Please report any login-related BUGS you find -- we are upgrading some things and I want to try to track what's been fixed and what's left to fix
(one post per issue).
If your account was banned or blocked, that's not a bug (you can find other threads and the contact us link at the bottom of the page for those issues).

Known Bugs:

• Login onto the main site doesn't work from PSP, PS3, Nintendo DS, Palm Phones (error message is "please enter your password"; been happening for over 6 weeks)
  
• "Remember Me" doesn't work (we're attempting to fix this in the next few days)
  
• "Slow Down Buddy" as soon as I log in which prevents me from doing anything (usually due to a buggy Skype browser extension)
  
• iPhone (Safari mobile) is unable to login to the main site from the header (the form field still says "username" after I click on it; began when the login form went purple)

update October 21:
The "remember me" issues should be fixed as-of Monday morning. If you have any further problems with that, please post about it.

I'm releasing a code patch either tomorrow (Thurs) or next Tuesday. This patch should address the "browser doesn't show me my usernames when I click on the username field", "please enter your password", and "login doesn't work with JavaScript disabled" problems on FF2+ and IE7+. This patch will not likely fix any of the PSP/PS3/DS login problems but please post if it does fix it.

Explanation of patch:
When the login form was changes last week (to allow users to opt to login with their Facebook accounts) we removed the Labels for "username" and "password" and instead pre-filled the forms. Now they use background images to show those words. This means that we don't have to pre-fill the username field which will allow your browser to match your stored username as you type it (which seems to be what most users are familiar with).

This isn't a bug per se, but it relates to the "Remember Me" option. "Remember Me" still works on my end, but I no longer have the option of the drop-down list of accounts I use. For instance, before the new log-in panel I could click the user name box and all of my accounts would be visible. However, now I have to type "K" to get "Kabuki Kyoshiro" to appear. My password is still programed in.

I believe that's a browser-side feature.
If we changed the "name" of the input field or if your browser's history was cleared that could happen.

The history hasn't been cleared anytime recently, so that rules that out. Could you explain the name changing and browser-side feature things, please?

Lately, when I've gone to login, I've always failed the first time. I KNOW I'm typing in my password correctly, going as far as staring at the keyboard and typing in each individual character.

I use Firefox and like you said, I usually just pressed enter instead of clicking. But I do press enter the second time and it works.

EDIT: I clicked instead and I logged in first try...I guess that was why...or I was lucky sweatdrop

I have also been having great difficulty in logging into my account for quiet a few weeks.
I cannot log in from the front sign in page,though I slowly type in all the info that I need to, and no luck.
Also I cannot link gaia to my facebook account...

I've just noticed that for the past few times logging in, it immediately goes to a blank white page (http://login.gaiaonline.com/gaia/login.php) and Firefox will show a prompt saying "Resend" or "Cancel". After pressing "Resend" it'll login correctly (http://www.gaiaonline.com/?login_success=1).

I always check "Remember Me" (in vain) in case that's related to it.

I occasionally get this, too. Sometimes I think it's just my clumsy fingers, but other times...
I've been trying to reproduce it, but haven't had much luck yet.

I'm currently running the most recent versions of Firefox/Flash on a Vista and XP computer.

I don't know if this is related, but sometimes when trying to go to the Gaia homepage, I get stuck in a redirect loop (I think?) as the site tries to load the homepage, the login page, and then goes back to try and load the homepage again and eventually Firefox just stops the site loading altogether. It suggests the problem may be with accepting site cookies, but I have those enabled to be accepted by default. I can't remember the precise error message that I get when it happens, but the only thing I've found that fixes it is closing the browser tab and trying again in a new one, or following a link to a pre-existing Gaia thread and then loading the login page from there.

I've been getting the login issue for the last week or so. I didn't notice it today but I'll watch for it tomorrow.


I know this next part doesn't go here, but I felt you might like to know anyway:
I know that my iPhone logs in fine, but for whatever reason when I use the main site instead of the mobile site I immediately get a flash error on MyGaia even when there's no flash loaded... maybe it's an Ad causing a problem? Might it be possible for the website to detect that the safari browser i'm using is the iPhone version and to disable all flash ads?

It's because of the filled in bits, where it says username / password in grey. Click in the password box to clear it, and then click back in the username box, and the dropdown should appear -- at least, that's how it works in my browser.


@Carbonphyber: I think this particular browser not-exactly-a-bug could be fixed by not having the prefilled boxes, and using visible labels instead. Choice of your design guys, of course.

The prefilled boxes do screw up the internal browser remember password thingy.

But I've noticed if javascript is disabled you can't log in. No warning or anything, just a "incorrect login information". This has been going on for a few weeks+ now, in the past you could still login fine.

I'm not sure that the remember me problem is a browser issue. I use Safari on Mac Leopard OS 10.5.8 and I have that problem too. Autofill doesn't work for me. I cleared my cache, my history, cookies... basically everything I could clear and when I enter my log in info it doesn't prompt me to save my details. I've tried it on other sites and I get the prompt. I wouldn't mind so much if remember me worked but it doesn't. I have to re-enter my log in info every time I want to log in to Gaia, which is many times a day. ;~;

I have tried remember me and autofill on firefox and it works so at first I thought it was a safari issue. But other people seem to be experiencing the same issue so I'm starting to wonder if it's a problem on gaia's side of things. :/ I really don't feel like switching to firefox as my main browser. I enjoy using safari. ><

Someone showed me this thread. I'm so glad you made it. I made This thread about my log-in problem.

The worse problem with that, is if I try to use them and they auto-fill the username and password, these no longer are successful. I get the failed log in message again that says it's possibly a wrong username or password. Which of course it can't be wrong. I've used them for a year and a half now with no problem before the new Facebook log-in.

I also found that while being very careful to clear the username and password sections even if they have something there or not, then pasting my username and password, I can be successful to a certain degree. But LIKE TODAY, it failed the first time too. I had to do it twice today. I'm wondering if those shadow words you have there now are causing the problem. Because I notice that when I use the auto-fill option, the shadow words "username" and "password" do not disappear. And that's why I have to "clear" the spaces first. Though, as I've just said, clearing the spaces first doesn't always work for a successful log-iin.

I use Windows XP with Firefox 3.0 browser
