Dickens, singular and plural. It is also sometimes pluralized as Dickenses.

you think that's a fricking joke but it isn't.

Really. Webcomics! I mean, if Dickens has any stance at all, it's something about wasting time enjoyably, so. If you've got some time to burn, get out there and burn it just like Dickens would.

Bam's recommendations:
Achewood - Here is a comic with bad art and excellent writing. The archive is staggering, but the best suggestion I can give is to start at its lame beginnings and just keep reading until you like it. Eventually you will get to sweeping character arcs, but first you have to read about a stuffed otter standing on a drum kit manual. That's the way of the world, man.
Templar, AZ - Delicious buttery artwork, wonderful writing and inspired world-building, plus I also have a giant nerd crush on the author, who introduced me to all sorts of Terrible Things on the Internet.
Pictures for Sad Children - Another comic with writing so sharp you don't give a s**t that it's stick drawings! PFSC is horrible and makes you feel like giving up!
American Elf - A diary comic that's spanned over 10 years now; if you enjoy some degree of voyeurism, you'll probably like this.
Hark! A Vagrant - Expressive history comics in various states of illegible scrawl!

Corn's Choices!
Nature of Nature's Art - Animals doing kung-fu based on other animals and discussing moral dilemmas! Having finished the first story, 10%+, which was mostly in full color, the author has moved on to a black and white pallet for number two, SECRETARY. Both are excellent, btw.
Gunnerkrigg Court - Technology warring against magic, but in the disguise of a high-class private school. Oh my!
Rice Boy - Actually home to both Rice Boy and Order of Tales. Rice Boy, however, is finished. Also went from full-color to B&W. Both are worth a read, and incredibly beautiful to boot!
The Meek - Just starting, but I've seen some of the sketches of future comics. It's going places.
The Abominable Charles Christopher - Big brown yeti dude going on adventures.
Estancia - Old, dead, and a little animu, but totally worth it for the ********.
