I think what stops little Adriel from becoming fully evil is his sorrow and his guilt-heavy mind.

Adriel tilted his head slightly and took some of the popcorn. "....A snack food? " He popped come in his mouth and chew thoughtfully as he watched the two. "...That's no way to treat a female...." He mumbled between his thoughtful chewing. "....Popcorn taste funny and not a bit like corn...."
