The old legends tell of the Origin of the Demons, and many sorted tales of their beginnings and the early gods that played various parts in their beliefs.
Here collectively is the gathered knowledge of those that came before and have walked this land with demons.

Nearly 3 years have passed since They Who Summoned mysteriously vanished to unknown fates.
Time passes differently in the demon land known as the Inbetween, and its been nearly 90 years of darkness and chaos there and a bloody and powerful battle rages on.

New legends have been born, new heroes have risen from the magic drenched ashes of the past,
and the veterans that have survived the ravages of battle and time have all new stories to tell....

The First Legend
The Origin of Winiko

Long ago, when the land was new and the sky was young, the great Earth Mother created her children. They were vastly diverse, creatures great and small. They were born of the sun, and thrived on rich bountiful lands. All were equals, all had their rightful place within the delicate balance.

Earth Mother was pleased with her children, and loved them all. Most cherished and faithful was the great white lion Ranthor, her soulbound companion from the very beginning of existence. Since time forgotten the handsome creature stood by her side. Where she was the light and the love that guided, he was the protector and guardian of the land.

Eventually, as all legends and stories go, events were to take a grievous turn for the worst. The creatures that Earth Mother had made the most alike to herself - humans - were slowly learning that they could go against the wishes and dreams of their great mother, against the glowing Sun Watcher, and do as they pleased. Ranthor was kept busy day and night, saving the creatures of the land from the humans and their folly.

The beings had learned fire, and set the lands about them to scorching ruins. They had learned how to procreate, and were springing up all over. And one amongst them, Chief Wintak, learned of a jealousy so great, he grew to hate Ranthor. Why should that huge white lion get the honored place next to Earth Mother as guardian of a land that obviously belonged to humans most??

With the changing of the balance of the mother's creations came a changing of the land as well. The endless fields saw gusting winds, the rivers roiled in waves and the mountains became coated in glistening white snow. The changes were not all bad, as they became more and more extreme the mother was not pleased.

Ranthor sat on his icey mountain throne, side by side with Great Mother and Sun Watcher, and all the other gods of the time. They debated long on what to do; how to fix what had gone wrong so quickly. At this meeting, the chief Wintak suddenly appeared, having climbed fervently to find them. With a sudden attack and a great sharpened stick he had long worked on, he brutally stabbed Ranthor. Brilliant red splattered the pure crystal snow. Great Mother cried out, others watched dumbstruck as she flung herself upon her dearest friend and wept.

It was time, all decided, that they leave the land. Sun Watcher would flee to the sky, warming the land each day, then turning his back to them each night. Pale Moon fled too, but not so far, so she could watch the mother's children at night when Sun grew weary of them. The others left completely, or went into hiding to guide from a safe place. If the mighty Ranthor could fall, it stood to reason they all could.

As for the beautiful lion, he died in the snow. He was not cold, for the Earth Mother was with him. His spirit shone brightly as he rose to the heavens and took his place. He twinkled and shone brightest, always to the north to guide the wayward children below.

With that ending alone, Earth Mother was not satisfied. Summoning all her creative power, she focused it upon Ranthor's great white body. In a blinding rage she brought his body back to life, transformed into that of a shining demon with huge bear claws, sharp horns, and the mane of Ranthor so all would be reminded of his gentle beauty. The demon was bound by hate to the chief Wintak, but it had no soul.

Forever after, the cunning and hateful demon was known as Wintak-iko Nah: bloodbound demon of Chief Wintak. It followed him everywhere. No matter how far he ran, how hard he tried, the creature's blessing of second-sight made Wintak easy to find. It served as a constant reminder of the death of an innocent out of hate and jealousy. It craved blood and wished of nothing else but to kill the stupid being it was bound to... but if it were to kill the man, it too would die with no soul left to bind it to earth. In a perverse sort of back fire, Earth Mother's curse also became Earth Mother's guardian blessing. As Ranthor had forever watched over her, so the demon watched over Wintak.

The curse of the Winiko became legend among man, passed down from generation to generation. Soon it was forgotten completely. But the great great great granddaughter of Chief Wintak remembers. Oh yes. For when her relative died, he left his blood line one secret. One secret as he died with a demon-destroyed soul.

Anyone can summon a Winiko.

It is unclear how the Great War was actually started, it is believed that there was always extreme strife and barely contained loathing between the demon races. The factions of the great war seemed to have been divided with the differing species.

