Shop Updates

September 25, 2010 :: My it has been a while since the shop thread has been updated properly! Lots of stuff is going on at the moment in the form of contests, growths, and general updates. Metaplot updates are to progress soon in the month of October. Good times to be had by all, I say!

October 3, 2008 :: There has been an assortment of actual updates and events prior to this update, mostly revolving around a very serious metaplot. Since the holidays are upon us, it's time for some FUN. Because, yes, this year, there sure as hell will be a Halloween party and there is a Paint-a-Pumpkin contest. The contest and also some spooky minis are available on the third page. Also be watching the Twilight Designs minishop (if you're not already). I've heard a rumor there could be items and, yes, Mystery Eggs available!

May 17, 2008 :: A smallish hoard of Sprites is to be released here shortly. There should also be more updates to the shop plot on the way. Updates may be slightly slow, though. Reyna's first convention of the summer is at the end of this month!

April 28, 2008 :: Huzzah! We're stirring up plots and activity with a new update to the Somebody's Eden arc of the shop plot! Post with the details of the event is located here.

March 11, 2008 :: Madness! The thread is complete in its entirety and we have stats posted in the Quick Reference Profiles which are coming together nicely. There's also a lengthy custom contest in our midst. I've heard rumors of amazing things so far from various guardians and lurkers. Can't wait to see your lovely entries! Twilight Designs is in fact in the minishop forum now (and has been for a while now) but is under construction. Should be some interesting things in store there as well. We've a lot to look forward to and it seems the year is shaping up nicely so far. It's going to be amazing for certain! What's more! We've already a handful of new guardians amongst us: Eirnae, Echo, Ithiltari, and Zero! Not to mention Thabara has returned to us with a lovely new girlie, Nephrite. What's to become of Sugi? Well... I'd advise you to watch the thread. There's plots to be stirred!!

November 30, 2007 :: Woooow. This could be the last official 'update' in the updates part of the shop for this year! Crazy! I might squeeze in another, but I can definitely say it's been a tumultuous year! I haven't quite gotten done everything I wanted (or what you guys were looking forward to, I'm sure), but here's to looking towards a new year and a fresh start! The shop's anniversary is actually Christmas itself! Hard to believe we're working towards year five! o__o Nothing but pure awesome on the way! Stay tuned!

January 21, 2007 :: Alllrighty! We have a new guardian in our midst! Please welcome Merci` to the fold! In addition to that, there is a contest in the works for a Red Star Ruby fiend. More details on that will be released soonish, so be on the look out for that. The Nightmare Before Christmas event will be OFFICIALLY coming to a close the last day of this month. Sorry guys, can't wait much longer than that! Anyway! Lots of fun stuff on the way. Be watching out for more announcements!

December 26th, 2006 :: Yeeaah. I'm a tad behind on the whole writing up the updates-stuff, but there's been a lot going on all over the place! The NPC contest was a blast. In fact! We have two winners. ShortGreen's character will become a shop NPC and then Neko's character will work as a seasonal worker for plot purposes. As soon as the SS madness is done and over with, I'll be busily working on Sprites (a lot of them just need to be colored and I've not had time to sit and do just that), so for those of you who are waiting on Sprite-stuff -- They're a'comin! And thank you for being patient. I greatly appreciate it. ^__^

Guild Announcements

December 26th, 2006 :: A few new updates! The collect points sticky has been revamped, so all Fiend guardians, please make sure you check that out. Also, another subforum has been added for lurker events! Fun stuff. Otherwise, not too many changes. There are a lot of stickies still under construction, but I'm hoping I'll have most of them completed by the new year, including the quick view profiles for Fiends that shall contain more detailed ability stats!

October 8th, 2006 :: Smallish changes have been made in the guild. I've also moved a lot of threads from the crew section to the notations/information subforum. Said threads are still under serious construction, but shall hopefully prove useful. Also, a thread for plotting and taking on 'challenges' will be set up soon. More info will be readily available once the thread is posted.

June 24th, 2006 :: Nothing much here to report! There are changes in the works for stuff within the guild, mostly old things made new again, but it might be a while before any of it is made public just yet.

  • Keep the drama to yourselves. If you have a problem with someone, the shop owners included, take it to PMs. The shop thread is not the place for such things and it will not be tolerated.

  • Do not steal the artwork. That means Reyna's and whoever else's that may be featured in the thread. Guardians are entitled to use shop images as they please for their journals and signatures, but otherwise, no stealing.

  • Serious roleplay should be done in the guild, but feel free to RP here in the thread as well. Lurkers may also join in unless it's been stated not to. Always be sure to ask before joining in to keep from interrupting any sort of plot that's going on.

