Come ye dragonriders, those of beast and wing
It is time to fly the skies once more,
And listen while your beloved sings.
We will always need you, dragonmen.
Whether hidden or in plain sight.
Please take up your call again dragonmen,
And bond together in Forgotten Flight.

We go by this timeline HERE based on the order of books. We are coming to the end of the 9th Interval into the 10th Pass.

We are currently in the 10th month of what would be the 10th pass. Roughly 250 Turns after the Earthquake at Landing. Give or take a few Turns.

All of Pern was excited. With the help of AIVAS and the dragon riders of Pern, Threadfall would be ending. There would be no more of the destructive creature that terrorized all life across the planet. Instead, there could be prosperity and growth. Riders began to flock south, pleased with the idea that they could receive land and claim their own homestead as the Charter had promised. Many went to Landing, to Paradise River, to Southern (when allowed) and to Monaco to learn new crafts and skills. And for several Turns, life was good. Treaties were hammered out between riders, crafters, and holders. As before, no one group would interfere with others but now with AIVAS technology available to the Holders & Crafters, the need for Riders was only while Thread still fell. And that would be ending in about 20 Turns.

But life has a way of shaking things up when everything seemed to be going well. Literally. About 15 Turns after the great moving of the Red Star and passing of AIVAS, disaster struck. The volcanoes had been active for sometime and it was known that Landing had been built near a fault line. One morning, early in the morning when only a few watch dragons and the whers were still awake, a great Earth Tremor hit. It was as if the Earth rolled and buckled like a baker with a piece of dough. In minutes, the whole landscape was changed.

The shake was felt as far away as Southern Hold and Honshu Weyrhold.

Cove Hold was in shambles as was Monaco. The epicenter was directly between Monaco and Landing.

People were gone. Buildings were gone. Landing was gone. Only a few buildings remained of what was once learning facilities and housing remained. Hundreds died instantly, including riders. Which meant dragon suicides. Entire wings was gone and groups of weyrlings were gone. Hundreds more were missing or injured. AIVAS was once again completely underground, only this time crushed under tons of earth. In Monaco, there was some alert and some riders were able to take to the air. Less lives were lost there but enough that nearly half the Weyr was gone. In Cove Hold, the damage was less massive. Buildings were gone but not as many. Being built up on stilts seemed to help and those who took refuge in those buildings managed to survive. But entire herds of livestock were lost. And in Paradise River, the dolphins had managed to get out a small warning with the bells. Though again, entire herds of livestock were gone and there was a lot of structural damage, not as many buildings or humans lives were lost.

