[Lord MaoZhu]

Long, long ago, before the Mao where sent here to this glorious valley, Lord Maozhu reined in the heavens alongside the other twelve guardian deities. Century after century Lord Maozhu watched the humans run in endless circling cycles that would never end. It was no surprise that he grew tired of watching them.
So Lord Maozhu set out to create the perfect species. Using the very clouds of his heavenly domain he created the first Maos. Hand-picking this very valley he sent his children down to the earth. He lovingly watched his children grow from above for many, many years as they grew swiftly. However, as time wore on his beloved Mao started to drift from him and started down a path not far from that the humans followed.
Lord Maozhu was upset, that his children had started to fall to the level of the humans he had left behind. In his rage he shook the valley and struck the very center with his paw as a vivid reminder to all that he was watching them. The immaculately white, paw-shaped, stone that remained, constantly reminded all Mao that Maozhu was watching over his children. It also marked the beginning of a new age for Mao, leading us into a united system of clans.
Century passed and Maozhu was pleased with his children's progress as they learned, grew and worked together. But, he felt too distant from his children. He wished to be closer to them, to learn more about each individual. It was then that he came up with a brilliant plan and set it into action. During the thirteenth month, our short(thirteen day) month of celebration, signs were given and led to every Mao to be drawn to the Zhuazi(mark of Maozhu) on the thirteenth day of the thirteenth month. A Mao from among them began to glow and slowly began to rise from the ground as everyone watched in bewildered awe as their fellow was lifted into the sky, vanishing into the clouds.
Life returned to a semi-normal pace for awhile before bizarre things began to occur. An interesting new animal appeared in their woods and various plants that had never before been seen sprung up from the ground. And thirteen years after the Mao was lifted from among them he returned. Descending from the heavenly clouds in the manner of which he had been lifted. His appearance hadn't changed much but, for some reason, that even he couldn't explain, he had interesting powers. Shortly after the return of the first a second Mao glowed and rose into the sky.
This event occours without fail every thirteen years. A Mao is returned to the valley, with no recollection of what had happened, and a new one was lifted into the clouds. The event became known as the Shijande, the chosen, Xuyanzei, and the returned earned the title of Biao.
It wasn't long before the Mao began to hold a celebration festival every year to honor Maozhu as well as past and present Xuyanzyei and Baio.
Over the years the annual festivals became a sort of series of competitive games to 'test' Mao and see who was the most worthy candidate of becoming the next Xuyanzei. These games, though fun, have no sway in who is chosen by Lord Maozhu. There is however there is a certain degree of respect that a Mao can earn by winning the games.



The Shijande draws near and even though relations between clans are competitive they work together to prepare for the festival. However this year they have other problems to deal with. A spiteful Mao and his group of followers, who seek to destroy not only the celebration but the unity of the four clans as well. This Mao goes by the name of Kuzo and is considered a dangerous, dark Mao. His fur is as black as his heart, his golden eyes gleam with malice. An he glides like a shadow both on land and in the skies. Those who meet him usually have to choices join him or perish. As the Shijande draws closer things could get violent as Kuzo seeks to fulfill his destructive dreams.

_The four clan villages
Each clan has a home village called by the name of the clan. The village serves as a home base for each clan's members though groups of trade members from all clans reside in each village in order for each to function as units of the whole.

_Zhuazi, The mark of Maozhu.
Zuazi is the paw shaped patch of beautiful white cobblestones. This mark is believed to be where Maozhu himself touched the earth with his godly paw. This place is sacred to Mao and as such it is used for the Shijande celebration and important ceremonies.

_Shui Falls
The great waterfall that cascades from the steep rocky cliff of the valley wall. It is a beautiful sight.

_Xuayna Caverns
The vast labyrinth of a cave system with various entrances that pock mark the northern most wall of the valley. These treacherous caves are home to many dangers and are avoided by Mao. Kuzo's lair is located somewhere in the vast system of caves, though this is not a well known fact.

_Shenshu River
The main river that runs through the valley. It is the main source of water in the valley, but there are various other small streams and rivers too.

_Lauo Woods
A patch of trees that stand between the north valley wall and the Zhuazi. The Zanshi clan village is not far from these woods.

_Senlin Forest
The vast expanse of trees that push themselves up against the rocky cliffs of the south wall and around west tapering off as it reaches the waterfall. Most the game and herbs that Mao use are gathered from.

_Yanshi Pass
A narrow, rocky passage that is the only way in or our of the valley by foot. Mao rarely ever leave the valley but there is always some Zanshi clan members guarding this pass.

Roleplay is not required here. However it is highly encouraged and has benefits, like a variety of extra stages.

