Welcome to Gaia! ::

I was just going through my music library in iTunes today (4G iPod) when I had a thought. The multiple interfaces and all of the pretty flowing things that they used must eat a lot of RAM.

Opening the Task Manager, I expected the memory usage I've gotten used to (About 100MB). I've just upgraded to 7.6, so this may be a new issue, but I was stunned with what I saw.

This was taken while the program was idle. I wasn't even in an interface using any graphics, because I find the 'spreadsheet-only' mode is the most responsive and easiest to use.

This is more memory than some people I know have in their computer. This makes me thankful I upgraded to 2GB a bit ago, and brings me to wonder how anyone could use iTunes with any less.

How can anyone bear to use a program that uses so much RAM to do so little? I've compared - Windows Media Player 11 uses about 40MB while playing audio. That's a stunning difference.

UPDATE: I just hit a new maximum. This is epic.

counterstrike: source uses that much while i'm ingame
Fire up a clean install of iTunes and it wont look like roadkill.
My current iTunes install with Cover Flow operating is 120,006k. Looks like you have something funny going on, or a hell of a lot of music.

\EDIT: for comparison notes, I have 10,000 songs and 80 videos in the library.
I have 7,200 songs at present and about 30 movies.

I'll go for a clean install, as much as that bothers me.

EDIT: After a clean install, it's better.

Which begs the question: Why would Apple set up a software update program which does SUCH a crappy job of updating?

The update job is sloppy on Windows only. Apple has perfected the art of s**t poor crossovers.

This might be just another example of something that needs to be brought to their attention.
I feel for those with slow computers with that much from one program.

FUBAR can be many things
******** Up Beyond All Reason
******** Up Beyond All Recognition
******** Up Beyond All Redemption

the R could be a number of things, not just Repair.
edit: so be nicer to people.
also, i don't think I've ever used it, or seen it used as Repair.

Repair is the official acronym end, as originally used in World War II.

Also, recognition and Redemption don't fit in, because the program has been identified as iTunes as well as redeemed itself with fixing the problem.

Also, slow computers unable to handle this program at this size dont meet the minimum requirements and therefore have nothing to worry about.

And somehow this means you're not an a**?
Admit you were being an a** and say you're sorry, there's no need to pick apart somebody's post.

I wasnt being an a**. I was using an example to prove that she needed to read all posts before she posts herself.

This is a common problem in the main forum of C+T. We constantly have people repeat the same answer, and it infuriates OP and regs alike.

I am just taking a conscious effort to help prevent it.

If I wanted to be an a**, I would tell her to go jump off a cliff because she posted. /:
I have not done such. I am not being an a**.
Doctor Four: Kiyo's right.
Are all those "i***.exe" processes apart of iTunes? If so then iTunes adds more resource use than just the GUI and the help service. And that is why I am glad I only use WMP, having 1.5GB of RAM still might not help me from that hog.