  • All non-RP posts should be ((bracketed)) in some fashion when RP is in progress.

  • Bumping is unnecessary in this thread. Chatting and conversation in general is greatly encouraged, though!

  • Don't stretch the page. If you want to exchange links with this shop PM the code and image to the shop account 'AthanShade.'

  • Avoid using l33t or netspeak when chatting. Or your soul shall be eaten.

  • Don't whine. In general and in regards to everything. Whining will get you no where in this thread, dears.

  • Secrets are allowed to be kept by both Athan and Reyna. Besides, Athan is a pretty shady sort of guy. It's unlikely he'll reveal specific details to you unless he feels like it.

  • If you have a question regarding this shop feel free to PM Reyna Crelos or post your question in the thread. Do make sure you've read everything on the front page to keep from asking something that has already been explained.

  • Activity is required by guardians. Your Shadow will not be taken away without your knowledge or without a refund being issued. The shop understands that you all have lives and that perhaps, even for a year or more, you may not be able to update your journals given certain circumstances. All that is asked is that you communicate with the shop. Disappearing off the face of the Earth without response to PMs or to the shop at all could result in a rehoming of your Shadow, but this is a practice that is no longer maintained except in rare circumstances. Please also note that Shadows will not grow if their journal is not maintained and the journal requirements are not met.

  • Obey the GMs! The shopkeepers are Reyna (Tyrant), Thabara (Usurper), and Merci` (Mastermind)! Reyna is the shop artist and main owner of said shop. Thabs and Merci are her ever present, always helpful minions. Other guardians within the shop help out from time to time, too! It's a pretty fun group of people we have gathered here. n_n

  • These rules are subject to modification.

To understand what a Shadow is, you would first need to know how it was they came to exist. They were all once living beings -- humans, fae creatures, animals, and even monsters. Their downfall came when they crossed paths with a man named Doran. Over years, he had slowly become consumed by darkness and insanity. Initially, before true madness had completely seized his mind, he merely locked away his enemies within stones.

Fair enough for him to do so, you would think, as they would willingly do the same to him if given only half a chance. Unfortunately, that is not where his path of chaos stopped. He became so power hungry, so inhuman that he destroyed anyone that so much as glanced at him the wrong way. He locked them all away within precious gems and stones, trapping their souls and life energy in a miniature abyss for centuries.

Athan, who had been Doran's childhood friend, sought to stop him. Several battles between them ensued, but the struggle did not end with Doran's mortal death. He vowed to find a way to restore those that had been locked away.

The true challenge was bringing them back.

Despite his natural abilities at magic and spell-casting, he wasn't powerful enough to awaken them. At least not by himself. The stones were sealed with darkness, and his being an earth elemental did not aid him well in trying to break that seal.

Utterly desperate, he struck up a deal -- with a demon no less. In exchange for the ability to manipulate and use darkness as he needed to, he forfeited nearly all of his earth based abilities. To comprehend the severity of his situation, you must understand how entwined Athan was with his element, as most people from his world are. In essence, it wasn't just his natural given magic he gave up to right the wrongs Doran had committed, but also part of his soul.

Their bargain completed, Athan now had the power and ability to release the souls trapped within the gems he had managed to recover so far. Even so, it would take time before he was able to efficiently wield that power. That newfound strength still had its limits; he was hardly all-powerful, and unlike Doran he was not willing to completely give up his humanity for the sake of power. He could not return those souls to their rightful true forms without it killing him almost immediately, as to awaken them he had to transfer some of his own life energy to the gem to help it break free of its confines. However, he could offer them a second chance in a new form altogether.

They would only be a 'shadow' of their former selves -- creatures of darkness with no true memories of their previous lives, though some manage to experience brief glimpses of what once was. They are all bonded to Athan in some small way since he used his energy to bring them back to life, but they are heavily reliant on their soul bond with their guardian.

They are basically energy and emotional leeches. It doesn't hurt the guardian, though it might tire them out during strenuous times. Once they are older (teens and older) they actually form a more symbiotic relationship with their bond and actually share energy back and forth as necessary since their physical form cannot contain their own energy that keeps them alive.

Shadows and darkness are where they prefer to hide as they can blend in with it perfectly and not be seen. Naturally, they shy away from light as it is intrusive on their senses and would likely result in a migraine and one very irritable Fiend. The fact that they can so easily hide in darkness and because they are creatures of darkness, most Shadows are inclined to trickery and mischief. This is particularly so when they are children. Chaos seems to surround them at all times, but that is not to say they're all inherently evil per se, but they are troublesome to say the very least.

