Chances are, you dont have the focus. You have to really want to learn.

Buy the book learn java in 14 days. or basics of java.

You don't really need any books until you've been through that, and even if you have, use Google for more first. Don't waste your money.

Find a For Dummies book about Java. They're really easy to understand and they're very helpful if you want to learn Java quickly.

If you want something deeper, get "Java: How to program" by Deitel & Deitel. I used it in college and it's rather dense, but very complete.

Beginning Programming with Java for Dummies.

The first book that really got me into computers is "Fixing and upgrading PC's for Dummies." The 1997 version or something.

I wandered out of the library
and saw a girl sketching the landscape,
breasts straining against the V of her sweater,
surrounded by laughing guys
who'd probably never even seen the entropy formula,
and then I knew.

Really the best way to learn Java (or any programming language) is to take a class. Maybe your school offers a course on it?

Don't say things like this. They are not helpful. All they do is set people up for failure.

Hm, I'm a webmaster and my website is run off php, html, CSS, and some javascript.
And I've setup a few cron jobs, and have a few backends that use perl.

I've never taken a class. I'm fully self-taught.

But yeah, books and online tutorials will help you alot.
But don't buy them unless you have to.
Sometimes the local libraries have {insert programming language here} for Dummies books.
