Hey, Q&A's been filled with threads about the issue, too. I guess I don't have the lightning-fast speed of the younger crowd, so I had to actually try to get the message yesterday.

After I got it to show up, I waited about a minute and a half before trying to click anywhere else, and sure enough, only got the warning again. So I went to my browser options (I use Firefox, by the way) and cleared my cache, cookies and browser history. Clearing the cookies does log you out, but I logged right back in and haven't seen the warning since.

I'd seen a few people say that just clearing the cache and cookies didn't help, so the browsing history seems to have something to do with it.

Hope that helps. ^_~

*Facepalms*

I've been locked out for thirty hours and you seriously think I haven't tried clearing browsing history? If it was as simple as deleting my cache and cookies then I wouldn't be here complaining.

This "Slowing Down" glitch is really slowing me down. I'm new here on Gaia, so I thought it was just like the 3 days before getting the trading pass. I couldn't post my "About Me"nor set my profile and comments to public. I could change whether my profile was to be Classic or Current, but I couldn't put in a profile layout even each time I pick another option in the Theme Override. Someone told me that it is a new Gaia Policy to slow down hackers, so I went with that idea. But yeah. I hope this helped, but if you need more information about this from my experience, feel free to do so. I just hope this will be fixed soon, thank you!

I can't make it... Without your help...

Well you can add my thread to the list eek

I'm working on a banner image (work in progress in my sig), which will eventually be animated. Permission to link it back to this thread?

My trading pass has been disabled. Sad face.

If it were just that, my account wouldn't still be stuck in Critical error.

It feels that my account, Bro Dude Sir, is as good as banned since apparently I go through pages too fast. I even get THIS account CRITICAL ERROR'd from moving page to page. The first time I ever got the warning was about three days ago. It has been a constant waiting hours and getting back my account only to spend more time waiting than playing. Lately, I've been trying to buy stuff for my Gaia House. Lately, it has been taking forever. I've tried clearing cookies, restarting my laptop, turning off all programs that I can turn off without crashing, and waiting fifteen seconds every page.

I really encourage the idea of a CAPTCHA.

Edit:
It doesn't matter where I am: If I load to boards, slow down, if I load to marketplace/shops, slow down, if I load to towns, slow down.

ALSO, THE ONLY WAY TO BYPASS THIS IS TO LOG OUT, GO TO TOWNS, LOG IN ONLY TO TOWNS, AND YOU CAN DO NOTHING ELSE BUT TOWNS OR YOU WILL BE STOPPED BY THE SLOW DOWN MESSAGE.

The character to the left if me when role-playing.

So not only is my main character now blocked out, but my mule, Lowrnhart, has also been blocked!

That makes two avatars I can't even access now.

I dont have a url, nor have I had the problem today. But there are times after having JUST logged in and go to Site Feedback, find a thread I am interested in adn then try to make post - and get blocked. This after having been on only about 5 minutes and not having done much in the way of activity. USUALLY I encounter this around 5 - 6 am eastern time hours (2 - 3 Pacific). I am on DSL too by the way. Though not everyone is on fast speed either.
Anyway, I did encounter this the other day after having been on a little while going through the threads in SF. I got blocked maybe 5 minutes or less? Still...
There had been a couple of occasions in the past (several months now) where I had been locked out all day long

I am thinking that maybe part of the problem is that there might be a backsignal somewhere when too many people are doing the same thing at once? Had that encounterment many years ago on AOL when they had a problem.
Also there are people who are either on the same ISP as other members or are networking? I dunno if this causes a problem too.
All I know is that not every body uses the f5 button.

War has ended, all is done. Anger ebbs, peace has come. One prevails, the other naught. No joy from this, all distraught. Both sides merging... amidst it all
A final lesson learned...
A quiet truce... at last...

I was in the Marketplace.

This was the message I got:
Slow Down!

Slow down, hotshot! You've been loading pages too fast, and our system doesn't like it. Take a break for a few minutes so we can catch up!

