Welcome to Dream Dancers. Herein are beautiful Stars who have fallen to Earth. What are the Stars? Where did they come from? What are they like? How can I get in on this?

So many questions~! This is a fantasy horse shop, based around a race of beings known as "Stars" from a parallel world called Dreamspace. They may have Fallen to this world by accident, but they're making this world their own.

11.1 Whoohoo, everyone, the shop's reopening/Halloween event is OVER~! Winners of event-long things can be found on pages 116 through 120. Thank you all SO much~! We homed around 50 pets, an all-time record for us, sold over 60k tickets for the paid raffle, another all-time record for us, had auctions ending at at least 15mil, yet another all-time record for us, and have generally seen a level of workmanship, interest, friendly competition, and excitement that has completely floored us on all sides, despite any bumps in the road that occurred. Please read the front page of the shop and informative pages and subforums of the guild.
This shop has a setting that we take seriously, and put effort into writing up. The colorists do a lot of work, too, and have a certain amount of input on the setting, as well. Please, read through everything you can. We welcome people, both in shop thread and guild, and people do like having a fun time!
Do not steal the lineart or the pets.
Should not have to be said. Please respect the people who have spent time and effort creating these pets. Some pets may take not very long to make, but many take several hours, even days, for our artists to create. Please, respect the effort they have put into this.
Treat people how you want to be treated.
This is the so-called Golden Rule of social behavior in most human societies. Practically every prophet, messiah, good god, and suchlike has said this for thousands of years. Would you want to be talked to rudely, insulted, belittled, ignored, mistreated, etc? Odds are, nobody else around you wants that to happen to them, either.
If you have a problem, PM the mule, or post in the Suggestions Threads in the guild.
If you have a problem with someone else, take a deep breath, calm down, and try to talk it out with the other person first. If it's a problem with the shop, please take it up in a PM to the shop mule, or in a post in the Suggestions Threads in the guild. If it doesn't get immediately to the right staffer, or doesn't immediately get attention, please be patient. We'll make sure it gets to the right person and gets attention as soon as possible.
Please don't whine or beg.
Everyone would like a pet, generally speaking. After all, this IS a shop~! Some of the people who have extra Stars to home have people they like working with, plots in mind, and sometimes other considerations to take seriously. If you get lucky, YAY, HUZZAH~! If not, well, there's next time, keep plugging away at it, and I'm sure you'll get lucky sooner or later. After all, sometimes, colorists do stuff for newbies and lowbies, and there is ALWAYS plotting and RPing with the winner(s).

Please don't do this. The staff puts serious work into each pet they do, thought is put into how we home the pets, and getting demanding and whiny isn't nice or respectful or fair to those around you.

Not everyone can read it very well, and it can be difficult enough to read chatspeak, too. Not all of our staffers speak English natively, and the same goes for our customers. Please respect that, and try to use the best English you can. Humor in chatspeak and l33tsp34k is fine, generally everyone loves a good laugh from time to time. But reading that all the time isn't quite as much fun.

No problem! Some say there's no such thing as a stupid question; I'll point out that if you're asking questions at all, it means you're interested in and care about all of this~! Once, all the Stars lived in Dreamspace. It was their homeworld, their world of origin. We know very little of Dreamspace, only what the Stars say. But it was quite probably a world of magic and myth. We do know that it is not in this universe; it is in a parallel universe, unreachable by normal means. Even the Stars who live here now cannot go back by their own power.

The Stars living here have Fallen and had families here with others who have Fallen. They may not be of this world, but they still call it home. After all, home is where the heart is, and while Dreamspace may be their true homeworld, it is not a place they can return to.

What caused the Stars to Fall, how long ago, and where was it? It is not known how long Stars have Fallen, but there has been a hole at Sirius Point in Dreamspace for quite a long time, maybe even since the dawn of time. It has, however grown dramatically and frighteningly due to unknown recent events in this world. Few, if any at all, remember any sense of where Sirius Point was, but it appears to be a moot point, anyway, as there is no returning to Dreamspace, whether by Sirius Point or any other place. Nothing further is known of the cause of the current catastrophe, which is known only as the Great Starfall, as such a long and extensive event has never happened before.

One night, the stars began to fall. These were no mere stars, but horses, beings from another world entirely that had somehow accidentally fallen through a tear in their world and crash landed on this new earth. But what was this new earth?