A slim chance remains that perhaps one day when they've achieved their final true form, that they might remember who they once were. The question is, will they want to?

Not everyone was an innocent bystander. Some very well may have deserved their fate. Some weren't even human. Unfortunately, there is no way of being certain who is who before they are awakened. Who's to say that one of those already lurking in their guardian's shadow isn't another Doran waiting to be unleashed upon the world?

Wisp :: The wisp stage is primarily for forming a bond physically and emotionally to the guardian. Other than that, there is not much else a wisp can truly do. However, they are capable of hiding themselves within the their guardian's shadow, manipulate darkness to a small degree (typically only the shadows that swirl about their stone), project their emotions upon people, and they can float. They also remain solid seeing as they are only a small gem, typically no bigger than a large broach or pendant like the one Athan wears, which makes them incapable of phasing through solid objects the way the would be capable of when they are older. Note: This stage is technically only supposed to last for a couple of weeks to a month in character. Mostly because this stage is boring and there's not a LOT to do during this time. Scroll down to the 'Quests' section to learn how to evolve to the next stage.

    What they CAN do:
    - Blend into shadows to hide.
    - Project their emotions upon people and feel the emotions of their guardian. (Empathy)
    - Sometimes the guardian might catch glimpses of the Shadow's powers. Example: Hawk is a Seer, Wren occassionally saw his visions. Rhodes is a healer and that enabled Aturos to have a brief moment of sight as he is blind. Bloodstone gave off calming vibes to Halo as he is very Zen-like. Small hints at power! Nothing more.
    - Float.

    What they CAN NOT do:
    - Speak. They have no physical voice whatsoever, not even telepathy during this stage.
    - Phase through solid objects (as older Shadows can).
    - Leave their guardian. They are stuck to them like glue. (Not in a literal sense unless we're talking about Labradorite! XD)

Stage Focus: (aka things to address/think about during this stage)
    - How does the guardian deal with the sudden constant intrusion in their lives?
    - What sort of personality does the stone project?
    - What sort of emotions do you normally feel from it?
    - Has anything strange happened since bonding to it? (Other than simply being bonded to it, of course!)
    - What sort of abilities/personality quirks/physical traits will it absorb from its guardian in the future?

Child :: Welcome to mass chaos. I could probably leave the description at that and I think it would sum it up nicely, but I'm partial to detail. By this point the creature has assumed a child-like form. Physically, they have the appearence of about an eight or nine year old child. They still prefer to cling to their guardian, but now they are more likely to wander about and explore things on their own -- just not too far away from their main energy source (YOU). At this time in their life they are the most chaotic and mischievous, so you are no doubt in for a LOT of trouble. Think terrible twos on crack and stereoids. To make matters worse, they can phase through walls and solid objects and have the general appearence of a ghost.

    What they CAN do:
    - Blend into darkness to hide and they can phase through solid objects! DOOM.
    - Break stuff, as they now have ickle little hands and limbs and that sort of thing.
    - They can actually form feet even though in the art of this stage they usually have tails. Generally, the only time they'd do this is if they were trying to take on a completely solid form which they can only do for a little while at a time. At this stage, they can only hold that form for maybe two hours at a time before phasing back into a transparent form. (Though most Fiends, even grown ones, switch back and forth at random as it is less taxing that way so that two hours could be spread out over an entire day.)
    - Speak via telepathy! Fiends don't have physical voices since their form is mostly just shadow.
    - Manipulate darkness. They can create small shadows to play with. Nothing major or huge at this time as this also uses up a lot of energy after a while, and during this time they need that energy to survive.
    - Even though they like venturing off and the like, they still really can't leave their guardian for too long a time. Physically, it's not comfortable for them to do so because it puts a strain on their bond which could result in, you guessed it, chaos. See the F.A.Q for more info on this.
    - Some start to develop powers during this stage, but think of it as them having just hit a growth spurt. They can't really control it and it would likely come and go.

    What they CAN NOT do:
    - Speak vocally.
    - Leave their guardian entirely (unless they're with Athan as they are bonded to him, too, but... would you really want to leave your Shadow with a grumpy old man? NO. Well. Maybe because it'd be funny, but NO.)
    - I can't think of any other restrictions. Yay! Just no super!powerful kids, kay? Or Athan will have to open up a can.

    Stage Focus:
    - Having fun torturing people with the chaotic kid of doom.
    - Developing your child's personality further.
    - Beginning to think about what their powers could be.
    - Just as the guardian has gotten used to the intrusion, now what? Since they're now faced with something new and unexpected and even more troublesome.
    - Have the feelings the guardian picks up from the Shadow changed?
    - Has their personality changed or differed from what was discovered in the previous stage?
    - How do they feel about Athan or other Shadows in general?

