Yep, foobar2000 absolutely rocks when it comes to memory usage. Uses less than Winamp in HD space AND RAM usage, has a massive amount of support for different audio formats, multithreaded file conversions (so it makes usage of dual or quad core CPUs, so you can convert up to 4 or more files at once), secure mode CD ripping...I hardly use anything else.
By the way, I just felt it was worth noting that their system requirements for iTunes are the following:

apple.com

System Requirements

* Mac OS X or Windows
* Mac OS X 10.3.9 or 10.4.7 or later

Also, better is relative. It only uses about 150-200MB idle now.

I'm still not impressed by far.
So, question...

Should I switch over to WinAmp then? I mean, I have 2GBs of Ram, but I don't want it sucked up by iTunes, cause I have background running stuff.

dear god i can't believe i didn't notice that (she did spell it wrong) *I* use that program.

@kiyoske&rydian
now would be a good time to say sorry to her.

Yep, Winamp is slim enough to run fine, although my personal recommendation is foobar2000. I switched to fb2k from Winamp ages ago, and I haven't came back since, since mainly fb2k does exactly what I want in a audio player, and nothing else.

But on topic though, Winamp has nice support for portable music players (like the iPod), so switching over won't be that much of a hassle.

Yes. You are totally right.

I'm sorry that you don't know how to spell Foobar and not FUBAR ma'am. I'll try better to decipher the cypts of shorthand next time. /:
While kiyo may have 'aplogized' in a really... fake way, he's right again.

It may not be his fault, but you can't blame him, it was a mistake any of us could have made easily.

Why? are you running more then 1.8 GBs worth of software besides itunes?
Why have 2GBs of ram if your getting afraid when programs start actually using it.

This goes for a lot of people I had a friend who was so a**l about his ram usage that he was using all these weird a** low footprint solutions for no real reason other than to feel special about himself or something its crazy. Apps will have more and more Ram usage as the years come In it doesn't mean it's broken.

And I am one of those people. I am a strong opposer of programs that are bloated. I really don't think people who use efficient solutions to programs are crazy at all. I just have high standards in what I want running on my PC. And there is nothing wrong with that. And, IMO, iTunes is not efficient for what it does, considering its harddrive, CPU and RAM requirements. .

I have 2GBs of RAM, yet I use low footprint solutions, like MySQL and foobar2000. Mainly because I just want my system to do its job, and do it very well. I say, though to me, increased system requirements over the years are due to lack of optimizations, as I know there are ways to make better use of hardware that is out there, like low-end computers. Heck, I program for that goal in mind! smile Because, not all people out there have cutting edge tech, and its not fair to discriminate.

no, no he's not.
with the exception of that one acronym it was a worthwhile post. there was no reason to post what kiyo posted in the first place, it was offtopic and unnecessarily rude.
while he may have been correct in his facts he was unjustified in his actions.
Excuse me, you seem to have quoted me, when it seems you have some sort of animosity towards kiyo.

EDIT: I was defending the fact that he made a mistake, not his attitude. If she's insulted, she can feel free to PM me about it.
To get us all back on topic, I have a new screenshot. This one makes the last one look like nothing.

That's not doctored. Seriously.

I'm speechless. Simply speechless.
