5/7/12 - And the grand opening returns with a new raffle! The theme? Eye-burningly-bright colors (if you could call that a theme.)
5/6/12 - The thread's gotten yet another overhaul. Kind of a silly pseudo-classy 70s wallpaper theme, but I think it works! The grand opening event will resume shortly!
4/13/12 - Grand opening event on now!
4/8/12 - New line-art! The migration thread will open soon for those interested in getting their existing salamanders re-done on the new lines!
4/7/12 - Well, the line-art issues have been fixed. Thanks everyone for your input, and here's to a great new start for the shop!
4/3/12 - The thread's gotten a face-lift! Just one step closer to our grand opening event!
3/30/12 - We've been moved to the B/C forum! Looks like it's time to get a grand opening event a-rollin'.
3/24/12 - Free breeding raffle on p.121 - grab a partner and sign up!

3/22/12 - Sorry for the long absence. We'll be back with more dice games and semi-custom options soon!
              2/12/12 - Dice games everywhere!
2/11/12 - The interest thread is live! Here's to building some kind of community... thing!

You don't know how you came across it, or why you're so fascinated by it.

"It" is an old Winnebago-type RV built in the 60s or 70s, from the looks of it. A vintage vehicle, sitting in the middle of a forest - utterly corroded. It's got some evidence of once-fashionable tail fins and a coat of what you guess was once metallic yellow paint.

Next to the decrepit vehicle are two signs - if you could call them that - each consisting of a piece of weatherbeaten plywood and some deep red marker. "DO NOT COME CLOSAR" and "IF U DONT GET OFF MY PROPORTY ULL BE SHOT!"

Despite the mildly foreboding presence of these two pieces of wood, the place seems deserted. A sizable tree has fallen on top of the old vehicle, causing the roof to cave in at a sickening angle, and nobody could possibly live there. More troubling, perhaps, is the constant sound of splashing coming from within, as if someone's left the water on.

You jerk the door open and are blinded by a mildewy aroma, the likes of which speaks of years of neglect. Phew. You stand in the doorway for a few minutes, waiting for the crushed metal contraption to outgas. Upon your first glance inside, you notice that the floor is strewn with broken glass and empty acrylic frames. Dead, rotting plants fill every nook and cranny. Paper is shredded all over the floor, the rear windows are either broken to unrecognizable pieces or boarded up - and there's this brown, syrupy liquid dribbling down the front steps, pooling at your feet.

Okay, so you've wandered into an abandoned, backwoods RV surrounded by threatening, poorly-written signs, and lived to tell the tale. Case closed - time to leave…

              And then, something moves.

It looks like a lizard at first glance - but no, it's too vibrant and sluggish.

              A salamander. It's a salamander.

Something else moves. Then something else.

You look down. You look up. In spaces, the floor appears to be moving.

Oh dear God. The motorhome is full of salamanders.

The broken glass must have once formed vivariums to hold them in, but now, free of their glassy prisons, these little inhabitants have completely overrun every inch of the vehicle's interior. The once-intact cages overflow with water, the sink has turned into a nesting ground filled with floating clusters of eggs, and every possible surface is covered in animals of all sizes and colors.

So… what to do? Well, you suppose you could take some with you and contact the local authorities to get these things… tagged and registered… is that what they do for lost salamanders? Some of them might be endangered species. So why not just swipe a few? You never know - you could sell them to a pet store or breed them or something.

              Let the adventure begin.

NO BEGGING, WHINING, OR AUTOTOMY BY ANY HUMAN (H. SAPIENS) INDIVIDUAL WILL BE TOLERATED. There are many resources available that can direct you to the basics of how this shop, and others like it, work and operate. If you find that this shop is not for you, we ask that you respectfully decline to participate.

ANIMALS BELONG EXCLUSIVELY TO THE SHOP AND THE OWNER OF THE ANIMAL. Do not ask for someone else’s pet, and do not use an image of someone else’s pet without permission from said someone.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CREATE A VOLATILE ENVIRONMENT. Do not attempt to create or expand upon “drama.” If someone loves the artwork so much that they’ve decided to take it and claim that it is their own on this or another website, please notify The Motorhome about it so that we may handle it calmly. If someone begins complaining about how much they hate the shop and/or the artwork with no viable suggestions to offer, again, that’s for us to handle and for you to ignore. Not everyone is going to like this concept or the art, and hopefully we’re all more than old enough to realize that; do not mob someone for having a differing opinion.