Teen :: The constant mayhem should've died down a bit by now. Teens have a bit more control and reserve. Physically, they have the form of a sixteen to eighteen year old. The constant clinging to their guardian should have mostly stopped (unless they're just clingy in personality the way Mystic is with Reyna). They also should at this point have already discovered or begun to discover their powers, if they have any to speak of. They're also a little more prone to taking on a solid form, as it is easier for them to manage.

    What they CAN do:
    - Pretty much everything they could do as a child, but with a bit more skill and practice. (That potentially includes the 'breaking things' bit. Teehee.)
    - Wander off by themselves, though they'd likely return to their guardian within several hours. They're not entirely grown yet even though they might deny it in a teenager-ish sort of way.
    - Control their powers a bit more, but not entirely. As in, if they actually are aware of their powers and how to use them, that ability would only work about half the time they try to intentionally use it.

    What they CAN NOT do:
    - Well... they still can't speak physically. They're stuck with the use of telepathy at this point.
    - Not really any other restrictions during this stage. They're on their way to being pretty much grown up!

    Stage Focus:
    - Has their relationship with their guardian changed at all?
    - Do they pull any sort of rebellious teenager stints?
    - Any "accidents" with their powers?
    - Anything strange happen?
    - Uh.. have fun! XD;

Adult :: Awww! They're all grown up! Cute. At this point they should have begun to fully discover their powers and the extent of that power. They have the physical embodiment of a person somewhere in their early twenties. They can survive on their own for the most part and won't be that reliant on their guardian but depending upon how close they are to their guardian, they may or may not hover about them still. This, again, depends upon their personality which should be quite vivid and obvious by this time. The main goal of this stage is pretty much to evolve as a character and discover who they really are. This DOES NOT necessarily mean to discover who they were in the past, it means to figure out who they are in the present and where to go on from there. They will, on the other hand, have to discover their true name, as so far they will not have had a name other than that of their stone or a nickname their guardian has given them.

    What they CAN do:
    - ... I would like to hope that would be obvious at this point, but if you REALLY wanna know, just .. ask. XD

    What they CAN NOT do:
    - This also seems rather redundant. If you need clarification, ask away!

    Stage Focus:
    - To discover their true name. This doesn't mean that immediately after becoming an adult they should be all, "omgwhat'smyrealname!?!" it just means that's the long term goal. Have a little fun with them as a grown up first, hm?

Evolution :: This stage is the precursor to the Shadow's final form as an Ancient. This stage is unusual in that it doesn't last particularly long. It is literally the in-between stage for Adult and Ancient. Essentially, they are stuck between what they are as a Fiend and what they are meant to be as an Ancient. This stage is meant to be the absolute pinnacle of chaos within the Fiend's life as their bodies are now storing most of the energy they produce instead of sharing it with their guardian. Their current form is not suited to contain so much energy, which is what triggers their evolution. They have no choice but to change or perish. During this stage, blatant changes in the creature's personality and appearance will become readily apparent. Hints of their true self come to light, so to speak. Appearance wise, it almost looks as if they have two selves layered on top of each other. This will make a lot more sense when you see the art. Their voice is also half real, and half telepathic, so it would be very strange and echo-y to hear.

    What they CAN do:
    - Everything they could do before, but now typical Fiendish type things (floating, skittering through walls, disappearing into darkness) have become more difficult. What was easy, has become very hard for them to do at all, lending to their frustration.

    What they CAN NOT do:
    - Nothing here has really changed.

    Stage Focus:
    - What sort of drastic changes have been made in their personality?
    - What sort of strain has this change put on their relationships with people they know?
    - By the end of this stage they should know their True Name (literally, their name that has nothing to do with their stone), and should be ready to choose their path. It's really more of unconscious decision for the Shadow, and a conscious one for the player if that makes any sense.

Ancient :: There are two paths to reach this final form. You, as a player, have to choose whichever best suits your character. We would like to hope that by the time your Fiend is an adult you might have a clear idea of which path to take. If you ever have any doubt, you can ask one of the shop GMs (Reyna, Thabara, Merci) for advice.

Real :: To become 'Real' is to become a mortal creature much like that of their guardian. In fact, by choosing this path the Fiend ends up being half of what they were in their past life and half of what the guardian is. This would be the more common path, as most Shadows feel a sense of being incomplete and strive to be something other than what they are. Mystic Topaz would be the primary example for this path choice.