It is believed that the defining moment was when Gaians carelessly discovered ways to summon Wraik into their Earth realm. What started as objection and hate quickly escalated into rebellion and murder. Where Winiko had a special balance and learned to thrive on a bond with a human, Wraik fought the "shackles" of binding tooth and nail. They saw Winiko as weak, inferior to be consorting with humans, and lashed out at them and the bonded.
They tried to kill humans to release all demons of the bonds ( not caring if it mentally or physically destroyed weaker demons for the "good of their kind".. )

Winiko, though somewhat malicious and dangerous themselves, also harbor a deep loyalty to the beings they are bound to. They fought to protect themselves and their families and friends. Darkness took hold of all the demons, and a fog seemed to fill this land and theirs. Through dark twisted magic, and surging power, the Wraik found sinister ways of forcing demons back to the Inbetween, loosening or destroying bonds, killing those that opposed. Demons and humans alike seemed to disappear; some purposefully charging to heroic war, others melting into shadows or taking cover to avoid a worse fate.

Once peaceful in its eternal twilight, the Inbetween was shattered as more and more joined the opposing sides of a pointless struggle. Winds raged, water crashed upon the shores and careened through the valleys manipulated by summoned forces. Fearsome earth attacks rent the land, fracturing the channels the ley lines traveled, causing the energy all demons draw on to weaken. Raw energy seeped from the wounds of the earth, yet demon kind found itself weakening. The more powerful the attacks in the Inbetween, the harder it became for demons to travel between realms to their bonds as well. Those that were left, saw the war weakening...but at the cost of the demise of their entire race looming close in the shadows.

Those that spun tales of the war said all was lost, that the Earthmother and Sunwatcher, all the gods had truly turned their backs in disgust. It was said they wept for the destruction of their beautiful creations.

It was said a single tear, crystaline and bright, fell directly upon a broken ley line as a shooting star falling in a blaze from the dark and swirling evening sky.

In this time of darkness and bloodshed, when all hope was surely lost...a tiny pure sparkling light flickered into existence. It floated aimlessly at first, then with more purpose, gathering ambient power as it went. Little is known of the species of demon now called Meiko, even other kin do not fully know what they are exactly. Somehow, through their gathering power, they were able to renew a link to the Earthrealm and seek out they that summon. With a pure and peaceful grace, one became many. Carefully weaving the threads of wayward energy, they slowly started to bridge gaps in the powerful lines. The fog gradually thinned, and many that had become entwined started to find their way out of the darkness that had engulfed the Inbetween.

It is believed that the war is ending, and the limping survivors may now have a new hope on the horizon to save them all. The lost are being found, the shattered are reunited, heros praised and honred, the dead mourned...and if they can learn to co exist and foster the bonds once more, there may be hope for new demons and generations to come...

..:Concerning Demons:..

Demons vary in size, but babies are generally about the size of a medium to large dog, and the adults are similar in size to pony. Elders can be as large and lithe as a heavy male lion, sometimes ranging all the way to horse-like stature.

They can speak with a physical voice, and between their own kind can communicate telepathically as well. Their third eye enables them to "see" through their bonded's eyes and determine where they are/connect to them. They can use their line energy to summon themselves to their bonded as long as they can establish a connection of location.

..:Stages:..

Demons are summoned and bound to a Gaian through a strong ancient magic involving an amulet and the blood of the summoner.

After a few days, (random amount of time usually) the amulet bursts into ash and nothingness, and a small demon child appears. The baby stage lasts for a week to several weeks.

The next stage is the adult demon, which most demons will stay most of their lives.

Elders - Occasionally elders happen on a random basis through hard work and application process, usually available to people that work a lot with their characters in guild or shop. It is the largest and most powerful stage.

Death- Some demons die, though most are ageless and seem immortal. But there are those that can tell you, demons can die, and their spirits often linger and are NOT happy about said death...

..:About Winiko:..
Winiko are believed to be the direct result of the Earth Mother Legend describing a curse placed upon early mankind. They are cunning, agile, fearless demons and posses an inherent ability to harness ley line energy to perform demon magic. They have as vast a variety of personalities and differences of appearance as humans. They are summoned through a blood bond by a magic infused amulet made of sacred components. They generally have a strong distaste for their human bond, but also are compelled by a deep loyalty to protect the little meatbags to preserve the bond that lets them move freely between realms.