In a world so long gone it has been forgotten from history, there was treachery. The dominant species of the planet, Homo sapiens, had covered the earth like a plague, destroying and polluting their own non-renewable resources and creating a population that was close to the tipping point. So dense was the population that it was not uncommon for one to murder their brother, for just a little more space. Starvation was a worldwide epidemic.

Calamity struck the humans. While they began to fight and slaughter each other for space and resources, a powerful entity had crept into their world, and, with power and ability never before seen and only heard of in myths and legends, the humans were completely decimated. Their civilizations crumbled into dust. The entity was in control now.

Knowing they could do nothing with a planet nearly devoid of life, they had to sit back and wait for millions of years to pass while nature recovered. Some humans had survived, and through the years, had evolved to adapt to their surroundings. They were now a race of diminutive creatures, no taller than four feet, and knew nothing of their ancestry, or of the world before.

Such creatures as the Falling Stars had never before been seen by the small folk, as they came to be known as by the small folk. The small folk regard the Stars as mighty and noble creatures, and are more than happy to create clothing and jewelry in their honor. The Stars had no idea of where they were, and the small folk weren't exactly able to give them an answer they all agreed upon. They did know, however, that they would never be able to return to their home world; Dreamspace.

As time progressed, each Star began to like their new home, and continued their lives as they always had. They created herds to socialize and find protection in, formed alliances and enemies. Over time, stars began to fall from other worlds, some of them taking the forms of the Stars who had already Fallen. It seemed the very fabric of the universe was torn in several places, a powerful magic cast over the world so that any creature that fell to it would become an equine. Some Stars had memory of their homeworlds and old lives, others did not.

One thing they held in common was their belief in the Great Star Council. Beings of immense power, they were thought to be the oldest, wisest, and most powerful of all the Stars and were thought to be deities. They had been in Dreamspace since the beginning, but had left, feeling it was time to move on. Before leaving, they left 13 of the mightiest herd leaders in charge of watching over their beloved Stars, gifting them with supernatural abilities such as fire, water, air, and earth. Belief in the Great Star Council is chiefly held in the older stars, while the younger generations subscribe more to the belief of the 13 herd leaders, referred to as the Signs due to their names being that same as those of the zodiac.

The entity responsible for the destruction of this world seems to still lie in wait, but for how much longer? Are their plans beginning to come to fruition? The Signs are nowhere in sight, the Stars are vulnerable, and it is only a matter of time...

Stars, being social animals, live in herds, a fact which appears to predate the Great Starfall. The size and nature of these herds varies widely, as one would expect in a sentient species of any sort. Most of these herds have a fixed territory they all live in. A few, however, are nomadic, and wander a generalized region which does overlap with other herds.

However, within the founding of the first three herds of this world, a war began between the two oldest herds in this place. With the foundation of more herds, alliances, wars, neutral herds, nomadic herds...many types of herds with different relationships to other herds have cropped up. Sagas, songs, and poems are being composed, armor and weapons forged, art created, trade begun, matings consummated, murder and havoc and battles waged and wreaked. In other words, a normal, albeit complex world.

New herds appear all the time, and herds are usually open to new members. Check them out~! Herd RPs and plots form one of the shop's two metaplots, and is almost exclusively conducted regardless of staff or reg status. All the cards are on the table, and more are being added all the time...will you add more cards to this table?

Most stars are fully grown, but strangely the species have adapted to our worlds environment and are happy enough to breed! Thus, both genders go through adolescence starting as a foal.

Stars initially manifest themselves as spirits that grow in strength, but are unable to take physical form. When the young spirit is at full strength, it changes into the physical figure of a foal. This stage is very awkward and playful. They prance around with their mother and suckle like all young mammals do.


As they continue to grow they venture into the yearling stage. They become attracted to the opposite gender and become more independent, straying away from family, and usually venturing into herds of their own, though some do stay all their lives in the herd they were born into.


Finally the young teenager has become an adult. Their mother is able to breed again as she has 'let go' of her previous foal. The adult can now breed as well, they have reached their 'final' stage in life and focus on living it up to the fullest!


Some lucky Stars reach the stage also known as 'Elders;' these stars are able to control certain elements. This stage is very restricted, gained only in RP. Some Stars physically achieve the shape of an Elder, without gaining any power, through auctions, bribes, and founding/leading a herd. More information can be found here.


While there are no stages beyond the Elder stage, there are a limited number of beings with more power than the Elders. These are the Signs, Stars who rose to godhood many long ages ago. Not all Stars worship them, but it's not uncommon. They are the ones who grant power to the Elders, as well as markings to show their blessings. Rumors say that at least one Sign has appeared on Earth...but if one has come to Earth...it is by free will...and portends for significant, quite probably dangerous, events in the relatively near future....