Since the Shadow is now Real, they are no longer a Shadow, so they lose all of their basic Fiendish abilities. The only exception would be if your character's natural given element is darkness like Mystic, but even then he cannot disappear, or phase through walls or furniture. (There will be more details released on elemental stats later.) Telepathy and Empathy (unless your character happens to be highly empathic, which is possible) are also abilities that they lose. In exchange, your character gains full control of their natural, given abilities like Mystic's dreamwalking. They also lose their bond to their guardian and become entirely self-sufficient.

Ethereal :: This path is a bit more epic in nature, should be considered less common, and far more dangerous. In this instance, the Fiend remains half as they are as a Shadow and half as they used to be. Essentially, they remember their past selves almost entirely (a dangerous thing on it's own depending upon whom your Shadow used to be), retain their Fiendish abilities, and take control of their natural, given abilities. A prime example of this stage will be Hawk's Eye.

The downside to this path choice is that your character, while powerful, is also still volatile. They are capable of control, but not necessarily inclined to it. There is also the trouble of still being connected to their guardian, though albeit to a much smaller degree. It is possible for them to live on their own without their guardian, but should they cause a great deal of trouble, it would also spell trouble for the guardian.

Ethereal Ancient's also have issues with transparency and their voice in a most literal sense. Their voice sometimes sounds like one voice, sometimes it sounds split with different tonal values (think Diva Plavalaguna from the movie 'Fifth Element'). They also have to relearn their control with their phasing abilities. It's almost as if they are still stuck in Evolution.

Be forewarned, should you choose this path, your character would come under far more scrutiny by the NPCs. Athan is wary, and will not be double crossed as he was before. Should he detect any sort of mischief that might harm others, expect repercussions. That's not to say you shouldn't cause trouble, but plan on plotting a great deal with Reyna about it and possibly turning it into some sort of epic shop-wide event to… hunt down your character. Hahah. <3

Basic Abilities :: ALL Shadows are capable of the following at one time or another. What stage the ability takes effect will be listed in parenthesis. All abilities continue for the stage listed until adulthood. The only time this would change at all is if the Shadow were to choose to become human as an Ancient.
  • Empathy (All) :: They can feel emotions of others and project their emotions upon others. This ability is strongest when used in conjunction to their bond with their guardian.
  • Telepathy (Child) :: They can't so much read the minds of others as it is how they speak. The only person's thoughts they can read are their guardians and on the off chance, Athan's, if he were to be careless and let his guard slip and the Shadow in question were making an effort to see his thoughts.
  • Create/Manipulate Darkness (Child) :: They cannot create darkness without real shadows present. If they were trapped in a room that was completely lit with bright lights, this power would be useless. This ability also allows them to blend into shadows so they are not seen.
  • Floating (All) :: They're virtually weightless unless having taken on a solid form, so they float!
  • Detect Magic (All) :: It's not so much that they can find magical items or know what it's for, but as they are creatures made mostly of magic, they can sense and sort of feel magic when it is being used, if a creature is made from magic, or if a person uses magic on a regular basis. This is particularly true when another of their kind is near, as technically, they are all linked through Athan. They would be particularly sensitive to shadow magic and the darker arts. If you want more clarification on this or want to know if they would feel it if such and such happened, just ask.
  • Transfer Energy (Child) :: Shadows can trade energy back and forth with their guardian via their bond. Imagine the bond that connects them as a long cord or wire that ties them together. That connection is how Shadows share energy, and transfer emotions to their guardian. Also, the guardian is enabled to use this bond just as well as the Fiend.
  • Phase (Child) :: Eh. I need a better term. Anyway! What I'm referring to is how Shadows can phase through solid objects. They cannot, unfortunately and perhaps even luckily enough for the guardian, phase large items with them when fleeing through walls and whatnot. The only exception of this rule would be if the item in question is made of shadows (i.e. Mystic's cloak). Technically, a Shadow might be capable of pulling their guardian through a wall or an object if need be, but idealy they wouldn't be strong enough to pull this off until they were at least a teen.

Current Abilities :: Not all abilities are actually in use as most are intended for the future, and can potentially change in the future, but not by much. These abilities are entirely unique to the Shadow that uses it.
  • Mystic :: minor spell-casting (learned from Athan), dreamwalking.
  • Hawk's Eye :: major spell-casting in the future, Seer, static-shock XD;
  • Bloodstone :: Zen (gives off calming vibes, and calm others), damn good at martial arts
  • Chrysoprase :: he can dissolve into thin air. Literally. And he ... eats things.
  • Labradorite :: telekinesis and true telepathy in that she can actually read the thoughts of people other than her guardian.
  • Citrine :: obvious agility, as she.. uh.. catches mice! <3
  • ...