And on top of it all, Thread was still falling. Quickly, the Weyrleaders moved to reorganize and get wings back into flight condition. When records were checked and all accounted for, almost 1000 riders and dragons died from the Shake and injuries related to it and Threadfall. The Weyrleaders quickly convened to help with what rescue efforts they could and recover what technology could be salvaged.

````````````````````````````````````````````
Eventually Pern healed and the seeds of discontent started to grow in dragonman and Holder alike. By now, 40 Turns had passed and Threadfall was truly ended. Holders and Crafters felt that they no longer needed to tithe and support those who had protected them for so long. Backs were turned, insults were hurled and the cracks deepened. Only in a few places did the relationship stay true. Benden, Ruatha, and Telgar asked their dragon riders to stay when all others decided to make the final move south. Some did and some did not. To this day, dragon riders are not common in the Northern Continent.
It took a whole Turn for the dragon riders to make the move to Southern Weyr. Scouting an extinct volcano located in the Azure Sea, it was discovered that Kaiwi Island was a lush, tropical paradise that was perfect for those weary of a fight. Crafters and some minor holders, cotholders had asked to travel as well. Unwilling to give up the connection and ties that had been in place for almost three thousand turns. It was a good thing. Many dragon riders had no idea what skills were needed to survive and soon picked up a craft offered by those willing to help. And soon, Calderra Weyr was a thriving place run by dragon riders and those who chose to make them successful.
Others Holds popped up around Calderra Weyr and soon a trading system was set up. A Candidate who failed to Impress but was a good leader was asked to go to the island to the southeast and form a hold for those who didn't want to stay on Calderra but wanted to have close ties to the Weyr. It was named Gaspar's Island after its founder. Two hundred years passed, give or take, and Pern settled into complacency. Holders, no longer burdened by tithes, grew in greed and excess, allowing growth that sometimes far outweighed the ability to handle it. And for once, Pern had slums. Crafters, meanwhile, turned inward to focus on trying to recapture some lost arts. Papercraft excelled, Plasticscraft faltered and is now a rare item on Pern. On and on it went, with some crafts attaching to others so as not to disappear forever.
Wher handlers and dragon riders worked close together to try to come up with a way to detect Earth tremors and other natural disasters. Whers who were sensitive to such things were bred together to try to get the genes to come through. This lead to Wher handlers creating their own Wherholds and having their own working population.
Yes, all seemed well on the planet of Pern. But just remember to stay still is to flounder. To be lulled is to be passed by. And the Mother Pern does like to shake things up every once in a while.
Gold Dragons
Gold dragons are at the top of the dragon hierarchy. They make up about 1% of the population. Gold dragons are female and the only ones unable to produce a flame. This is because Kitti Ping engineered them to be the reproducers of the group. Gold dragons have the ability to command any dragon, even against their will. However, such actions are frowned upon and can cause said gold and/or her rider to face severe discipline from their fellow gold riders. Golds are also known as queens. They are vary in length from 36m to 45m. They will not get any larger than this! No Ramoths in this shop.
A gold dragon has a mating flight anywhere from twice a year to once every 2-4 years depending on whether Thread is falling or not. It is said that it is in a Gold's biological nature to sense when more dragons are needed and her body responds. In a clutch, there can be anywhere from 10-30 eggs laid (our shop will probably have anywhere from 10-15 eggs available for Impression). After the eggs are laid, a gold will rarely leave except to perhaps feed or sleep.
Thus far, Golds have only Impressed heterosexual women.
Bronze Dragons
Bronze dragons are the second largest dragons. They make up about 2-5% of the population at any given time. Because they are closest in size to gold dragons, they are the ones most likely to catch a gold dragon during a mating flight. They are anywhere from 35-m-42m in length. Bronzes tend to have more a natural leadership ability than other colors, also having some ability to command/strongly suggest to chromatic dragons. They do have the ability to flame with the proper amount of firestone. Because of increased strength, stamina and other physical traits, bronzes riders were normally chosen as wing leaders or wing seconds. Now it is based upon responsibility, attitude, respect and knowledge for both rider AND dragon.
Bronze dragons will Impress to men of any sexuality
Brown Dragons
Sometimes considering the workhorses of the group. Browns make up about 15% of the dragon population. Browns have both the stamina to last an entire Threadfall and the speed (depending on the brown) for flight tactics. Brown dragons are able to flame with the proper amount of firestone. Some brown dragons may have the ability to lead blues and greens depending on the strength of their own personalities and those of their riders. They are anywhere from 30m-40m in length. Browns are able to bred with gold dragons if A) their riders share a bond/attachment or B) the brown & gold are within meters of the same length. Brown dragons, in the past, were often the most logical choice for wing seconds. In this pass, they can be Wing Leaders and the current Weyrleader is a brown rider. Some suggest allowing a brown to fly a gold will result in a smaller clutch but there is no absolute proof in this.
Brown dragons will Impress to men of an sexuality. They will also bond to homosexual women and bisexual women who may lean towards a masculine personality/appearances.
Blue Dragons
Blue dragons are the smallest and most common of the male dragons. They make up about 30% of the dragon population. Blues may range in size anywhere from 25m-32m in length. Blues are nearly as agile as greens but still have enough stamina (the majority of them) to last an entire Thread fall. Blues will only mate with green dragons though they can be affected if a gold is in a Mating Flight. Since Thread hasn't fallen in over two centuries, Blues of this time have the chance to be wing leaders or wing seconds of smaller wings providing both the dragon AND the rider have the personality for it. It takes an exceptional and hard working blue dragon to gain this position. Blue riders often are assigned roles such as Weyrling Master, Candidate Master, can be the personal messenger of the Weyrwoman or Weyrleader, and there are some roles that are simply made for blues...