There are many species of the Star born. Each species is related to the Stars in some way. An image of each breed will be added as they are seen.


Starborn

The Starborn are perhaps the most common of all Stars, but certainly the simplest. They tend to be the most diverse in personality, some claim, but stories may not always be as simple as they seem.

What is true is that Starborn are the least gifted of breeds. They have no wings, spines, spikes, sharp teeth, fins, horns, or any hoof that is not a solid equine hoof. They possess no magic of their own until they reach RP elderhood and thus blessed by one of the 13 Signs or other godlike figures in Star mythology. This magic, however, is also bestowed on other breeds. It may not seem sufficient recompense for seeming the least of all Stars, but the Starborn still hold a beloved place in the world of Dream Dancers. Some of them are, after all, to be found amongst the greatest and most famous of all Stars.


Arcturus

The Arcturai are another common breed, argued by some to be the most common, but that is, as ever, a matter up for debate. Most often, stories portray an Arcturus as being wise and kind and pure. That is, as in the case of any tales of any breed's personality, a matter for debate.

The Arcturai are unified by a single horn emerging from their forehead, spiraling or straight or curved or even in corkscrews, and a delicate beard growing from the stallion's chin. Many have cloven hooves and lion-like tails. They are among the breeds who possess magic before reaching RP elderhood. Their magic is in the form of some amount of healing magic, though they do not possess the power to heal the dead. As is so often the case of Stars who are not yet at RP elderhood, their power grows from a very low level to the ability to heal great wounds with use and experience over time. Even at RP elderhood, or even godhood, no Arcturus has ever been known to raise the dead, and it is considered completely impossible, even by the 13 Signs, or so say the tales.


Lyra

The Lyra are somewhat less common than the Arcturai or Starborn, though they are no less respected. Stories treat the Lyra as a generally good and spirited sort, though also great travelers, too.

The Lyra only have one defining trait, in the form of at least one pair of beautiful bird wings sprouting from their backs. Some may possess two pairs of bird wings, but three pairs of Lyra wings has never, ever been heard of. Like the Starborn, they possess no magic, but, perhaps due to their wings, they are respected by many herds as travelers, messengers, airborne warriors, and in general for their gift of flight. They are not the only Stars in the skies, but they are one of them.


Solara

The Solara are not one of the more common breeds, perhaps due to their own personalities and tendencies. Many tales, which seem to have a surprising level of frequency, for once, paint the Solara as an antisocial, proud breed that tend to favor other Solara over the other breeds. They are not necessarily evil in the stories, but they are not naturally the friendliest of Stars, either.

The Solara are some of the most physically recognizable of all Stars, especially the "pure" ones, depending on a debatable definition. Such Solara have a line of spikes along their spines, no mane, a draconic tail, great draconic wings, spikes along the upper edge of their shoulders, and spiked webbing behind their ears. Some Solara have manes without being considered "impure." As noted above, the Solara do tend to care more about the appearance of their breed more than others, a fact most stories actually get right. Beyond their ability to fly, Solara have the magic to breathe smoke and manipulate their own smoke into different shapes, colors, and even scents, sometimes recreating great moving tapestries of smoke. There are a few tales of contests between Solara to find the best smoke magician. Solara do NOT have the ability to fire, except for Fire-aligned RP elders, despite the periodic, fairly hysterical tale.


Arion

The Arions are a notably less common breed, some say very rare, indeed, though this is not necessarily true. There are as many tales of them being whimsical beings as tales of them being quiet, dignified ones.

The Arions are unified by a pair of wings, as is the case of the Lyra, but instead of bird wings, they possess insect wings. Some also possess insect antennae, but not all do. Like the Arcturai, they possess some magic of their own. The magic of the Arions is in size-shifting. They may shrink to the size of a butterfly, or grow to their normal size, though they may not get any bigger, as their wings cannot support an Arion at a larger size, even if they could enlarge themselves beyond their normal size. Not even the Arions among the 13 Signs can enlarge themselves.


Nova

The Novae are at least as uncommon as the Arion, though this may be due to their shyness, where the Arion's rarity may be partly due to their ability to shrink in size. Novae do tend to be shyer in the stories, but there are many tales of tricksters and pirates, too.

The Novae are biologically rather different from other Stars, with fins instead of hind legs and forelegs ending in a solid mass, rather than a hoof. Novae live their whole lives in the water, spending time ashore only long enough to give birth. Beyond their aquatic/marine nature, they possess no other magic of their own, except for a specific kind detailed below.