NO SOLICITORS. Asking for an affiliation is fine, but do not continually advertise for your own – or someone else’s – thread. Keep it in your signature, please.

BE RESPECTFUL. Please be mindful of fellow shoppers! Do not use pet/cert artwork from this thread elsewhere unless you are the owner of the pet. Do not use banner or other thread artwork anywhere unless you have permission to do so. Please ask if you have a question – we’re quite friendly here. If you have a private question or issue, please message The Motorhome account.

KEEP SPAM TO A MINIMUM. Try to have a conversation, rather than simply “bumping” the thread with four-letter words and/or emoticons. We love newcomers, so come on in and say hi!

PLEASE HOST YOUR OWN ADULT CERTED IMAGES. We use a private server that can take more strain than average, but it is still better that you host your own images if you want to put them in your signature, blog, journal, etc. Please use your own image server (e.g. a Photobucket account or a private domain/website) to host your pet images once they have grown to adulthood.

              What is this shop about?
A motorhome that is full of salamanders. Exactly what it says on the tin. The rest is up to you!

Should I role-play? Or do I have to?
No, you do not have to. In fact, it's suggested that you don't.

Basically, you're breeding newts and salamanders to get more interesting newts and salamanders. There isn't a whole lot to this shop - there isn't some elaborate backstory you need to know or pages upon pages of role-play lore. You could role-play yourself as a normal person taking care of a salamander, but that's about it. This is much more of a shop about art and fun events than it is about in-depth character development.

My friend and I really both want the same animal - can we co-own?
Co-owning is not permitted at this time. It would simply complicate things, especially when it comes to breeding. We may offer it as an option in the future, but for now, the answer is "no."

Can my salamander have ridiculous colors?
              Sure, why not?

Can my pet have a costume (cosplay)?
It depends. Items such as large hats and incredibly bulky clothing may not be very practical, and thus, may not be permitted. "Cosplays" will be handled on a case-by-case basis, but are generally permitted! This is a very silly shop, so why couldn't a salamander have a rocket launcher and a blue wig?

              Do you take pet trades?
Please see the "Sales, Customs & Pet Trades" post to check and see if we are taking pet trades or not!

              Is inbreeding allowed?
Yes, you can inbreed - however be warned, this causes an elevated mutation rate. Of course, if you want mutations, that's probably a plus.

Can I breed two salamanders of the same sex?
Thanks to the wonders of science (and some strange, questionably ethical fungicide), same-sex breeding is now permitted! There are no longer any restrictions about which gender can breed with which!

Is it possible to have a neotonous, polydactyl, polycephalic, cyclopean animal?
Yes, but it's sure going to take you a while unless you buy a custom pet.

I have a question that's not on the list - whom should I ask?
Just post it in the thread. Somebody will get back to you! If you feel it's a private question or you have an issue with someone, please send a private message to The Motorhome.

Neoteny - (COMMON) Animals that always retain their gills despite growing to sexual maturity are called "neotenes." These animals look and behave much like they did as juveniles. They can still reproduce, however it is likely that some of their offspring will be neotenes.

Polydactyly - (UNCOMMON) Animals born with more than the normal number of toes are known as "polydactyl" animals. Occasionally, animals may be born with extra legs as well as toes - a trait they may well pass on to their offspring.

Polycephaly - (RARE) Animals born with two heads instead of one. Technically, this is usually a form of conjoined twinning, and thus both animals are identical twins.

Cyclopean Eye Mutation - (VERY RARE) Animals with only a large, central eye in the middle of their skulls instead of two eyes on either side.

_____________________________________

So, you want to breed your salamanders? No problem. Breeding slots are open as random events, and very easy to sign up for. All you need are two salamanders and 30,000 gold. Both salamanders can be owned by you, or one can be owned by you and another by somebody else. No problem.