..:About Wraik:..
Wraik are a much more slight of build and wiry in nature Demon. They were once completely feral, none of them having been summoned into the Earth realm before. But several years ago, unwittingly stupid humans made the mistake of creating darker magic amulets that were able to summon these much more wild and aggressive demons. Wraik have a severe dislike for humans, and the Winiko that often protect them, feeling its a weakness to be bonded with one. Most of them would prefer to stay wholly in their Inbetween realm even though it has been corrupted by the ongoing wars.

Often Wraik practice much darker, taboo forms of magic and witchery, and do not feel any loyalty to their bonded humans. They have even in some cases found ways to loosen/weaken the bonds that tie them to humans, even at the cost of their own sanity or lives. They are often loathed and avoided by Winiko demons.
No one has seen offspring of the Wraik , or even a couple that would WANT offspring O_o They are believed to be infertile and a dying breed, but more research is being done by demon experts. They are very adept at Summoning rituals though, and can summon more of their kind in the nontraditional breeding ceremonies.

..:About Meik:..
A new legend has formed around the small fluffy floating demons that appeared in the latest stages of the nearly demon-ending wars. It is said they were formed from the very tears of the gods, falling into the shattered ley lines and bringing peace and balance to the land. The little creatures can harnes ambient energy in ways no regular demon has been capable of, and they are absolutely neutral in their action. They are still mysterious, but are summoned much like any other demon, though much rarer and more powerful than any known.

Meiko are helping rebuild the war-torn and ragged demon population through their ability to harness the ambient energy leaked from shattered lines. They can focus this energy to help the nearly infertile and powerless other races breed/ reproduce, and a Meiko's blessing is required for any matings/breedings. Their potent magic fuels summoning breedings as well, and they are now helping gather and bind energy to familiars to help other Winiko and Wraik recuperate.

ONE pet win per person per sale/event/auction unless otherwise stated at all times.
Follow the rules posted per event, and Gaia TOS at all times.
You CAN claim a pet for another person as long as its pre-arranged (proxy bidder/buyer) and they meet criteria at time of sale.
You can claim/win one for you and be a proxy too.
No co-owning unless its a twin/double pet situation.
You can wait to name your pet until after its summoned (after amulet stage) if you like to see it before naming.
* Pets that are not named by child stage, or never named after a win at any other stage, are forfeit back to the shop after 1 month ( 30 days) of nameless status.
* Pets won/purchased in adult or elder stage are in their FINAL stage unless otherwise promised at time of auction, or an additional item is purchased and appropriately applied at a later date. ( IE: Won a special edition adult they are sold as is-it will not become an elder unless an item is used or some other RP/achievement is met.)
WAIT for winners to be posted before claiming pet/sending trades. Trades go to MULE: Winiko. If trades are not received in 48 hours you could forfeit pet.
Post in CERTING thread in Guild or PM Winiko with names, any other info related to shop pets.
* Pets sold as an amulet will have a child stage and adult stage. Pets sold as child will have the adult stage. There are elder stages in this shop but they are not part of the guaranteed stages of the pet, and are optionally earned as staff see fit.

Bids may contain items/ letters, etc value over 100k, gold, combination. ( please don't add items to bids unless auction has gone over 100k)

Do not say you are out of an auction then retaliate. If you want to find more things to bid with, that's fine, but don't state you are done bidding when you are possibly going to keep bidding.

Go ahead and RP as much as you like, in shop or we have the Guild for extended rp as well!
Rp is NOT mandatory but it can have perks and people that participate may be favored in story/rp events.
Follow proper etiquette and behave or I will kick you out.
Once you summon a demon they can go wherever you go.
Winiko can travel by 'shifting' out of our reality into the Inbetween, and can also sort of summon themselves to where they need to be.
Demons CAN talk, they are intelligent (mostly), and don't necessarily like you, or other demons, or... anything at all.
Winiko can be male or female, check the cert if you are unsure.
Same gender relationships are ok, but they may have more limited breeding options, see breeding for details.
Demons would consider an inbreeding relationship taboo and probably ostracize participants.
Demons don't have to mate for life, or even be 'mated' to breed, and are pretty much free to do as they please.
The second sight that the demons have allows them to 'see' into the Inbetween as well and see through their bond, and track them as needed.

You may only use one growth charm at a time per demon. Only ONE familiar per demon unless a soulspring is used

Your order will be processed as soon as a colorist/artist is available to take care of it. Do not whine or bother us about edits. Status will be marked somehow in the to do list.

If you would like to gift an item to a friend, trade it, or resell it, please notify the WINIKO MULE of the transaction so it can be adjusted in our shop inventory. Thanks!

