Metaplot Part 3: Quarantine

This was not your normal hatching celebration. The Weyrwoman of High Reaches holding a feast in honor of the Weyrwoman of Telgar? The times sure were changing! --Or, maybe not. The tables were not without gossip it was all one big slap in the face to Iva, who had been invited as well. Every High Reaches rider, young or old, was made to attend.

Many of the more seasoned riders fawned over or criticized those who had Impressed Dorath's latest clutch; they asked many questions about how their lessons were going, how their dragons were doing and so on. The dragons themselves had all become too large to partake in the feasts except through the link shared with their riders.

Luci sat in the center of the front table before anyone, with Malkai to her left and Iva to her right. Amelia was on Malkai's other side; D'astel sat contently at Iva's. Not a typical arrangement, no, but this event was nothing if not unusual.

Jilis brought a tray of the finest food and drink for the Weyrwomen, Weyrleaders and Wingleaders. Ten minutes of chatter later, Luci lifted her glass only to have it taken from her by the steady hand of her favorite bronzerider--not that she'd gladly admit it. Iva had been led away to another table by a bluerider from Telgar, one of the few who had left their home Weyr.

"Weyrwoman, have you noticed P'ren keeps gazing at our dear Julis?" D'astel asked as he took Iva's seat. The contents of Luci's stolen drink swirled around before he took a generous gulp. "I wonder if there's a reason he didn't Impress to a bronze."

"You're ridiculous," said the Weyrwoman.

"And this drink is unsuitable for you. This can't be the rest our Headwoman and cooks can do." None the less, he drank until there was not a drop left. "I'll send for better." D'astel rose and vanished into the kitchen.

Aside from the questionable quality of the drink (though no one else had any complaints), things were going surprisingly well. No fist fights, no shouting matches. Luci was busy discussing potential gold candidates for Telgar's new clutch when one of the head chef's underlings fled into the main hall. "Weyrwoman Luci! It's the Weyrleader! He's fallen!"

"Everyone be quiet!" Luci demanded, and her dragon's voice was soon to echo her:

Hush!

The people of the kitchen saw everything. D'astel had, literally, just fallen over. One minute he was talking, the next he was holding his chest and throat, then down he fell. Healers were called in and everyone was shooed out of the room save the unconscious Weyrleader, the High Reaches Weyrwoman, the healers and Wingleader H'pez.

It was an agonizing ten minutes before anyone returned to the dining hall. Luci stepped out, on her face a look more serious than that which she had worn during Jounoth's rampage, and she demanded: "Be quiet everyone!"

Hush! Dorath echoed.

"I am instructing everyone not to panic." Instructing, because she couldn't very well demand they stay calm with what she was about to say. "The plague may have returned." The uproar was expected, and soon followed by an actual roar from both the Weyrleader's bronze and Weyrwoman's gold. "Quiet! Quiet! All the riders will stay in here, and the other Weyrfolk are to assemble in the kitchen. We will be staying put until further notice."

"You're quarantining us?!"

"How long are we going to be stuck here?!"

"What about our dragons?!"

"Is the Weyrleader dying?!"

Two more roars, followed by many others from anxious dragons, and Luci raised her voice as well. "QUIET! Everyone! Quiet! Listen to me! H'pez has already sent for the son of Yalin, the man who cured this plague once before! Here's what's going to happen: he will come in and examine everyone, and determine if anyone has caught it. If so, we'll go from there. Until then, yes, we will be quarantined in an attempt to keep things under control. Wingleaders guard the door. All the non-riders into the kitchen. Now."

OOC Notes

- Every High Reaches rider is now quarantined.

- Workers who were present at the feast are now quarantined in the kitchen. Note: For a worker to be present, they must have had some relevant job that allowed them to be there. A tailor would not be present, a cook would. If anyone is confused as to what qualifies as acceptable to be present feel free to ask.

- No Telgar riders except the goldriders and some NPC riders were present.

- Those who are quarantined can not get in or out of the dining hall / kitchen. Wingleaders are guarding the doors and have the most training in Kick Your a**, and they will, you know, kick your a** if you try to leave.

- Everyone outside the quarantine has caught wind of what's going on and are free to freak the ******** out IC.

- Everyone at Telgar has also been informed and are also free to a) freak and b) get pissed their Weyrwoman is being quarantined.

- If you have an RP set before the quarantine, you are more than welcomed to finish it.

- IC-wise, this will take a bit over 24 hours. OOC, we will give everyone three days to RP counting today. (Time subject to extend if need be.)

- Riders who are quarantined can RP here!

- Non-riders who are quarantined can RP here!

Where would a candidate who had been left behind on the sands at the last hatching be in all this?
Would she be working along with the drudges?

I think that would be a yes; candidates to all sorts of chores to earn their keep. I think it would be possible that she'd have been helping in the kitchens at the time, or waiting tables or something, but I'm not utterly certain ^^