This is not a ban, but repeated offenses can result in a permanent ban if the system determines you are not human. For more information about botting, please read the botting section on the Rules & Guidelines page

I'm definitely not a bot!

You can also do rally's and other stuff but will not let you back into your account in less help is achieved or you wait it out.

I've gotten the slowdown error 4 times yesterday (sunday) while vending on the mp. Don't remember the first time, but the last time was about 12:40ish. That time I wasn't even going that fast. You can tell I'm not a bot because I was clicking on different things in the mp and buying items. It kept me logged out for quite a while, more than a half hour at least. It did it to me a few days ago too (not sure how many)

My boyfriend has been getting the same "critical error" message while browsing the art arenas. It's been happening to him for 3 or so days now if memory serves.

The exact message was:
Slow Down!

It won't even let me log out and switch accounts. It worked earlier today, but now it's stopped being effective. The only way to switch accounts is to switch browsers and if I try to log into this account it'll lock up gaia on that browser as well.

Sorry I have no urls to give you. This happened earlier today and I didn't know we has a thread for it. Thank a bunch though for being so on top of things in trying to fix it. We really appreciate it.

# let me know when the first time (date and time of day) you experienced the issue (please be exact as you can)

I can't remember the exact date but it was about 2-3 weeks ago or so when I saw the first one.
I've had it happen at least 4 times now the last being Friday Aug 7 sometime close to 11:00 pm PDT.

# were you on a specific part of the site or does it seem to happen everywhere?
For me it always happens in the marketplace when I'm trying to buy bugs or inks. As I'm questing I buy a large amount of them and most are only sold in singles so I have to click a lot to buy.

Questing any inks or bugs thanks to those that donate! heart

This has been happening to me for quite a while now, this is just the first time I have decided to post about it. 90% of the time, it happens while I'm changing outfits & trying on styles in the 'changing room'. Just happened a few minutes ago too when my daughter (also a Gaian) asked to see some looks I could make. I'm a bit hyper, read fast, and make my decisions fairly quickly on simple matters like if I like the look of an item/look. There are several people in my household (wife/kids) who also use Gaia, but luckily, haven't been locked out when I have. Probably because we all tend to use differing computers. Other places that I have been locked out at/on: Marketplace/Shops, mostly dealing with dressing the avi for looks, etc. Happened a few places, but I tend to break up navigating my Gaia on 2-7 tabs, I tend to delve into several topics, example: shopping, booty grabs, chatting, forum browsing, games, all at once. Yes, I'm also listening to an outside music channel, browsing the web & conversing with friends at these times too. If it's an issue about gold botting (like back when Gaia was new), can you give an option to disable the surfing for gold?

...And in my past life, I'm dead

This had happen to me 3-4 times yesterday and today (9-10th)
The only time this has been happening to me is when I was doing lots of search and browsing in the marketplace but I believe it can happen on any part of the site if you're moving through pages or refreshing excessively.
I was only locked out for 3-8 minutes each time.

I've only seen it in the marketplace. I think I might of had it in the forums one time. It seems that it happening more for people to play the marketplace and load/refresh the pages a lot. What the most annoying part for me is that sometimes it will be 30mins before popping up on my screen or it could be 15mins. Sometimes it will log me out for 5mins to 30mins as well, but it depends.

As for the time of day I think it's happens the most for me in the afternoon, as for that is when I'm on gaia and playing the market the most.

Cere's Quest Tickets! Starfishes!
I think I'm one of the few people for whom the hot-shot pages are working correctly for...

But all information is information right?

I buy loads of cheap items and sellback to stores for like 2/3gg profit per item... sure it's slow but it kills time. I tend to open a new tab for every item in the store I've bought something from , just in case they're a COMPLETE numpty and have everything else below the sellback price also. After about 10 minutes of this I tend to get the hotshot page, but, it's only for about a maximum of 15 minutes before I can go back to it.

I agree with everyone about the suggestions for replacing it with a captha 3nodding