Doran (who has now become Smokey Quartz) is the character that put everything into motion as far as the SF world goes. If it weren't for him, there would be no Shadows, Athan wouldn't be nearly so disgruntled, and the world would all be peachy keen all the time. Unfortunately, that's not how life works. The man went insane, trapped people in stones, and ironically enough, ended up trapped as one, too. Proof, I should think, that karma will in fact catch up with you one day. He is in fact originally from the same realm that Athan is, and they actually grew up together as childhood friends.

The fact that they were once friends was the sole reason as to why Athan decided to allow him to live on as a Shadow, otherwise he would have locked the stone itself away in a void or destroyed it entirely. Either way, time will tell whether or not Doran has changed or if he is really even himself anymore. Already he has changed quite noticeably since he is now a 'she'.

Athan is the main character in the story for the most part. He is the one he hunts down the stones, and releases them as Shadows. He's a fairly quiet individual with a stormy sort of disposition. He often seems very glum and dreary if you catch him outside of his work at Twilight Designs. Otherwise he's a very charming, if not slightly intimidating, man and generally strives to be very polite. He's also very, very old. Centuries, so, but obviously his appearence is that of someone in their mid to late twenties, possibly early thirties.

Due to the fact that he is often seen wearing dark, black robes (and when Reyna and Wren first met him he had spelled them so they were constantly shifting as though made of shadows) he's been nicknamed Mr. Death. It's not a name he appreciates whatsoever, but it is the one of the few ways to irritate him. Any other time, he usually remains very calm, cool, and collected.

Hot-tempered and more than a little disgruntled, Reyna was the very first to be bonded to a Shadow. At first she resented it, but has come to rather enjoy having Mystic around. Despite the fact that Athan dislikes demons in general, and the fact that she isn't all that fond of him, they work well together as business partners which has so far made Twilight Designs a rather profitable little shop.

Reyna is also an artist and has taken to designing quite a bit of the jewelry within the shop herself. Her paintings (most of which are just abstract splashes of color) line the walls, as well. She's fairly nice to all the customers that come through the shop, but it's generally best not to push her. She has berserker tendencies and when angered to a certain point, things have the tendency to get a little.. messy. Otherwise she's quite nice if you can get past the cold, gruff exterior!

Wren can easily be classified as a wise-cracking demon. Or maybe just a nut in general. Either way, he's a rather entertaining guy and he's one of the few people that are actually friends with Reyna. As such, he's prone to hanging around the shop on occasion. That tendency could likely also be blamed on the fact that he rather enjoys antagonizing Athan. It's very easily one of his favorite past times. Reyna's, too, which is why they often gang up on him with their teasing.

His Shadow,
Hawk, doesn't take so kindly to his constantly trying to torture Athan, which of course complicates matters. Wren and his Fiend are typically at odds with each other, but then it could also be said that Hawk is constantly at odds with just about everyone. (It's a Seer thing!) On a random note, Wren is also a very talented author and writer.

To achieve growth for a wisp, you must be able to answer the questions listed below. If you can't answer these questions, then you might need to do a little bit more writing. There is also a certain amount that must be written entry wise for each stage as detailed below. Specifically for wisps, here's what you should be able to answer:

  • What is your Fiend's basic personality?
  • How has the guardian dealt with being constantly stalked by their Shadow?

Journal Requirements
The journal requirements that must be met, as these ARE roleplay required pets, are listed below. Also note, these are the minimum requirements for growth, so please feel free to write more if you feel so inclined. Be aware that your pet will never be taken away from you for inactivity, nor will you be punished if for some reason you have to go six months or even a year without participating in the game. The only time this would be an exception is if you were assigned an important NPC for a shop metaplot. In that instance your character would be reassigned to someone else.

The general journal requirements are as follows:

  • Wisp:: 4 Solo entries, 1 RP. Excludes awakening of Shadow if done via RP.
  • Child :: 8 Solos, 3 RPs.
  • Teen :: 15 Solos, 6 RPs.
  • Adult :: 25 Solos, 8 RPs.
  • Evolution :: 10 Solos, 2 RPs
  • Ancient :: Final form. Continued activity will allow you to obtain more artwork. Artwork may be updated once every 6 months. Required activity: 6 Solos, 2 RPs within 6 months.
  • Exchange rate :: 1RP Entry = 2 Solo Journal Entries

Exceptions can be made to these requirements if your solo journals are especially lengthy. If you would like to inquire about this, just ask Reyna to review your journal! Also, should you partake of a shop plot mini quest or group quest they can be exchanged at a higher rate than both RPs and Solos, which of course, will lessen the amount of entries you have to worry about. if you're ever in doubt, simply ask.