Recently summons and or growings!

Creating new Winiko from existing demons was always a difficult and touchy matter,
and with all the chaos and magic/power usage happening in their land,
Demon breeding has only gotten trickier...

.:Traditional Breeding:.
Winiko and Wraik do have the physical 'parts' required to create genetic offspring,
but over time and with prolonged exposure to the demon land of the Inbetween, and high level unstable dark magic, it is believed they may have become somewhat infertile.
- This breeding type usually requires a Meiko's blessing of power to be successful.
- This breeding type requires a male and a female demon of the same species, as well as the meiko of any gender.
- The shop has Meik that assist with infusing power to the amulet creation and will be available at times to assist in breedings.
- You do not have to own both, only the owner of the female needs to post, but they must have the approval posted in thread of the owner of the male (or the male owner can pm Winiko.)
- Female winiko have one - two babies normally. Rarely 3 can happen.
- They will be expecting for an unknown length of time and have a bundle stage gen 2 baby.
- You must decide amongst yourselves who keeps the baby(s), if neither wants it, it will be placed up for adoption by you or the shop.
- This style of breeding passes on genetic traits like color, mutations, personality etc. Directly from the genetic pool of both parents.
- The offspring will be whatever the next generation is from the highest parent (ex. gen 1 mom gen 2 dad = gen 3 baby)

.:Summoned Breeding:.
In this not so traditional event, two Winiko of any gender may join in a sacred summoning ritual with a Meiko that will bring forth more demons.
- Winiko involved may be adults OR Elders ( updated)
- Anywhere from 2 - 5 amulets could result.
- They are NOT based on genetics, they could be very different from parents, but may be influenced by them, or the Meiko blessing the event with power.
- Demons summoned by other demons will be gen 1.
- They are more likely to have bright colors, mutations, variations and crazyness.
- The more demons involved, the stronger the summoning.
- Babies must be divided among the participating Demon's owners as they see fit, or they can request the shop to chose or adopt out.
- All owners must post or pm approval but only one needs to post the form.


DO NOT POST BREEDING REQUESTS UNLESS A BREEDING SLOT IS OPEN.
You do not have to have your winiko bred by the same person that colored it.
Prices vary per opening, please see specifics on how to get a particular spot.
Make sure your breeding meets ALL the requirements listed at the time of the opening.
We do accept combinations of gold and donation letter/items unless otherwise noted.

Trades for customs will be expected to be sent as soon as you are verified in one of the open spots on the list.
The trade will be completed when the artist finishes and posts your pet. All custom proceeds go right to the colorist who did them and the staff that help make Winiko great!

Q. New Certs?
A. Yes. All new, though veterans get their old ID's (modified with a V in front), and even spiffy titles. See the Veteran section if you are a previous owner!
Pets still displayed on old certs ( purposefully or due to inactivity from owner) are considered lost to the wars until proven otherwise.

Q. What about my items & familiars from the old shop?
A. You can claim your old familiars, if you can help us find them! Go Here for inventory reconciliation. Items are being completely wiped clean but we are compensating!

Q. I was owed a _______ in Sully's old "To-Do" list, do I still get it?
A. Unfortunately that is also being wiped clean so Sully can have a fresh start, but if you need your situation reviewed because you have a grievance of some kind, please PM the mule or Sullivan directly about the old owed thing for reconciliation.

Q. Who is in charge around here anyway??
A. George! Sullivan just thinks he runs it, Lural is the only one that actually knows whats going on, and Einna hasn't got a clue but really tries to be helpful too!

Q. Hey, "_____" is staff, can they enter events?
A. If the staff member had no direct responsibility with said event and the making of the pets, then they can enter as long as it is a fair/ random chance style event with no chance of bias from other staff. (IE they can enter raffles, flaffles, random chance/ dice games etc)

Q. Are there Elders?
A. Yes! But, they are reserved for people that work hard to get them or earn them in some way. We may do an application process in the guild for RP folks and people that help develope and push forward the story line and such.

Winiko is looking for part-time/ full-time colorists and/or lineart editors .
We are actively looking for colorist help, especially anyone that can shade and or edit lines.
We do not have templates ( artists can make their own if they wish)
You will need to be able to shade as well as color/design pets.
We can accept part timers, lineart editors, and we may hire someone just to color FLAT pets * We will partner you up with a staff member to shade your things! So please feel free to submit NON shaded works too!

Colorists need to be very open to critique and willing to accept feedback as Sully can be a picky jerk.
