why do those damn hackers do something with there there skill like make good protection for computers and get paid like god damn it

When I think of the question I think of two kinds of hackers

The stupid ones that think they are cool by stealing people stuff online because they know a few letters that can affect a system.

and,

The smart ones that actually use the hacking skill in govermental work. These guys are the ones that hack into lets say...files that belong to a terrorist.

Most of us "internet peoplez think of the first one because we play online games on the computer and hackers tend to appear in video games to ruin everyone elses fun and gain benifits for themselves. evil These are the hackers I hate and wish they are in prison forever.

The goverment hackers I respect because use it for a good cause.

Its like a yin-yang moment if you kinda think about it wink

I am going to refrain from flaming you.

There are many more kinds of "hackers" than the two types you just mentioned.
If "hackers" (using the term loosely, here.) release a program. It's usually going to be open source.
That's the point of why they're hackers, as monostel posted the hackers ethic. Information should be free, is what they believe.
Do tell, has anyone in this thread read Hack Heaven? surprised

Or the tell all "Is Your Son a Computer Hacker?".

Hacker is a negative term, nerds like to think it isn't though.

EDIT: In retrospect, I would like a better term for those weirdos.

Computer Meanies maybe?

I'm pretty sure "nerds" are the guys who know what the hell they are talking about, unlike you.

Great, I bet you would also like a better term than "gaiafag".

Oh noez, the big bad hacker is out to get you! =O

"Crackers" or "script kiddies" or "wannabe" are the appropriate terms for self-proclaimed "hackers." They're attention-starved children who want nothing more than to wreak havoc and proclaim, "WORSHIP ME, I'M COOL CUZ I USE CAPS LOCK AND 1337 5P34K!" when, in reality, they're actually pretty dumb and couldn't hack their way out of a cardboard box without tools that someone else wrote.

"Hacker" is a title bestowed upon one who has earned the recognition among his peers.

(A wet cardboard box at that.)

Hackers are the people who keep innovations coming, since they render the current creations of the industries obsolete. They're also the people who work in the industry who find new and amazing ways to do things that no one else would even consider.

why work hard for something when people will give you there passwords for free?

Because people have there whole lives on computers and their electronics. Heartless people take there time and entertainment, money and hard work for no reason.

I was hacked and someone stole my passwords to everything; my e-mails accounts my bank accounts my gaia account and my writing accounts. They stole me whole life and my music and printed it as their own. It take a b*****d of a person to make them spend thousands of dollars to get it all back.

I hear both "gaiafag" and "furfag" with about equal distribution with respect to Gaia. It really kind of annoys me since many of us are not furries. I'm certainly not, and if I owned any pets I wouldn't let them anywhere near Rydain. =P

Hey, sometimes I'm scared to let grey near me!

And damn, I'm getting tired of that troll.
You guys get too worked up about this s**t.

Hackers get hired by the government and companies all the time, but they have to really know their s**t. No 13 year old skiddie is going to land a job making major money.

Pow and he hits the nail right on. The more profesional term is security specialist or as my major says information security and assurance. These people get hired by government and private agencies all the time to protect systems from said "Hackers". This word is constantly missused on a daily basis though. A real hacker is a modders. Someone who hacks things together to create new things. Some times these hacks are created to make certain task simple and others are created just for the heck of it. Over all this thread sucks and reading all these nonsense replies is giving me a headache.

Dude you got cyber raped if someone did that to you. It must have been someone you know to in order for them to know what to look for. In those cases that is industrial espionage and this has been happening way before computers existed. It doesn't take a hacker to know how to get the right information from you.
Wow, the OP is incredibly misinformed. Hacker is definitely not a negative term. I would say it is a positive term that is ethically neutral. If you call someone a hacker or if someone is hacking that means they are doing something clever to solve a problem, usually something that improves efficiency or is just a cool way to do something (whether it is bad or good). Hackers existed before computers, I'm not sure about the word itself but the type of people it describes did. If you had to walk to work every day and it was a 3 mile walk because the bridge was down river and you had to walk back up river to get to where you wanted then one day while you are late to work you decide to grab a rope, tie it to a high up tree branch and swing across, that would be an example of a "hack", you just circumvented two miles of your walk! If you are in a small theater and someone tells you to walk through the isles and count how many seats there are in the theater but instead you climb up on stage and notice there are 19 rows, the first one has 16 seats and they increase by 2 seats each row and you think "(16+(16+(19-1)*2))*(19/2)" then you just committed a "hack"!
