leaves, and gaze upon the things they left behind. Nourished by the magic of the Four Winds, these lands have known peace for countless decades.
Yet every so often unicorns look at the great ruins of the Ancients and wonder not only what destroyed them, but whether it might happen again...

4.12.2015 — Eidolon is hiring! We're looking for at least 2 colorists and 1-2 breeding colorists. Colorists are strictly for coloring adult unicorns to giveaway or sell. Breeding colorists are strictly for coloring breedings. One user may be both though.

General rules

• Respect other members at all times and try your best to have a positive attitude! Drama and whining will not be tolerated.
  
• Make sure you've read over the front page of the shop and all relevant links before asking a question in-thread.
  
• Please avoid using post formats/styles that include images or quotes. They can detract from the visibility of staff announcements!
  
• As always, do not steal shop art or alter it without Quaji or Umbrology's permission. Violators will be devoured by madness, etc etc.

• Pets here are not RP-required, but roleplaying will grant you some pretty awesome perks!

About unicorns
Unicorns are the most advanced beings in Eidolon now that Ancients are presumably extinct. They are intelligent, with a fairly thorough grasp of mathematics, astronomy, and even writing, able to scratch basic runes on the surface of wood or stone with their horns. As some unicorns can use their magic to manipulate and craft items, they also possess a fairly significant and developed material culture. In general unicorns are peaceful (some might say hedonistic) creatures with a strong appreciation for beauty and intellectual pursuits, but unicorn culture varies wildly by herd, and warlike, territorial unicorns are not unheard of, especially in the harsher regions of Eidolon. Unicorns reach complete physical maturity as early as 3-4 years of age but can live upwards of a hundred years, especially if they are powerful magic users.

Gifts of the Four Winds
The Four Winds carry magic across Eidolon, and the Wind that is blowing on the day a unicorn is born determines which of the eight magical gifts he or she is likely to receive. Many unicorns attempt to time the season in which they give birth in the hopes of influencing their foals' chances of receiving a particular gift. You can read more information about magic here!

Winged unicorns
Legends suggest that contact with a strange Ancient artifact somehow caused the first winged foals. Unicorns with wings are rare and do not have full powers of flight, as their wing-to-body ratio is inadequate to completely support them. They are still able to glide down from hills and cliffs, however, which can be a very valuable ability in certain parts of Eidolon. Winged unicorns are known to be significantly more fragile than other unicorns, likely due to a lower bone density resulting in a lighter weight.

Eidolon is a beautiful yet haunting world scattered with the remnants of a mysterious, long-dead people whom unicorns refer to as the
Ancients. Their massive, breathtaking ruins are found regularly across the landscape, and their enormous constructs—living statues
covered in moss and sometimes even trees—still wander across the vast Cloud Plains as if lost, their original purposes long forgotten.

The Cloud Plains
The rolling plains of Eidolon, clothed in wildflowers and wind, seem to stretch without end in every direction. Dramatic clouds constantly billow across the horizon, and at night the stars transform the sky and winding Ley River into tapestries of light. Great crumbling Ancient constructs, shaped like strange beasts, wander across the landscape.

Ashbough Forest
Ashbough trees are named for their pale, silvery-white bark. The magic infusing this forest causes it to be autumn almost year round, except for a brief period during winter when the ashboughs shed their golden leaves to create a gilded carpet on the ground. The forest is interspersed with small meadows, mossy streams, and delicate marble ruins.

The Foothills
Rainy and often shrouded in mist, the foothills of the Glass Mountains are possessed of a melancholy beauty found nowhere else in Eidolon. The rugged, sometimes treacherous terrain is dotted with numerous stone ruins. Since the foothills grow very cold during the winter and are home to large predators, only hardy unicorns choose to live here.

The Lanternwood
The Lanternwood is Eidolon's oldest and largest forest. Its trees are huge and gnarled, and so little light reaches the forest floor in some places that nothing grows on it but mushrooms and rich carpets of moss. Mysterious lanterns hang from tree branches in the deepest parts of the wood, said to be placed there by secretive forest sprites.

The Agate Coast
Though strikingly lovely from a distance, the ocean's slick, rocky shores and plummeting coastal cliffs can easily prove injurious to inattentive unicorns. Herds who live here tend to value surefootedness and agility out of necessity. Their bravery is rewarded with occasional glimpses of the mysterious singing leviathan constructs of the Agate Sea.

Mysterious Ancient artifacts can be found scattered across Eidolon, especially near ruins.
Some of them glow faintly or emit strange humming sounds...



Artifacts are used as a form of shop currency. They can be discovered through roleplay or won during games and
events, and are traded in for a variety of rewards such as extra foals in breedings, magic skill-ups, and familiars.

Familiar constructs are much smaller versions of the giant Ancient constructs that wander around Eidolon. They originate from special
types of artifacts that react to the presence of unicorn magic. When a unicorn activates one of these artifacts, it generates a familiar that is
permanently bonded to that unicorn; it will obey his or her orders without question and act as a tireless companion and protector. However,
artifacts do not respond to everyone who encounters them. Activating one seems to require a certain amount of magical resonance…
