i keep getting the pm sign poping up and there is no new mail?

my gold keeps going up and down every time i go in or out of a forum
for e.g go in chatterbox 6504 go on theard 6666 come out of thread 6450
so i dont no the how much gold i really have
please may you tell me why this is happening?
