Great, I bet you would also like a better term than "gaiafag".

I'd prefer not to be called a f** regardless of what it's being attached to

@Topic

This thread gives me watery shits and I think I'm slightly dumber from reading this.

Hacker is a negative term, nerds like to think it isn't though.

EDIT: In retrospect, I would like a better term for those weirdos.

Computer Meanies maybe?
They're attention-starved children who want nothing more than to wreak havoc and proclaim, "WORSHIP ME, I'M COOL CUZ I USE CAPS LOCK AND 1337 5P34K!" when, in reality, they're actually pretty dumb and couldn't hack their way out of a cardboard box without tools that someone else wrote.

Guy at college yesterday was telling me about some person that was talking to him on the internet, claiming he was a "hacker". Friend at college told the "hacker" to "hack" 127.0.01, telling him it was his computer. He started getting messages from the "hacker" along the lines of "HAHAHA, IM DELETING ALL YOUR FILES". After about 5 minutes, the guy went offline. He came back 2 weeks later, "******** YOU etcetcetc".

Made me think of that, "I hacked 127.0.0.1" shirt.

And as much as this joke is retold over and over, it amazes me that it still works all too frequently.

Yea, but you'd think eventually the skiddies would catch on and learn one of the most basic lessons of IP addressing. Or that the script authors would treat 127.0.0.1 as a special case the way the Solaris devs disabled 'rm -rf /'.
The first two pages of this thread are priceless.

I like the last two pages, myself.
To what degree is considered "creating your own tools?"
Everyone uses things that someone else created, and just because some btard can create his own scripts (of any complexity) doesn't make him a *cker.

Also, a must read for you geeks:
Hackers and Painters.

"Hacker" has a wide array of definitions, one of which would make me a hacker for modifying my toaster ]:

No, one of which would make you a hacker for modifying your toaster :]

srsly though, hacker is a term of respect that you cannot apply to yourself, and shouldn't be applied to crackers and skiddies.

LOL, HE SAID ARRAY!!!@@@
I dont get it. neutral

Maybe it's a very funny way of saying "Must be at least this competent to ride"?