As always, there's a catch. Salamanders will produce between 2 and 8 viable offspring. However, you can only keep up to two per person involved in the breeding (if that's just you - you get to keep two, if it's a breeding between yours and someone else's salamander, you each get to pick two.) The remaining multitudes must be either given away at your request to friends or an event can be organized to find them new homes. If you are giving your salamanders' offspring away, keep in mind that only two salamanders can be granted to each friend. So if you wind up with 8, that's a lot of decision-making.

Individual salamanders can be bred as many times as you want, to as many different salamanders as you want, however their previous clutch must be juveniles before that salamander can breed again.

Are there any special rules for a “flatsale?” Are pet trades are open? How much are customs? All that and more – answered in this section!

This can be a tricky business, and it's important to know the nitty-gritty of each individual type of sale we do here at A Motorhome Full of Salamanders. This post is long and intimidating - but don't fret, you don't have to read all of it, just the part that affects what you want.

            _____________________________________

FLATSALES come in two flavors: speed and "flaffle" (flatsale-raffle.) The flatsale is your standard easy way of getting a pet. Several tadpoles will pop up in the thread, their gender and all other specifics already decided beforehand, and you will get to pick which one you want.

"Speed flatsales" are generally used only when an absolutely huge number of salamanders is being given out. They're pretty simple. Once the mule (The Motorhome) posts "GO" in big green letters, you post a number corresponding to which of that group of salamanders you would like to own. Do not edit your post! If someone else has beat you to it, you are free

The “Flatsale-Raffle,” also known as the “Flaffle”(thanks to our collective compulsive desire to abbreviate everything) is generally standard fare here at AFMOS (see, abbreviated again!) When a “Flatsale-Raffle” is announced, you will have a certain time slot to post in the thread for one – and only one – ticket. Along with your post for the ticket, you will put a list, in order, of which spirit house you want most, and which spirit house you want least. Once the call for ticket entries has passed, the shop mule will generate several numbers over a series of posts. If that number matches the number on your ticket, you win a spirit house! Spirit house winners are decided in the order that the random number generator picks them – meaning that the first winner will get to have his or her first pick, the second winner will either have his or her first pick, or, if his or her first pick has been taken by the first winner, his or her second pick, and so on and so forth. It sounds more complicated than it is.

Tickets for “Flatsale-Raffles” do not cost anything unless you are the winner of the pet, of course!

              Flatsale-Raffle Rules

Absolutely no secondary/“mule” accounts. Period. For Flatsale-Raffles, this is pretty obvious as to why: a mule account would grant you a second ticket, thereby making it unfair for everyone else who entered. If you accidentally post on a mule account, however, don’t panic - just make sure we know who the person behind the mule is, and don’t post on your main account.

Yes, you may “proxy” for someone. And no, you do not lose the right to your own ticket should you choose to proxy for a friend (or five friends!)

Follow all specific rules and fill out relevant forms at the time of the related flatsale post. There will often be a form attached that you fill out to get a ticket. This makes it much, much easier on sproutyhead.

Please be a good sport. The winners are decided at random – the thread mule will roll in the thread for randomly-generated numbers. If you do not get a salamander the first time around, do not panic – dice games and other mini-events will crop up frequently.

              Speed Flatsale Rules

No editing posts. This is pretty obvious as to why. Editing posts could make it look as though you’ve claimed a pet before someone else (who actually claimed the pet first!)

No secondary/“mule” accounts. Self-explanatory. Should you accidentally post on a mule account, please refrain from posting on your main account, and simply state who the face behind the mule once the fuss is over.

Yes, you may “proxy” for someone. Or multiple someones.

You may only claim one pet. This is pretty standard and self-explanatory. Each pet will have a number, and you will pick which number you want!

You may post as soon as The Motorhome mule account posts “GO" in big green letters. That means that the speed flatsale is open, and will stay open until all salamanders in that batch have been claimed.

            _____________________________________

RAFFLES are another popular way of getting a pet. What is the difference between a Flatsale-Raffle and a regular Raffle? Well, for one, you pay for each ticket you buy, regardless of whether or not you win. However, you can also generally buy more than one ticket (depending on the raffle, you could buy hundreds or even thousands!)

Raffle pets are often created for special occasions; raffles for standard salamanders are pretty much nonexistent. This means that the pet you are buying raffle tickets for is one wherein you will already know the gender, its coloration, and anything else.

