Roughly 15 years ago, a dedicated group of individuals set out on an impossible endeavor… to successfully engineer a living, breathing dinosaur.
Their efforts were a success, but due to a lack of knowledge, the ending result was a terrible disaster.

After over a decade of further genetic and behaviorally studies, another group has been able to accomplish something never thought possible… successfully raise a breeding colony of these genetically engendered animals.

Welcome to the Mountain Valley Rex Ranch. Here, we engineer and breed a super-specialized species of Tyrannosaurus called the ’Rex’. Unlike their biological forefathers, Rexes are much safer to work with, and can very easily be tamed.
Because of this, they are now being sold as pets to those wealthy enough to afford them.

Rexes can be engineered to the most detailed of specifications, and thus come in a full rainbow of colors and designs. They are also easy to breed, and can produce some truly radiant offspring.

I’m not sure how well known my distain for the adult female Rex’s lineart is… but allow me to enlighten those that were previously unaware…
I dislike it. A lot. I’ve been wanting to revamp them for a while now, and I finally got around to doing it.
Now, as shop patrons, I’d like you to vote and tell me your opinions. Keep the old lines, or switch over to the new?
Please keep in mind that if we do switch over, none of the existing females will be converted to these new lines. The only way to get your female switched will be to pay for a new custom.
Please also know that I am adamant about changing the old lines… if this new revamp doesn’t win anyone over, then I’ll continue working until I get one that I like.

If you have any critiques on the new lineart, or would like to see something changed up a little bit, feel free to post! I’d like to get feedback on what you do/don’t like.

FAQs

Do I direct link?
Yes! You should always keep the version we host for you handy... however, we will NOT host your uncerted images, so you need to save that on your own image host. We also recommend saving all your Rex's certs; while we will never delete them, sometimes accidents happen, and its best to have a backup!

Whoah! I was just looking at my old Rex... when I noticed something had changed on his/her image! What's going on?
If you're direct linking us, then you may occasionally notice changed made to your Rex's cert! It can be something small, like the text being moved around a bit... or something huge, like an entirely new cert! So always remember to keep the MVRR-hosted cert handy, to keep your Rex up-to-date!

I purchased a Rex that has already been named. Can I pick a different name for him/her?
No- if you buy a Rex that has still has its name, the old owner obviously wanted it stay that way.. Not to worry, though- 95% of the Rexes that go up for sale are unnamed.

How many Rexes am I allowed to own?
As many as you’re willing to buy (this may or may not change in the future, depending on how popular they get)

My egg/juvenile Rex’s image has not changed to its next stage! What’s going on??
Unfortunately, this MAY end up happening if things get too hectic in RL.
Please don’t send in a complaint unless a week past the max amount of aging days has passed. When you do mail, please only send it to the mule (this) account.

Its been a very long time since the last flatsale/auction… when will the next one be?
I really hope this doesn’t end up happening, but if it does… please don’t freak out. Sometimes things just get backed up, and we don't have the time or manpower to hold events :C

I ordered a custom, and it came out wrong. Will you fix it?
Absolutely. If an error has been made, please PM the colorist with exactly what's wrong, and we'll do our best to fix it.

So I was looking through the owner's list... and I noticed that there were two different female Rex images... like with different art and everything. What's up with that? Are there two different males too?
We recently revamped the old female template- if you're looking through older female's images, than you're probably looking at the old lineart!
And no, there hasn't been (and probably wont be) a male Rex revamp.

I have one of these old lineart females... are you going to transfer her to the new lines?
No, I'm sorry, but you'll have to buy a custom slot to have your old female moved to the new lines. There maybe discounts available for this at a later date.

Rexes:

Egg-


The first stage of any Rex is the egg. Generally mating pairs produce two eggs per breeding, though more have been known to occur. An egg must incubate for 1-2 weeks before it is developed enough to hatch.





Juvenile & Adult Rexes-
Once an egg hatches, a Rex pup emerges! While they may look cute, they are extremely demanding, and require an enormous amount of care and interaction. Juveniles generally take 2-3 weeks before fully maturing.
Adults are the final level of Rex maturity. Now is when they are able to breed, and their personalities can be determined. Females are technically larger than males, and more aggressive. They also have larger claws, ideally for helping them better tend to their eggs, though more commonly to ward off males that have overstepped their boundaries.









Spinosaurus:



Adult Spinos-
Little yet is known about these terrifyingly dinosaurs, as we have only been able to successfully recreate them for a short time.

Personality Types-
Rexes are born with their own distinct personalities. Which personality they have depends largely on how they were raised. You have the option of purchasing a Rex that was raised one of two ways:

Hand Raised-
These Rexes are personally hand-raised by the dedicated staff of Mountain Valley Rex Ranch.
They tend to be much more tame, though can be skittish around other Rexes.

Group Raised-
These Rexes are raised by groups of free-roaming Rex packs that live on the Ranch.
They tend to be more aggressive, though are generally very sociable around other Rexes.

The Chart:

The above are the NORMAL standards for Rex personality grouping. It is possible for personality types to leak into the opposite category. For example, it IS possible to have an Aggressive Hand-raised, just as it is possible to have a Shy Grouped and so on. However, these deviations are rare.

