Stuck inside during a particularly harsh snow storm, a family huddles together in front of small fire. Their village lies at the edge of the Wardwood
and while magic had, in the past, faded just like it had everywhere, belief in the Old Ways had never died out. There is warmth and wonder
in the room even as the snow shuts them in. In the hazy light of dusk, as the children become sleepy and the adults gather to speak in hushed
tones, smoke started rising off in the horizon. A fire was burning in the distance. In the orange, almost morbid, light of sunset, it almost seemed
as if the fire was climbing up a tall tower. It could be a trick of the eye, but it reminds the oldest member of the family, Nanna, of a story that
the village once told about village made of dreams, off in the distance, that burned a huge pyre once a generation to honor the Old Ways.

Nanna begins her story as the family serves dinner. The children cling to her every word while they eat. The blank, snowy landscape has made
their world boring. The story speaks of man visiting from far away searching for something he has a lost: a wife, a daughter, a precious family heirloom,
a runaway guardian, a treasure beyond human imagination. There he finds a close-knit village mounting an age-old tradition. There is mystery surrounding
the ritual that the man cannot resist. He stays there and is drawn into the village and its practices. The story always culminates with a parade of
masked revelers lead by a priestess. They sing or chant strange, powerful words and burn the pyre. Sometimes they mean the man ill will, sometimes
he becomes one of them. It is a familiar story: a man seduced by mystery.
But how does this one go? How does it end?

Tell the story of the man and this village and why they burn a huge pyre every generation to win this buck!

Without any chance of going outside, the family continues to huddle around the fire, staying warm together. The children urge Nanna to tell
another story or tell them more about the village with the fire. Nanna laughs and draws her grandchildren closer to her. “Very well,” she says.
Some version of the story tells of a woman, the missing wife, the mother of his child, a seductress of the village, who has captured the man’s heart.
No matter her role in the story, she was always beautiful, something bright, or burning, like summer. The thought of flowers or sun in the winter darkness
brings out sighs of longing. Each member of the family assigns their own version of summer and charm to the beautiful woman in the story.

Through a series of a daily prompts, you will get the chance to follow suit and give this doe a personality and story of her own.

In some versions of the story, there is a daughter, either lost, or found, or born. Whatever her role in the story, when she is in it, she is always
an innocent to be protected or saved. The family gathers the children close and tell them that they are precious too. The sky is dark now, and the
smoke obscures the stars in the distance, but overhead, they still shine bright. It is easy to imagine running around, having fun, playing in a magical
village full of mystery and fire. Despite what sinister turns the story could take, the thought of warmth and play is far more appealing than
staying inside like they have to now.

Create a personality for this little fawn and you’ll have a chance to bring her in from the winter! When she is grown she will have unique edits
that reflect both of her parents’ edits.

twin one twin two

Sometimes, when the intention is to scare, a pair of twins appears in the story, quiet, still, unsettling…
Their origin seems unclear and they never show up in quite the same place every time. One would think that two little girls would be reminiscent
of the daughter and bring, perhaps, the same kind of joy, but these two girls never arrive in the story to create laughter or mirth. As Nanna
adds layers to the story she has told, she mentions, offhand, that there might be twins in the village, the children turn to each other, mirroring
their movements, and try to imagine what it would be like to live with a copy of themselves.

If you and a partner come up with a pair of interesting names, you might win these twins!

“There is always a priestess in the story,” Nanna says to the children. The other adults are listening, indulgently, but this story is clearly for the
children who have not yet learned how to react to boredom. The priestess of the story sometimes plays a large role, sometimes a small one. The
only two constants of her role is that she always leads the ritual and sings or chants. Her example leads the others in the village who join her, raising
their voices the same way smoke rises from a fire.

To win this doe, write the priestess’ song or chant!

Sometimes the other villagers wear masks to the ritual. There are animals of all sorts that attend, some of them hunters, some of them prey.
There is a kind of strange fascination with anonymity that wouldn’t seem to matter in such a close-knit community, but some storytellers include
this detail for some reason or another.

These masked villagers will be given away through a speed flatsale that will take place on December 18th at 10 pm EST.

More instructions will be posted the day of the flatsale!

Sometimes strange details sneak their way into the story. This one seems to feature bees…

Occasionally, a bee-colored familiar or companion will be posted in thread with instructions on how to win it!
