So apparently Barney and Friends was considered to be an awful children's program because it didn't address negative emotions. And, a lot of professionals felt that it would lead children to be dismissive, even delude themselves that only happy emotions existed.

Ugh I got caught in a hail storm today while tornadoes were coming back into the county. Man, we are having a tough year of tornadoes!

Apparently the one that just hit and basically leveled half the city beside me was one of the most powerful in tornado recorded history Dx They had to rewrite the scale in 1999 because Oklahoma kept popping out law-defying tornadoes...

Well, I grew up with Batman and X-files XD! And a BOAT LOAD OF HONG KONG TV DRAMA!!!! I watched as much chinese shows as western shows I think.

Don't really care what experts say lmao, I learn more from TV dramas than children's shows hahaha!! And yeah I guess Herb, you can PM me.

Well.. it is a children's show.
I found it interesting though since a lot of children do watch the show. And it's a legitimate concern for parents who are worried about a healthy mental development for their children.

Oooo I have never seen tornadoes before. o3o Malaysia has not much to offer in terms of natural disasters, except maybe flood... which isn't pretty at all. (happened twice to my house)

Hmm, I find it weird that an ADULT criticizing a children's show... when our thinking is so much more different than a child's. I think the more important thing is that a child should not see violent/sexual shows. And learning what is right and wrong. (this is something I pick up in HK dramas) And the consequences of being a bad guy.

I dunno, even as a child, the few times I watched barney, it feel very hollow.

Then there are definitely things I learned from the shows I did watch. I learned about friendship and sticking up for the little guy on Hercules and Xena. Babylon 5 taught me the importance of responsibility. Star Trek gave me a sense of wonder and acceptance.

I do feel like I wouldn't have been able to grasp those notions as quickly if I'd only watched Barney and Teletubbies or even Blue's Clues.

I live on the east coast now, and we never get tornadoes, just hurricanes and the occasional minor earthquake. I reallllly hate earthquakes, even minor ones. They freak me out haha
