Hallo Chrys~ ;O <3

Friendly Conversationalist

howl's moving castle lost its magic for me after i read the book. i knew OF the book before i saw the movie, read bits of it when i was young, but after finally reading it? didn't care for the movie at all. pretty visuals though~

i think.. kiki's delivery service and porco rosso are my favorites, if i have to think about it. :> i would say whisper of the heart, but miyazaki didn't direct that one (only storyboarded it). whisper of the heart is my favorite ghibli film though, hands down.

and although pre-studio ghibli, i love castle of cagliostro. <3 another favorite film of mine.

I think Spirited Away was my introduction to Miyazaki which is probably why I love it all the more.
I saw Spirited Away when I was like, thirteen. o:
Second Miyazaki film, perhaps?
I saw Kiki when I was a wee thing. x___x

What are the differences between movie!Howl and book!Howl?

Friendly Conversationalist

in the book, howl is much more immature, self-absorbed, childish (with his good points coming out at poignant moments). so basically he's what they were trying to imply he was like in the movie, but instead he just came across as "LOL I'M ECCENTRIC AND DO WHAT I WANT~"

sophie saw the biggest difference between book and movie i think. also markl was a teenager (and named michael - part of me thinks the fact he's called markl was a translation error on disney's part XD), and sophie's sisters (she has two in the book) had a much, much larger role.

the characters in the movie were really, really watered down. XD so yeah, while the movie is entertaining, after you read the book it's just not the same. nice to look at but the characters fall flat. i recommend the book to everyone though, it's really an excellent read.
