[Keeper of Serenity]

Shadows of Serenity is a side project developed by theflyingkitty. It is an independently run sister shop to Serenity.
For those new faces, Serenity is the name of a planet far and long into Earth's future, carrying with it a hope for a new tomorrow.
The inhabitants you see here are descendant from life before that discovery, and exemplify the persistence of all life within the universe.

The laws of the land are here to keep peace among the many peoples. Tread upon these simple rules and you shall be punished.


1. ) No art theft.
This means that you may not make use of someone's uncerted or certed pet. You may not post your pets outside of gaia on any web pages. You may not claim anything here as yours. You may not take it off and make your own shop with it, or use it in your shop in any way. No warnings are given.

2.) Play nice.
If you can't figure this one out, there's something wrong. Don't want to see anyone whining because they didn't win a pet. If there's an auction, your free to complement the pet all you want, but do not say anything that might make others feel bad about bidding. Same goes with any contest or event. We don't want to see any name calling, or trying to con someone out of a pet in any way. Only one warning may be given.

The Techians live on a moderate sized crescent shaped island located on the southern hemisphere of the globe. There exists a bounty of jungle life, a small mountain range teaming with volcanic activity, and violet waters emptying out into a turquoise sea. Summers are warm and humid, while winters appear more temperate. During the cooler months snow occasionally falls near the mountains, offering an unsurpassed beauty for anyone taking advantage of many small hot springs!

The Story of the Shadow

Our race has existed since time began, carving our lives out on this planet we called home. Tetcha was it's name; the true name. What we saw first was a disturbance in the clouds. It was a dark swirling above the many lands of our world. Our elders thought it a sign of the gods. But no gods we knew could be capable of the cruelty that was yet to come.

It was when the pillars of fire came down from the stars that we truly looked to flee. Our race had always lived off the earth, and as a part of it. We had never found a need, or reason, to construct a device which would carry us away from this home. Desperate and fearing the worst, our elders cried out to each one, telling us to bury our child-pods deep, deep within the planet as we had done during hard times. And then they told us to go deeper still. Digging and reaching down into the farthest caves we carried them, birthed them, and gave them all of our hope and love before we ourselves fell into an eternal rest.

Our story is over. Our world, but a shadow of the serenity it kept. All that could have been was washed away in fire. However, there's a chance. You see, at least one clutch survived....

The Story of Serenity
It was deep within the earth that small clutch of pods hatched, sealed within an earthen womb of volcanic glass. Racial memories broken by time. How long had they remained there in a suspended state --- days? Years? Centuries? None would ever know. Language and fragmented dreamscapes were all that survived with these children who stepped out of the ashes and into the light.

It's been hundreds of thousands of years since those first hatchlings, and the Techan race once again came into the world. What was once an entire enlightened civilization of several million now exists as less than 25,000 individuals. They know not of what truly happened so long ago, but remnants of the past still whisper in their songs and stories.

At A Glance
The Technicians live in a jungle environment near a small chain of volcanoes. (Think Hawaii but larger, with some snow on the mountains, and several hot springs).

They eat vegetation and insects. Roots, Berries, Leaves, Shoots, Worms, Beetles, Grubs, Squash, and other such things are commonly eaten.

They are the largest animal on the island, and have no worry from predators. Dangers come from rival groups, volcanic activity, the ocean, and other such natural things.

They live in groups called "Troops," which are generally made up of friends and family. It is not uncommon to find one made up of a female, her current mate, their children, and some of her children from a previous mate.

They hold marriage contracts, which binds a male and female until the offspring are nearly grown. A male may hold more than one contract at a time.

It is rare, but it is possible for males to give birth. Often times, same gendered couples are known for stealing the pods of other pairs. Weather this is fact or fiction remains to be seen!

Most adults know how to make fire, but have little use for it in such a warm climate. It is used mostly for ceremonial purposes.

Eats: Grasses, roots, tubers, squash, moss, roots, leaves, shoots, berries, blossoms. Also occasionally eats fish, shrimp, insects, shellfish, and other small easy to catch protien-filled things.

Size: Males read about 3.5-4.5 sticks (feet) at the shoulder. Females generaly reach 2.75-3.5 sticks.

Groups: Generally made up of family and friends, large groups are called a Troop. The young, on the cusp of adulthood, will generally leave this unit to explore the world on their own or with siblings for a time. At this point, they will find a mate within another group, or return to their own for good. Visits are common.

Mating: It is not uncommon for females and males to keep a 'contract' for a time. This is, in essence, and temporary marriage for all sake of a better example. This generally lasts for one clutch (until the young are nearing adulthood), though it is not unknown for a single pair to remain together always. Males often and are able to keep several females (and sometimes males) as well, having many contracts at once. Neither a truly bound pair nor a harem are considered taboo.





Youngling
This stage comprises the time between emergence from the pod to just before puberty. This is an inquisitive stage of life in which the youngster is into everything. Nothing seems forsaken when it comes to taste, smell, and touch. Everything demands exploring! Please keep an eye on them in this stage, because you never know what trouble they might get into!

Breeding
Breedings do not currently require RP. However, look for them to do so sometime in the future. Only male/female pairings are allowed. Each individual is allowed 3 breedings within it's life. Please see the lower part of page 2 for further information on this subject!

Who runs the shop?
theflyingkitty does.

Can I work at the shop?
When we are hiring, there will be a notice. Then you may apply.

Can I color my own for free?
No. A good bit of hard work goes into keeping a B/C shop running. Prices are kept low and affordable, but are there to help keep it all up and running.

So, can I have a free pet then?
There are occasionally events which will offer the chance to gain a pet for free. Begging, however, is not tolerated.

Can I breed two of my own pets?
Yes! They must be a male/female pair of adult age and you will suffer a reduced litter size. See PG 2 for more details.

So, like, can I breed to males?
Currently, no. In the future when RP rules are put into place this may be possible at a severely reduced litter size.

How often to custom slots and breeding slots open?
They will open about once a month depending on the demand for them.

Will these pets have wings?
No. They will never be able to fly. Sorry.

The genders look so similar! How can I tell them apart?
Males have hair on the back of their arms. Females don't. There are also subtle differences in their horns.

Do I have to save my pet to my own server?
No. We will happily host both the certed and uncerted versions of your pet. Accidents do occur, however. And while we are using photobucket which seems stable, please make sure to keep a back up in the very least. If lost from our servers, we can not guarantee your pet will be found.

Are they RP required?
Nope! RP will be required to breed same-sex couples, however. There will also be a general breeding bonus to couples in the future.
