Report details

Gaia page: Compose PM (even though I've run into this ad on other places as well)
Date / Time: August 8, 2008, 14:55 AM (PST)
Reason for reporting: The ad takes forever to download, and the computer stalls. Most times I see this ad, after the freeze I get an error message that the flash script is slowing down my computer, and the option to stop this script. Stoping the script unfreezes the computer.
Geographic information: Palo Alto, California, USA.
OS, browser: Windows XP pro (all the latest updates), IE7 (7.0.5730.11), I check regularly for flash updates as well.

Could you please post a "how to" for Opera internet explorer?

I use FF3 and both IE 6 and 7, but I have ad blockers installed with all of them, so I can't report ads using those. I can, however, report ads when using Opera 9.5 on my laptop, which has a built-in content (ad) blocker. (I don't believe versions prior to 9 had the feature, however.) It's also a browser you might want to consider adding to the how-to list. wink It's really easy, too:

Right click anywhere on a page (so long as it's not an object like an image, flash, movie, or whatever) to bring up the typical right click menu. Toward the bottom of that menu is Block Content (or something to that effect). When you bring that up, it greys out all the stuff on the page that can't be blocked, leaving only the stuff that can be (images, flash, etc.), and you can select the elements you want blocked. Selecting/Unselecting multiple elements can be done with the usual shift+click.

Anyway. On with the offending "ad", which is from crackle.com. Who it's served through, I don't know, but I got the impression that's not important.

Time ad was encountered: approx 1:30 am PST





This obviously plays hell on load times with just about any connection speed and computers that aren't so new. It's only saving grace is the sound is only on when the mouse cursor is hovering on it.

I wasn't sure where to post this, since it's not an issue with anything that's inappropriate, but rather it's in the way. I block ads so I can't see it, though I knew it was a problem with an ad because I checked on a friend's laptop.

The ad on the Trade Log/Start Page, is either too large, or someone messed up some coding somewhere, because it's getting in the way! (It also slows down the loading of the page!)

The "Username" title and part of the box I type in, is missing. When I do type in it, the beginning of any name I type, cannot be seen. This is annoying as all heck. I can't even see my cursor when I click in the box! It's not just me either, as the same thing was happening on my friend's laptop, and she doesn't block ads.

Please... you have more than enough blasted ads on this site, as it were... Get them off our trade log page, and our inventories!
