In the beginning there were the heavens and the planets that danced about with radiant stars that littered it. There was a calm and with that calm came emptiness a lack of life. Filled with grief the heavens shed a tear, a lone star and it plummeted down to the earth. When the star struck the earth, it began to change. There was a new magic that danced within the vast fields, forests, oceans and seas. Through the mountains, valleys, canyons and the never ending sky. It was from that magic that the dragons were born. Majestic creatures that came in all shapes and sizes. They came in all temperaments and colors. There were the a group of dragons who chose the light and all the good it possessed and represented. They came to be known as the Metallic dragons due to the colors of their hide which resembled many of the earths metals. Dragons that formed this group are the Brass Dragons, Bronze Dragons, Copper Dragons, Gold Dragons and last but not least the Silver Dragons.

However, to all light their is darkness. This is the simple unspoken law of the universe. There must be balance. So against the dragons that have chosen the light, there are dragons that have chosen the darkness and all of the chaos that it brings. They came to be known as the Chromatic dragons for obvious reasons. Dragons that formed this group are the Black Dragons, Red Dragons, Blue Dragons, Green Dragons and last but not least the White Dragons. For centuries the world was under the dragons law for it was only them and the animals their magic created. However, still there was a silence that lingered and that silence called out the the magic of the lands to correct it. From the same magic that brought forth the dragons, new life was formed. That new life came to be called Elves. True children of the earth and it's magic they were in tune with nature and knew many of the secrets that the dragons knew. Their lives were almost just as long but still their was something missing.

Two centuries after the Elves had come to life, the lands magic brought a new life. They resembled the Elves, though they did not have their fair skin, long ears or knowledge of magic and the secrets of the earth. Nor did they have the long life spans of the great Elves and Dragons. They were flawed and yet so precious. Wisdom for them came with age. Humans were, compared to those who came before them, truly children of the earth. The way they thought, acted, everything. So the Dragons thought it best that they be cared for and watched and in time the humans would prove themselves worthy of knowing the secrets of all the is and will be. Well some dragons.

Centuries came and went, humans proved to be a reckless and violent race. They caused wars over pointless things and one of those wars nearly brought the demise of all three races. However, in the mists of all the chaos, death and bloodshed, there was a flicker of light and it was that light that slowly healed the lands, and the magic that had been abused. That light had come from where the Dragons and elves least expected. It had come from the cause of all of the turmoil. The humans. That is what brought the humans a second chance.

Dragons rule this world, not us, the humans. Instead, every dragon picks a caretaker. To train these humans to care for dragons properly, they started a school named after the world, Dragon's Roost. They picked one of their caretakers, a half human-half drake, Shepherd, to be headmaster of the school. He, in turn, picked numerous other experienced caretakers to teach alongside their Dragon masters.

Caretakers are generally chosen based on genealogy, though there have been cases of humans from non-caretaker families. It is always an honor to be picked as a caretaker, for it shows that the Dragon not only trusts you, but also deems you valuable ergo other dragons can't go around killing you, however, this doesn't keep some from trying. Though I say master and caretaker, the relationship is much more mutual. Perhaps one day soon we will be blessed with the knowledge of the secrets of all that is and all that will be.

Until that time comes however, we have something far more important to worry about. Despite the death that the wars of the past have caused a group of humans, elves and dragons that have been corrupted by the chaotic darkness have formed an alliance and are doing what they can to enslave those who are influenced by the light and rule over the vast lands that are our home.

Now is the time to choose a side. The peaceful light where one can feel safe or the chaotic darkness where you can only trust yourself and you live a life paranoid about those around you. What will you choose?

Shop Rules

  • Read the whole first/second page! Although it's perfectly acceptable to ask questions, a question you have may already be answered somewhere in the first/second page.
  • Do not beg for a pet! Actions such as this will only lower your chances of ever being able to obtain a pet.
  • NO stealing of any of the artwork (this includes banners, graphics, etc.) what-so-ever! Our lineartist worked extremely hard to make all of these lines for Dragons Roost only!
  • You may NOT sell your pets/offspring! You may either give them away to others or keep them.
  • Check the drama at the door, no one wants that kind of stuff here.
  • If you can't say anything nice, don't say it at all.
  • If there is someone bothering you for whatever reason, there are two ways to resolve the issue without causing havoc in the thread. Private message the person, or ignore them. These are two, very simple solutions that take little time. There is no need to lash out at someone in front of other people because that just creates drama.
  • If there happens to be some argumentation within the thread, do not jump in! This just makes things worse, even if you're trying to help. Best thing to do is carry on conversations and role playing.
  • Be respectful towards each other. New or old, it doesn't make you any better than someone else, nor does it exempt you from any of these rules.
  • Don't assume, it just makes an a** out of you and me
  • Do not harass the colorists or managers for any reason! If you have a question for one of them, message them politely.
  • The staff's word is law and must be followed.
  • Real-life commissions have not been put into effect. Please do not ask about this, we will notify the shop if it ever happens.
  • When an event pops up, read the rules, they should answer most of your questions.

