pretty neat stuff.

"thenewboston" on YouTube has some very nice and easy to follow tutorials.

I started with python which was wasy enough to learn.

Why's Poignant Guide to Ruby is also very good to begin with.

Mmm, interesting. I learned a little bit of Python, but only after learning some other object oriented languages xDD

Has anyone by any chance looked into 'Haxe'? I herd it's some sorta multiplatform thing...

Based on the (very poorly written) Wikipedia article and their website I'm extremely skeptical of the language/platform. It makes some interesting claims and I will give it a fair shot, but I'm not going to hold my breath on the authors' assertions.
With that compiled guide are the lectures by Richard Buckland useful after my first year of IT at university? I'm interested in it because my current software lecturer is pretty terrible. So I was looking for something to supplement. If not I'll just check out some of the books.

--EDIT--
That wasn't very clear. I did an intro to IT course which was well done, but now into a programing unit, the lecturer isn't great and I am looking for learning material to go on to after the intro.

I would say it's still worth watching all of the Richard Buckland videos even if you think the first class will be mostly review. If you're really in a hurry you can start with the second class.

Cheers, I have all the time in the world, just don't have confidence in the quality of the programing being taught here.