So why should I care about personality types?
A Rex’s personality heavily influences how it will breed. Certain personality types simply will not breed with each other. The following is a complete list of personality-based breeding compatibility:

So… which type of upbringing should I invest in?
If you are looking to breed your Rex, it is recommended you invest in Hand Raised. This type generally supports a broader range of breeding compatibility than Group Raised Rexes do.
If you don’t have any plans on breeding your Rex, it is suggested you purchase a Group Raised. The prices for this grouping are significantly lower than Hand Raised.

Payments must be sent within 24 hours of offering. If they are not, the Rex/Spino will NOT be put back up for offer. Instead, they will be kept by the MVRR, named (by us), and possibly used for future public breedings. Eventually they might be placed for re-sale.

However, due to limited housing and availability of resources, MVRR will require a share of any profit made on the Rex. Below is our exact percentages from each type of sale:

How to breed:
First off, you must have a Rex to breed. If you have a male, you will need to find a compatible female. If you have a female, you will need to find a compatible stud. Remember to always mail the owner of the Rex you wish to get a breeding from FIRST. MVRR will usually have a few studs/females available for public breeding, so don’t sweat it if there is no one open for breeding at the time of your request.

Inter-Ranch Breedings:
MVRR now offers breeding slots to Rexes that live in the same Ranch (IE, are both owned by one person). These slots operate a little differently than normal breedings, so listen up:

!) Same-Ranch breedings are only 12k per breeding.
!) Same-Ranch breeding will always result in HALF the usual amount of eggs from a normal breeding. This means the usual 2 eggs is reduced to 1. If you have stat bars on your Rexes, and they read either happy or Ecstatic, then you will get 2 eggs over the usual 3-4.
!) As with normal breeding slots, once you purchase one you have to wait until 3 different breedings occur before you can claim another slot.

Rex compatibility-
Please refer to the personality section above for the breeding compatibility list.

Incompatible Rexes-
Rexes who’s personalities are not compatible cannot breed.
This rule may only be bypassed for Rexes who are RPed (more info on this later)

Once you have two compatible Rexes that are willing to breed, message this account with both Rex's images, and the name of both owners. If more than two groups apply for the breeding slot, the people who mailed first will get it. To make sure everyone gets a fair shot at breeding, a person who has just bred their Rex will not be allowed to apply again until after 3 different breedings.

Rexes may need to be housed for about 5 days before an egg can be produced.

After an egg(s) is laid, the prospective owner must then choose if they want their hatchling to be Hand Raised or Group Raised. Both options are free.

Gender is determined via dice roll, and done privatly by the colorist in charge of the breeding. A 4-sided dice is rolled for each egg being laid; evens are females, odds are males.

All breedings are guaranteed to produce 2 offspring. However, there are ways to increase the likelihood that your Rex will have a larger clutch ((more info on that here)).

Determining who gets which eggs should be done in PRIVATE, through PM, IM, etc. It is not MVRR's responsibility to decide these things, and we do NOT want any fights breaking out on the shop board in the event of a disagreement. If you have a serious problem with anything, PM Kuro Kitters or the mule. If this rule is not followed, we reserve the right to confiscate the eggs and either keep or resell them here.

At MVRR, you have three distinct options for RPing your beloved Rex!

On the Ranch
With this option, your Rex lives comfortably on the gigantic ranch used by the MVRR scientists to genetically recreate Rexes. They have direct contact with humans, but are not necessarily owned by any one person. All your Rex's needs are provided for it at the Ranch, so hunting is strictly recreational. The largest problem Rexes run into on the ranch is territorial disputes, as the MVRR compound has three distinct packs that control much of the land.

The Wilds
You can choose to take one of two approaches here: either living wild in the PRESENT, or PAST.
Either way, your Rex no longer has any contact with humanity, and is completely feral. In the wild, Rexes must hunt to support themselves, which can be done either alone or in packs of other Rexes. Food and other resources are the number one concern for wild Rexes, though territory can be extremely important to larger packs.

City Dweller
Also considered the 'pet' option, your Rexes lives with you (or an OC of yours), and is under your care. This may be the most diverse options in terms of a Rex's usability, as there are few limits as to what, when, and were they can be. You can choose to own and manage your own Ranch, caring for them as the staff at MVRR does for their animals, or they could even be things such as mounts for transportation. The only limit in this category is your own imagination!

Thanks to our highly advanced genetic research labs here at Mountain Valley, we are now able to bring you something that has never been done… completely customized Rex designs!

But how do we do this, you ask?



Many of our Rexes here are created via the very technical process of extracting Tyrannosaur DNA from mosquitoes trapped in fossilized amber. Once extracted, we can manipulate the retrieved DNA in any way we choose, and can thus create completely new and unique patterns for your Rex!

However, this process is none too cheap… when buying a custom Rex, you are really purchasing the amber that contains the future animal’s DNA. Finding this amber is extremely difficult, and extracting the DNA within is just as hard. Because of this, the price is over double that of a Rex already created/bred from MVRR.