              Raffle Rules

Absolutely no secondary/“mule” accounts. If you accidentally post on a secondary/ “mule” account, please just tell us who the face behind the “mule” is.

You may choose to give away the pet should you win. It is perfectly fine to win and then choose to give away the pet you have won to a friend.

Follow all specific rules and fill out relevant forms at the time of the related flatsale post. There will often be a form attached that you fill out to get a ticket. This makes it much, much easier on us.

Do not buy tickets for other people. Sorry, this just could become a big mess, so we're going to say "no" for now. You could, however, buy tickets yourself and choose to give away the pet should you win!

Please be a good sport. The winners are decided at random – the thread mule will roll in the thread for randomly-generated numbers.

            _____________________________________

AUCTIONS are pretty straight-forward. You bid a certain amount of money and pay up if you win. Auctions are generally for very elaborate salamanders and are often the focal point of an event! Auction rules can change from event to event, so make sure to read them when they appear!

              Auction Rules

You may choose to give away the pet should you win. It is perfectly fine to win and then choose to give away the pet you have won to a friend. However, you may not co-own.

Follow all specific rules and fill out relevant forms at the time of the related auction post. There will often be a form attached that you fill out. This makes it much, much easier on us.

Do not intimidate people from bidding. Do not brag about how much gold you have, or try to get so-and-so not to bid. Self-explanatory.

Bid items at lowest market price. We will likely sell them.

            _____________________________________

PET TRADES are simple, in theory. You want a salamander, and we want… whatever you're selling. Agree on what's being traded for what (a full custom, a semi-custom, a "cosplay", etc.) before sending off the pet trade form. In the case of a full or semi-custom, use the custom form in the custom section below!

              Pet Trade Rules

❂ Due to the erratic nature of scheduling and her online activity, A Motorhome Full of Salamanders/sproutyhead cannot take on any pets which require role-play or prolonged thread activity.

A pet of equal quality is expected in return.

We are not generally not big on tiny pixel pets or “feedables.”

Please arrange pet trades through PM to The Motorhome account.

CUSTOMS are tailor-made just for you! All you need to do is provide some words or an image, cough up a certain amount of gold, and whammo - you've got a pet made to your exact specifications.

              Prices run as follows:

Custom, Adult Stage - 150,000 gold.
              Cosplay/Elaborate Costume, Adult Stage - 400,000 gold.

              Custom, Growing - 300,000 gold.
              Cosplay/Elaborate Costume, Growing - 800,000 gold.

              Customs Rules

“Cosplays” are allowed on a case-by-case basis. Please have an image ready of what you would like your salamander to look like! Exact duplicates of taken "cosplays" are not allowed.

Trades must be presented first, and then confirmed once the pet has been received. Cancelling a trade without payment or explanation after a pet has been received will result in an immediate blacklisting.

Keep in mind that A Motorhome Full of Salamanders/sproutyhead does this for fun. If there is a serious problem that prevents Grant Avenue Botanical Nursery/sproutyhead from working on a custom pet, you will be refunded.

One "do-over" period is allowed, should you want something fixed on your custom pet. This is not an excuse to order a completely different concept on the same ticket, however - this is for minor tweaks only.

Please send a private message to The Motorhome account if customs are open and you would like to claim a slot. If you receive a slot (confirmed via PM), please fill out this form:

              Name of Pet:
              Gender of Pet:
              Name of Owner:
Type of Package (Custom Growing, Custom Adult Stage, etc. If you are unsure, please specify below and we'll get back to you on the price!):
Any mutations? (e.g. Polycephaly, cyclopean eye):
Adult Stage (See adult stages 1 2 3, and neonate in the "stages & mutations" post and tell us which stage you want! NOTE: Polycephalic salamanders are automatically on polycephalic lines.):
Description of what your pet will look like (include text, images, and links here):

BRIBES are open at all times, but the offer has to be really good. Sproutyhead handles all bribes. Aside from bribing her with gold and easy-to-sell items so that she can obtain said mask, you can choose to bribe her with fan-art of the salamanders, though. Well-done fanart that clearly has time spent on it will often result in at least a basic color semi-custom.