Skills

Skills are essential for a Mao to grow and be accepted as a full fledged trade member in a Trade and Clan. Learning and mastering skills is also essential if one wishes to strive to be one of the Mingzhi. Learning skills is fun and shows your character is developing.
Each Mao can learn up to 6(8 if started at kitten) skills as an adult. There may be events that allow the learning of additional skills over the regular max.

Earning Skills

Skills are earned through roleplay. In order to learn a skill your Mao must complete a minimum of a 15 post roleplay (with decent posting sizes) with a focus of learning the skill.

-In order to learn a skill, you MUST have somebody teach you. You cannot 'discover' skills by yourself.
-The teacher must already know the skill.
-Only ONE skill may be earned per roleplay, per player.

You're typical/common Mao. They may be common by they are considered pure blooded as they have not been altered by Xuanzyei from Maozhu's original design.

These Mao have feathered wings and have tend to have unnaturally good luck, especially during the thirteenth month. Most Mao view Yune as signs of prosperity and good fortune, when one is born. Others believe they are a sign of misfortune, for they have sucked up all the good into themselves.

Zain possess leathery bat-type wings and are typically haunted by misfortune and bad luck, even more so during the thirteenth month. To the majority of Mao they are a sign of disaster and tragedy. Though some see them as good signs, having taken the burden on themselves.


_Both Yune and Zain are considered to have tainted blood. As such typically have to work harder to earn ranks and become acknowledged by others. Also a love relationship between a Yune/Zain and a normal Mao is looked down, but not forbidden.

A Mao that has reached adulthood is considered ready to further their skills. They are expected to learn the skills of a trade so that they can become productive members of society.

Trade members have learned the skills required and completed the ceremony. After which they are given the privileged to wear/carry items and markings that show their role(trade, clan). They gain new duties within a trade and are expected to strive to better themselves.

Mingzhi(Elder)
Mingzhi are the oldest, wisest Mao. Each has earned their place in the clans and are revered by all. They possess vast knowledge, especially on that of their clan's trade.

-Complete Retirement Ceremony RP.
-Have learned 10 skills and mastered at least 5.
-You may now teach others about the things and skills you have learned.


__Other Stages__

Xuanzyei
The current chosen one of the Maozhu is given this title. No one knows if they change appearances during their time as the Xuanzyei.

-A Xuanzyei is chosen every thirteenth celebration the Shijande. This event will happen once every six months.
-Though there is no way to guarantee your Mao will be chosen to be the next Xuanzyei(since it will be voted/decided on by the staff), there are a few ways that you can make your chances better.
-RP lots. The more we know about your character the better.
-Be active in shop and/or RP. We aren't going to give the title and bonuses to someone who doesn't seem to care.
-Create interesting and fun personalities for your Mao. After all Maozhu its going to choose someone boring.

Biao
Biao are Mao that were formerly Xuanzyei(chosen one). Baio have no memory of their time spent as Xuanzyei. They however have special powers, abilities, and or physical traits that are a gift from the Maozhu for spending thirteen years of their life serving as Xuanzyei.

-Biao can only be obtained by a Xuanzyei that has fulfilled their duties and returned to the earth.
-Meaning that if you have earned the title of Xuanzyei, but don't fulfill your duties before the next Xuyanzyei is chosen you forfeit the right to reach this most revered stage.

Renlei
The result of a Xuanyei's actions, some Mao take on human like features and gain the ability to walk on two legs. Though no one knows how or why this phenomenon occours. It is known that the transformation only takes place on nights of the 13th month.

-Renlei only appear during the 13th month(Shijande). They are rare, but not unheard of.
-Even though they may be awesome and seem amazing. Keep in mind, for RP purposes, that most Mao hate/reject Renlei. Since they have been mixed with the lesser being of the humans.
-To become a Renlei you must have done the following:
--Mao must have been in the shop for 3 months.
--Participated in RP.(Completed 10, 15(moderate sized post) RPs)
--Applied to become one.(This is just so we know you have completed the requirements and would like to have your Mao become a Renlei.

The members of this clan are the healers and spiritualists. They are more knowledgeable about and in tune with nature.

Cayayo Trades

-Healer: Healers are to know all about the Mao body and how to treat it. This includes knowing how to make and use medicines. Though they are the ones in charge of providing medicines they are not expected to develop new medicines. However, many doctors do develop and refine medicines.

-Alchemist: Alchemists dabble in making potions and things for proposes other than healing. Poisons are a specialty among most Alchemists. Though not all are versed in the making of potions. Some dedicate themselves to refining concoctions that already exist. While other focus on crafting items using alchemic processes.

- Seer: Seers are Mao with special talents to see, feel, or understand things that others cannot. Though it is their duty to seek out major threats to the Mao as a whole, they make a living as fortune tellers for other Mao.

