Alice fluttered about, looking at her reflection on the water, making a crown of flowers for her hair, and shooting endless glances at the White Rabbit doll. He had said that he was waiting for someone very important to come and that he was worried that he was late in being there. The Cheshire cat, on the other hand, was swimming around in the water, smiling and singing all the while.
Alice sighed. "Mr. Rabbit, do try to calm down. I'm sure you're not late. How could you be? You're friends coming here. So, you can't be late."
The White Rabbit gave her a mortified look. "Are you MAD?! I have to be late! The Queen is NEVER late! She's ALWAYS on time! It's ME who's always late!"
"But, how can you be late, if she's meeting you? Surely that must mean she's late..."
"NO! She can never be late! All ways are her ways! And she is never late, so I'm the one who's late!"
Alice sighed and continued to play with her hair. "I'll never understand that rabbit." She said softly to herself.
