The news was devastating. Just when he thought the tragedy was finally over, and that he could look forward to a much more peaceful year, fate decided to give him a reality check. One on the verge of dying and one death, that was all it needed to send the scientist into emotional distress. How many more will the virus affect?
The cure had been injected into Ekundayo when Alex brought her back to the Lab. The Frei was extremely weak then, unable to feed during the entire period of the infection. If Alex didn't found her in time, she would have died within a week, the glow of her rune was so weak that it was difficult to spot even in a pitch black room. However, four full days had already passed since she was given the treatment and she had not shown any signs of waking up yet. Her breathing had returned to normal, so was her blood pressure and heart beat, which means the hydrogen sulfide had already did its job. But Ekundayo remained still, not even so much as a muscle twitch as she laid there quietly on the examination table, which had become her semi-permanent bed for now. She almost looked like the sleeping beauty, waiting for a prince to wake her up. Kyou had managed to set up an IV drip of sorts to help sustain her body, and had ordered the rest of the lab staff to make frequent visits to her. Even if just a little bit, he hoped that the girl's innate ability to feed on emotions would kick in soon. Her rune was showing signs of progress though, as the light grew brighter little by little, day by day. However, she remained in her comatose state, and no one knows how long she will remain like that.
Mouse was no where to be found either. Kyou had paid a visit to her shop, and had witnessed what Alex saw for himself. He had to wonder if the apathy affected Mouse enough to make her permanently abandon this place like this. He had done his best to dispel what remained of Ekundayo's powers, but a faint emotion lingered permanently in the area that refused to go away. People would be able to approach the area without much harm, but when they came close, they will leave and never wish to return.
As for Lucretia, there was no doubt that she had indeed died. Kyou knew this for sure when Zul delivered the ice rose fel essence back to him. It seemed like she was attacked by Ekundayo and was left for dead, judging from Zul's description of her condition then. The ice rose fel essence was placed in a freezer for now because it seems to be dying, not so much as melting but the flower seems to be wilting, its petals shedding ever so slowly. It is probably a side effect to the traumatic separation of the soul and fel essence, the ice rose now couldn't sustain itself without a soul. Kyou had tried to use another soul for the ice rose, catching a cactus plant's soul from Alex's office. But for some unknown reason the ice rose just refused to fuse with the plant's soul. And now Kyou owes Alex a cactus.
Which brings Kyou to the current situation as he sat at his desk, frustrating over the current condition of everything. The scientist's normally neat black hair was disheveled, dark circles framed his eyes as he stared at the report he was working on. There must be a way to save the dying ice rose, Kyou refused to give up just yet. But if it rejected all other soul types, then that means there is only one possibility left. Kyou doesn't have much time left though, as almost half of the rose's petals had already fallen off. And at this moment, he could only think of one person to call for help.
Picking up the phone, he speed dialed the number one, then he waited for an answer. A couple seconds passed before there was a gentle click, then the ever familiar and friendly voice of Jeremy came up. "Jeremiah speaking, how may I help you?"
"Jeremy!" He practically sighed his name, feeling a sense of relieve. "I'm sorry, am I disturbing you?"
"Not one bit." The warm voice said on the other side of the line. "I'm just drinking my afternoon tea, and enjoying some cake. You should totally try these some day! One of my customers made me these black forest cake and they are absolutely delightful!" The elder man chuckled. But the chuckling died a moment later and his voice changed into a more serious tone. "What's the matter boy? Something wrong?"
It was Kyou's time to chuckle, although a little weakly. This man never ceased to amaze the scientist, nothing could escape Jeremy's keen ears. "Yeah, things are not so peachy over here." He said, sorrow creeping into his voice as he spoke. "I need your help."
"I'll do everything I can." There was no hesitation in the elder man's voice, it was firm and kind. And that is why Jeremy is such a dear and reliable friend to Kyou. The scientist couldn't help but smile just a little, knowing that he will always have Jeremy by his side when he needed him. "I know you have a vast connection. I need an owl, as soon as possible! Do you think you can help?"
The was a moment of silence on the other side then, as Jeremy tried to recall if he received any such information. "This is about your Raevan research isn't it? I'm not sure what you want to do with an owl, but I think the exotic pet trade imported some snowy owls lately, I could try and help you get one and send it to you as soon as possible."
Kyou let out a sigh of relief at the news, he could always depend on Jeremy! "Thank you, thank you so much!!"
"Now you owe me a favor." Jeremy said, the joyous tone returning into his voice as he chuckled. "Tea at my place, and delicious cake too. Just bring your appetite over when all of this is over. Then we will have a long chat to catch up."
The man's chuckled was infectious, as Kyou found himself chuckling too. "It's a date! I'll be there... once this is all over." He said the last sentence meaningfully.
