*Nods* I agree with Kisoni - unless you plan on reusing your edits, there isn't a lot of point in templating something on another layer. Every artist has their own way (or ways!) of coloring. Some people prefer shading on a separate layer, and cool - but I don't think it makes it more/less professional to do it otherwise.

And I suppose you all do have a point about edits and templating and such... Since we're all pretty much doing this from scratch, stuff that normally couldn't fly in a shop with templates is pretty cool, too. XD I love it. <3

yah, granted I do my shading template style anyway... but that's because i know i'll screw something up if i don't segregate it XD for instance, i accidentally did my shading and highlights on teh same layer with henry, and had to redo the whole lot of it when i realized the highlights were too strong. I was cursing myself the whole way, as it was a good hours work down the drain

*nods* that makes sense. And actually, when you've got a character (etc) with a complicated pattern like your Koshkas' fur, it can really help to do the color patterns on one layer, and then the shading on another, and mutliply it so it applies to all of the different colors.
Ditto if you've got a complex fabric pattern or the like.

Loving that design aris!! And yeah XD it only helps to do things on seperate layers when you're going seriously complicated. Hell, i feel like i'm getting spoiled by my tablet and photoshop XD I keep trying to change layers or press undo when drawing with a normal pencil, now

watch the Batman with the Penguin in it. He has an umbrella gun in there where the bullets shoot out of the main "stem" of the umbrella. its sweet <3

I just like rockets and such for sheer awesomeness of propulsion. You could make all the little ribs of the top part mini-thrusters!

Mmm, I think the Undo button is digital art's one shining perk over traditional for me. <3 I love the forgiveness of a good photoshop file... until it chooses to crash and eat an hour's worth of shading. >.>