-Druid: Druids are in sync with nature. Their role is to balance the Mao with nature. Keeping this balance allows for the Mao to live happily while not disrupting the balance of nature. They monitor how much the Mao's take and ensure that the same amount is returned.

Shudai Clan members are knowledge seekers and givers. Learning, recording and teaching what they know to others.

Shudai Trades

-Record Keeper: The Mao history is important to them and it is the Record Keepers job to record and maintain those records. In addition they are the ones who provide the text and storybooks to the rest of the Mao.

-Researcher: Researchers seek out and study all things that are products of Xuanzyei's actions. They learn all they can about the new things happening around them and share their findings.

-Educator: Educators could also be considered babysitters. They watch over and teach young kittens the basics of life and how society works. Educators teach things from history to the different Clan trades, so that they can become productive members someday. However they are just kittens, so much of an Educator's time is spent watching over them and teaching them how to have a bit of fun.

Zanshi Clan members are fighters. Strength is a must if you intend to bring down your target, whether that be a fellow Mao or a great stag you can't do it without power.

Zanshi Trades

-Hunter: Hunters bring down the game that supports all the Mao. Hunters break down into groups of 3-8 for hunting. Often such units sick together like a family.

-Warrior: The core fighting group. They protect the Villages from any threats. Like wild animals, rouges and occasionally humans. Recently Kuzo and his legion have been the main source of grief for the warriors.

-Spy: Spies are the stealth force of the Zanshi Clan. Their duties ranging from simple scouts to infiltration. Most consider them to be a step above Warriors as they must be strong and stealthy, but that just means they are trained differently.

-Tactician: Tacticians are the brainy fighters, not that others aren't intelligent. Though Tacticians must learn to be fighters, they are the ones who coordinate the members of the other trades to get things done.

Jiang Clan makes things from houses to jewelry. If crafting is your passion you belong here.

Jiang Trades

-Builder: Builders construct larger scale things, like houses. In addition to the original construction Builders provide maintenance for existing buildings.

-Artisan: Artisans have a wide variety of work. They make and provide items such as cloths, furniture, jewelry, and other items. Some items are functional, others just decoration.

-Blacksmith: Blacksmiths mainly provide weapons and armor for Zanshi Clan members. Though they also work metal for other tools and items that are used or needed by other Mao.

Certain animals of the Mao-Zu world are used as companions, pets, aids, ect. These creatures are picked out for their abilities and companionship. Though they do not posses the ability to freely communicate(speak) with Mao they tend to understand most things and have their own ways to 'speak' without words.








Zuri
Zuri are curious, playful creatures. They are typically non-violent but will rise up to fight if attacked or if their 'master' is in danger. Eager and quick learners Zuri make for wonderful assistants.











Xizan
Xizan are territorial and are prone to attacking at the slightest provocation. They are slow witted and easily annoyed, making taming one a difficult, often dangerous task. But if one dose manage to establish supremacy Xizan prove valuable companions. Loyal and physically powerful they are ideal for fighters and workers that must haul/lift heavy things.

-Only adults(trade members, elders, Renlei and Baio ar considered adults) can breed.
-You may only be involved in a breeding once a month.
-Both pets must have different owners.
-Both pets must be of opposite genders. Unless you use an item that allows it to occur.
-Interbreeding the different species is available. Colorists will roll to determine what species/edits kittens will be/have.
-Renlei can only breed with other Renlei. Unless an item is used that allows the breeding to ocour.
-No inter-family breeding.(If there are plot reasons for family members to breed, discuss it with staff)
-Please don't specify or request the appearance of the litter. (If there are plot reasons for identical twins, specific genders, ect. Discuss it with staff)

-Roleplay is required.
-You must establish a relationship. Or at least what lead to the breeding.
-You must have a 'date' rp thread that contains at least 30 posts total, 15 from each participants. It must show their relationship and that they are ready to breed.

Stunting Pill
-A pill created from herbal plants that stunts a Mao's physical growth.

-A pill created from rare herbal plants designed to jumpstart the growth of a Mao whose growth has been stunted for some reason or another. *This typically works for growing permas to adulthood(directly to adult stage). (Ask if you aren't sure it you can use this to grow your perma.)

BelJinzhi(bell-jin-z)
-A strange herb discovered by a Reasearcher. It was discovered that by eating the leaves of this plant a same gender pair was able to breed. The effect isn't permanent and a leaf must be eaten each time a breeding is the desired outcome.
This plant is believed to have been created by a Xyanzyei.

LingshiGeizo
-A potion developed originally to reverse the change a Renlei has gone through and return them to their original form. The best results they have produced is a transformation that last roughly twelve hours before the user reverts back to Renlei form. The desired results were never reached, however, the time frame is long enough to allow a Renlei the opportunity to breed outside of other Renlei.