A Note About Quests
  • Quests for stage growths are no longer a requirement due to the sheer number of shop quests made available during metaplot updates and general events.
  • If you would like to be assigned a shop metaplot related quest, or just a general quest for the development of your character, just ask! Reyna has a talent for plotting. It's what demons do best, you know.

Current, Pending Growths
Below are my notes and details on who is currently ready for growth and what wisps are ready to grow. Obviously, I don't base growings on how long a person has technically had a Fiend. It's based on activity and character development. If you're ready for your Fiend to grow and have met the above journal requirements, submit the form listed at the bottom of this post to AthanShade.

The Beginning :: Before there was really a story at all, and this shop had just started. The premise was infinitely simpler and there was no hugely complicated story. Just a set of characters and a few guidelines. From there it evolved and turned into something far more interesting. Athan used to be just a random mysterious guy. No one was meant to really ever learn who he was, but my how times have changed! And damn characters for taking on minds of their own and developing themselves!

Something Wicked Plot :: This was the plot that set everything into motion and began to develop all the characters involved. It started out as just a little something to try and get guardians active and involved in something interesting. It ended up creating just about everything. Funny how a little bit of chaos and destruction results in creation. This is when Doran came to life and threatened everyone and virtually everything. To read the plot go

This F.A.Q. is mostly in reguards to abilities and Fiends in general rather than shop regulations, but that's primarily because Fiend-related questions are what I've recieved the most of! If you have a question that isn't addressed here, feel free to post your question in the thread. It will be answered promptly, no doubt! I'm pretty good at paying attention to my lurkers and guardians. <3

Q. How exactly does their bond with their Guardian and Athan work?
Fiends are first created by Athan in their wisp form. Before he gives them away to a Guardian they are bonded entirely to him, so even after a bond is formed with a guardian there is still a small connection to Athan. Occasionally, a Shadow might be able to pick up on thoughts or feelings of Athan's as well as their guardian's, though it would be rare considering how closely guarded Athan keeps his thoughts. The bond between guardians and a Fiend, though, grows much stronger over time than the bond that Athan has with all his creations.

Q. How solid is a Fiend? Are they simply wispy transparent-like creatures that float through walls or can they take on a more physical form?
Fiends can be either one, really, though they prefer to remain 'transparent-like' most of the time. They can float through walls and inanimate objects -- and sometimes even animate objects which can sometimes be.. and odd experience. They typically can't hold their physical form for very long (say more than a couple hours) while they're children, but once their teens it becomes a little easier to maintain.

Q. How soon do most Fiends start showing their own special abilities?
Sometimes abilities show right away in wisps, but it's rare. So far only a handful of Shadows have been able to do that. Powers aren't really what you have to be concerned about right away.

Q. How far away can a Fiend physically be from it's Guardian?
Well.. let's say that a Guardian leaves their home and left their Fiend inside. Once the Guardian walks about a block or two away from the house the Fiend is going to be rattling around inside the home (probably tearing up everything inside) in an attempt to escape to go and be with their Guardian. Distance doesn't hurt them or the Guardian at all, but the Fiends will not be appreciative. It's more of a comfort thing for them to be able to cling to their bonded's shadow.

Q. When will my Fiend grow?
Check out the quests part of this page. There's a bit more information there about growth and that sort of thing.

Q. Hey! This other person's Fiend grew before mine and I've had my Fiend longer!
Read the question and answer above this one. I don't just hand out new stages to Fiends. I work hard on the lineart and coloring for these creatures, and essentially I'm giving you free artwork for nothing more than pixel gold (if that!). I expect you to put some effort into developing your character. I'm not strict on my rules, but as long as I know you're trying we should be on good terms and growth shouldn't be an issue.

Q. Do we get quests for our Fiend's growth?
Not anymore! This is partly because we think it's become unnecessary due to the number of metaplot related quests that become available on a regular basis. The shop GM also prefers a non-invasive approach when it comes to running the shop. You are free to write about your character within the SF world so long as your character adheres to the general guidelines provided that defines SF as a world. Simply put: so long as your Fiend does things that Fiends do and you stick with that general concept, you're in good standing with the shop. We feel no need to shove a plot you may or may not enjoy upon you.

Q. I'm trying to come up with ideas for my Fiend, but I am.. so.. lost. I think I might need to give up my Shadow or something! T__T
Nooooo! Don't do that! PM me and I'll give you my AIM screen name I'm usually on and we can plot things out together. Inspiration is never hard to come by when you have someone to bounce ideas off of! Besides.. I LOVE plotting out Fiend stuff. You might also want to browse through the guild and check out the spiffy threads in the info section or even plot with another guardian to cause some mischief!