Blue dragons of this time Impress to men of all sexualities as well as women of all sexualities.
Green Dragons
Green dragons are the smallest of all dragons and are female. They make up 50% of the population and come in the most variety of colors. Green dragons are infertile. This is to keep the dragon population in sort of a checks and balances system. They do, however, rise to make anywhere from 2-4 times a Turn. Ranging from 20m-28m in length, they are chased by males of all colors. Greens also have the ability to chew fire stone and flame. Because of their size, they are the most agile and versatile of dragons in the air, even if they lack the stamina to last an entire Thread fall. In this current Pass, Green dragons and their rides may be assigned as Weyrling Master, Candidate Master, personal messenger for the Weyr and/or its leaders, and other roles created just for greens...
Green dragons will Impress to men of all sexualities as well as women of all sexualities.
Whers resulted from a failed attempt to genetically create more dragons. The creatures were considered ugly and deformed, heavily muscled with wings that were often unable to support them in flight. They were, however, healthy and proved to be useful for certain tasks, such as guarding holds and weyrs. Whers tend to be nocturnal and they are light-sensitive, their vision is infrared. Whers have a variety of personalities but most have a strong defensive nature bred into them. Whers are able to bond with humans, a bond that is weaker than that of a dragon and it's rider, but stronger than the bonds firelizards have with their humans. After the first great and devastating earthquake, there have been attempts at breeding whers to be especially sensitive to weather patterns and shifting plates within the earth - the hope being that any future disasters could be predicted early enough for safety plans to be implemented. These days, whers are used for a wide variety of jobs and there are high expectations upon the sort of workload they and their handlers should accomplish. This has begun to create friction and resentment within the ranks of the wherhandlers.
Firelizards (also known as flits) are a native Pernese species that was present before the colonization of Pern. In fact, Firelizards provided the genetic base for the creation of the original dragons. Firelizards come in the same colors that dragons do, and anyone may impress any number of firelizards. To impress a firelizard, all you have to do is be present when they hatch, and feed them. Firelizards do not communicate as clearly as dragons do, but they can communicate telepathically through images. Firelizards are reactive to the emotions of those around them and it is thought that they might have some sort of group consciousness. Gold firelizards are fertile, and they seem to be a very prolific species. In our timeline, most people have a firelizard or two, they are extremely popular as pets and companions.
HATCHINGS
A hatching is a cause for great celebration, an opportunity for candidates young and old to stand upon the hatching stands and be one of those oh-so-lucky few to be chosen by a dragon. Hatchings will be announced well in advance, and take place in three steps:
1. Sign up for the hatching using a character that has been pre-approved in our guild. You may have as many candidates participating as you wish, so long as you can keep up with the roleplay required during the event itself. Your character does not have to be an official candidate to impress a dragon, but they MUST be approved and they MUST be signed up in the official hatching signup thread.
2. If your character(s) is an official candidate, participate in the Touching rp. This is not strictly mandatory, and any character who hopes to impress but is not a formal candidate may not participate in the touching. This stage is an opportunity for candidates to feel the basic presence of the dragons within the eggs. The touching also gives the shop staff the opportunity to review the candidates and get a clearer idea of your own roleplay ability and literacy.
3. Attend the Hatching. This event is done through roleplay, and dragons and candidates will have been matched by the staff prior to the start of this RP. If we have matched your character with a dragon, but you are not at least minimally present in the hatching RP, there is a chance that the dragon will not impress at all.
Important things to remember: This is the ONLY way to obtain a baby dragon, and therefore obtain all three stages of lineart. Dragon personalities are pre-determined and you will have no prior knowledge of whether or not you will impress or what color dragon your candidate will impress to. It is a total surprise, which is part of the reason hatchings are one of the most beloved events in any Pern roleplaying group. Hatchings are entirely free.
CONTESTS
Forgotten Flights will hold several contests for both pre-made and custom dragons, and each contest will have its own set of rules and guidelines. The majority of dragons that will be made available through contests will be important to the overall plot of the shop and are likely to have special positions within the hierarchy of the shop and may or may not have pre-defined personalities. This means that contest dragons will most often be roleplay required, and Forgotten Flights reserves the right to NPC or kill-off any roleplay required dragon if it's player is not meeting activity requirements.
Keep an eye out in the guild and in the first post of this thread for links to any current contests. Contests are entirely free.
THREAD GIVEAWAYS
At any time, a member of the Forgotten Flights staff may decide to hold a mini-contest or just give away stuff for fun! This can include firelizards, whers and pre-made adult dragons. None of these characters will have pre-defined personalities, so it will be up to you to make it up yourself!
It costs nothing to participate in these giveaways, and you do not have to have a pre-approved character to win. However, once you do win, if you wish to roleplay your dragon / firelizard / wher, you will need to create a character profile and post it in the guild for approval.
AUCTIONS
Auctions will occur very rarely, and will be for Gaia gold. Auctions will always be for custom dragons, usually custom hatchlings.