Genie Nova

No one knows where the genies came from or much about them, really, beyond the famous legends of their bonds to lamps, bottles, and other hollow objects, as well as their magic. Their magic is perhaps what they are most famed for.

The genies resemble a Nova very closely, and are believed to descend from Novae due to some sort of magical accident not remembered. The principal differences begin with the fact that a genie is more a creature of the air and household objects, than a creature of the water; and that genies have a tail closely resembling smoke. Genies are bound to a bottle or lamp that is their home, as marked by metal bands on their forelegs above where the hoof should be; some say that, if a genie is wished free from their magic, a genie is no longer bonded to their home and may even lose the bands on their legs, though these stories are up for serious debate, if not being outright severely doubted by the foremost scholars of genie lore. What is apparently true is that a genie has the power to grant wishes for others, not themselves. However, as is the case of other magic-wielding Star breeds and types, the power of the genie grows with experience over time, from one very minor wish in a great while, to doing great wishes, within a range of limitations the genies apparently have on their magic, that seems also codified, to some extent. Genies cannot: Make people fall in love; Bring people back from the dead; or Grant more wishes. Genies as a moral general rule of thumb WILL not: Kill people. Some genies will kill, but most appear to have a moral rule against it that may be powerfully binding.


Algiedi

The Algiedi are an increasingly common breed, though still uncommon. Despite what has become known as an unusually close ancestral connection to the Arcturai, the Algiedi as a group tend to be portrayed as bad-tempered, even grumpy and anti-social, as well as clever tricksters who enjoy a good joke. These stories, as in the case of the Solara, seem to be unusually commonly true.

The Algiedi share a common ancestor with the Arcturai, as can be seen by their cloven hooves, unusual tails, and horns. However, that's where the similarities end. Algiedi have a proper pair of horns/antlers (though some antlered Stars claim Arcturus blood instead, as can be observed through possession of healing magic, and may instead be throwbacks to the common ancestors of Algiedi and Arcturai) and cloven hooves. Some sport a horse's mane and tail, while others may be maneless and have a goat's tail. Both sexes sport a beard. Unlike the Arcturai, the Algiedi possess no magic of their own.

Alcor

The Alcors are a strange breed of unknown commonality, some say not a proper breed at all. Some say their personalities are closest to the personalities of the Novae because the Alcors, the Novae, and the genie Novae may share common stock, though this is a vastly discredited notion, and at any rate, stories seldom agree about any Alcor, unless speaking of the same subtype of Alcor.

An Alcor may appear to be any other sort of Star, as they have a special type of magic that is the unifying marker of the Alcor. Alcors are shapeshifters, and, unlike any other type of magic, Alcors are proficient in shapeshifting from an early age. Many Alcors and Alcor types wear pelts that match their appearance when shapeshifted, though some do not, therefore negating any unifying factor that would automatically identify the Alcors to an outside observer. It doesn't help that non-Alcors may also wear pelts. The eventual result is that Alcors are poorly known by scholars, though more factual knowledge can be found and posted here.

Companions or Familiars are mini pets that accompany your star. They're cute and great in roleplay! Companions are, until further notice, unavailable, as there is no lineart for them at all.

Like customs, and familiars in other shops, these familiars have special custom slots. Some may be offered during events, too. Information and slots pertaining to them can be found in the subforum of the guild for mini-shops.

Breeding works the same here as in other shops. As of right now the amount of babies a couple can receive is based on a lot of factors.

1. If they're lifemated or just a fling.
2. If they're Rped or Herded.
3. If they're Elders.
4. If they're owned by the same person or separate people.


Foals can be anywhere from 1-6 based on these factors.


Same sex couples are allowed to breed!
As well as species are allowed to breed with other species with no limit.
Right now we also do not have a limit on how many times your Star can breed; this could change in the future.

Like many other sentient species, the Stars love their shiny, pretty ornaments. While they may pick up some from the ruins of human civilization, they've started more actively experimenting in the creation of their own.


We have a range of very common items that can be bought and edited onto your Star. These include, jewelry, little rosettes, tail bows, ribbons, and beautiful sleeves, but also include things like a helmet for the stallions.


These items can be acquired in item shops in the mini-shops subforum of the guild, just like the familiars. In fact, they can even be found in the same shops! As at other shops that offer items, we have slots for the acquisition of these items. These shops may not be opened yet, but please keep an eye out, and enjoy them~!