Q. How long have the SF been in existence, where have they been since they've been entrapped in the stones, and would they remember anything from while they were a stone?
The Fiends themselves have technically only been in existence since about December of 2004 (when the shop opened).. the stones they came from have been around for.. well.. several thousand years give or take. They're scattered through multiple dimensions and realms, so the age of each stone varies. Athan doesn't actually have all the stones. When he usually mutters about "having pressing matters to attend to" it means he's hunting down another stone.

I'm not so sure about remembering anything while they were a stone, but that's only because it's an avenue I haven't ventured into or thought of.. I would think that right after being locked in the stone and right before they were awakened by Athan they'd have some memories of that if you want to tinker around with that idea -- and what I mean by all that is, the stones can be as young or old as you want them to be.. Athan is old as dirt. He can handle it.

Q. Can Shadows breed and have children?
They most certainly can, but not until they've become an Ancient. More details regarding this will be released once more than one Fiend has reached that particular stage. And on a note about breeding in general, you will not be made to give up the children, and they can breed with whomever or.. whatever they want, just so long as there's RP proof that those two characters have a relationship that would enable such things to be possible.

Q. Are the Shadows visible to people other than their guardian?
Yes! They can be seen at all stages unless they make an effort to not be seen. By that, I mean they would not be visible to anyone at all (except perhaps Athan) if they were to hide within shadows. Otherwise, they're there and people can see them.

Twilight Designs Shop Description

From the outside, Twilight Designs appears very much like an atypical jewelry store. The décor both outside and in is a mix of modern design and a more classic, traditional elegance. There are two expansive window displays on either side of the main door. The door that leads into the shop is frosted glass with etched designs of scrollwork and the shop’s logo (which I shall draw out properly within the next few days since I likely won’t be home much tonight to do so).

Everything is framed in stainless steel, glass, and dark, earthy brick on the outside walls. The location of the store itself is also in Durem and more or less caters to a more wealthy crowd, however, Athan is not one to turn people away for not having enough money (but typically doesn’t hand out things for free unless he is trying to make up for an “accident” in the shop in which he feels responsible).

There is also a sign higher up on the building itself above the door and tall glass windows that displays the logo in shimmering silver. It glows at night, but appears more like moonlight than the typical neon used.

The inside of the shop itself (excludes the back room entirely) is fairly dark, but well lit enough to be comfortable and to display the jewelry properly. The floors were previously covered in a plush, deep wine colored carpet but have since been replaced with dark, hard wood floors given the number of, well, incidents that have occurred in the front end of the shop. The walls are an egg plant color and are lined with large canvas paintings of Reyna’s, most of which are abstract and hold no significant meaning to her or the shop. They’re just there to be pretty, though occasionally one is sold and then replaced by a new work.

The back room is off limits to most, though guardians and Fiends are welcome to lounge as they please. It’s a fairly expansive room and is actually bigger than the front end of the shop. It’s also even more dimly lit, largely to comfort whatever Shadow may be lurking.

There is a large, rounded couch in the very center of the room. It’s more of a sectional and there are two parts to it, both approximately the same size. Say, if Athan is sitting on one of the couches, it would be possible for another to sit across from him on the section. There is also a large round, glass coffee table there.

The walls are more of a burgundy color, but truly it is the ceiling that is most impressive. Reyna painted a mural on the ceiling that resembles the night sky and Athan spelled it so that it reflects the movement of the stars. It shifts and moves sort of like a planetarium, but does not provide any true light. It’s just a pretty, realistically shifting, moving painting. There is also carpeting that is soft and thick which is a very dark gray, close to being entirely pitch black.

There isn’t an actual full-size kitchen in the backroom, but there is a small kitchenette. If entering from the front of the shop, it would be on the left hand side against the wall almost immediately after entering. There is a sink, a compact sized refrigerator, dish washer, and coffee pot. Reyna wants a microwave, but for some odd reason, Athan hates them and refuses to allow it. Above the sink there are cabinets in which various cups can be found along with teas and coffee, should anyone want to fix themselves a drink while visiting.

If facing the sink, to the far right is a massive vault (like a bank) where valuables are stored. Only Athan and Reyna can open the vault. Also, within the back room there is a small, for lack of a better term, void, which Athan uses to store other valuables – such as Fiend stones. Only he is capable of opening the void.

If you were to walk past the couch and the main vault, there is another door that leads to a small hallway which leads to yet another door. This is the back door and leads directly to the alleyway.