Roleplay Rules

  • It is recommended that you use a color for the pets you are role playing with. This prevents confusion if role playing with more than one dragon at a time.
  • If you're doing an open RP within the main thread, please, let others join in! Let's not leave anyone out.
  • Role playing in another language is allowed as long as the other person(s) are able to speak the language also.
  • Non-cosplay dragons can not be role played like a cosplay. This is unfair to those wishing to obtain cosplays/those who have paid a good amount for a cosplay.
  • No god-modding or role playing of another person's pet unless they say otherwise!
  • Do not ask someone if you can co-own their pet. They will come to you if co-owning is something they're considering.
  • Role playing pets from different shops is off-limits! People come here to role play Dragons Roost pets and to possibly get away from other shops. The last thing they want to see are pets being role played from the shops they're trying to avoid.
  • Be sure to discuss personalities, rights, and rules of your pets to other people you role play with. If your Dragon is mated to another Dragon and you've compromised on them staying together permanently, keep it that way!
  • Respect your role playing partners and their feelings.

Custom Rules

  • Every colorist has their own set of rules within their journals, so be sure to read their rules as well as these.
  • Listen to what the colorist has to say. It may be a question or concern that's needed to be heard.
  • Pestering a colorist about a pending custom is not recommended. While some colorists are more tolerant than others, it is still very stressful when people are constantly harassing them. On top of Gaia tasks, they have real-life situations that always come before the internet. So please, be patient.
  • Do not bug colorists about opening slots. They will open them on their own time, not yours.
  • Unless stated otherwise by colorist, haggling about price is unacceptable. Some colorists charge for their edits while some do not. Whatever the case may be, you must respect their decisions.
  • If there is something you're not happy with about the final result of your custom, question the colorist in a polite manner!
  • Most slots are first-come, first-serve. This usually works like a flatsale, where a "GO!" post will be made and requests follow.
  • You must send your custom trade after you have been confirmed your slot. Keep in mind that not all of the colorists will accept them right away, however.

Breeding Rules

  • Eggs from a breeding my be kept or given away, but not sold!
  • Adults are the only ones allowed to breed
  • There is no limit as to how many times your Dragon can breed, but breeding to hoard is not allowed!
  • Do not bug colorists about opening slots. They will open them on their own time, not yours.
  • Most slots are first-come, first-serve. This usually works like a flatsale, where a "GO!" post will be made and requests follow.
  • You must send your breeding trade after you have been confirmed your slot. Keep in mind that not all of the colorists will accept them right away, however.

Nestled between two canyons is a valley where the grass is tall, a brilliant green and whose flowers are scattered about. In the center of the Valley is a lake. North of the valley is a rock cluster and past that are the mountains from which two channels of the lake come from and combine together when in the valley to create a large body of water. It then leads into yet another channel leading to the south of the valley until it finally reaches the coast and combines with the oceans water.

West of the valley is a dense forest that not many venture into unless accompanied by another. Due to the forest being so dense, it is rather easy to get lost inside and risk wandering around in circle for days. Located just on the outskirts of the valley, Northwest of the lake is the village and in the center of the village is the school for which you learn to care for your dragon.

East of the valley is a canyon and beyond that canyon is a desert. Only those who seek solitude or death go there. There is nothing by sand and heat. There are some dragons and some humans who have managed to make a living out there but not many.

Essentially, there are three ways of getting a Dragon: through the events (look up), through customs (look down), and through freebies (look even further down). Events are more affordable, but happen less often. Customs can be attained whenever one of our artists decide to open a slot. Freebies, hah, good luck.

There are a number of ways to get a free dragon. There are always the event freebies (of which there are at least one every event). Other than that, there are two ways to get them outside of events:

Dice Rolling:
-Roll 10 100-sided dice. If you get 10-30 or 970-1000, you'll get a free custom. Fill out the custom for and don't forget to mention the page your dice roll is on.

Advertising Contest
-Tell your friends to swing by the shop and tell us that you referred them. If they say you referred them, you get one point. If they stay and chat for a while, you'll get ten points.
-At the end of every three months, the person with the most points will get a free adult dragon. Then, the board will be wiped clean to try again.
