Neith sat there late one evening, on the kitchen floor with a very wriggly and active Aquene.
...a very, very, very, VERY wriggly and active Aquene.
And around her, on the floor, something that looked suspiciously like coffee beans were scattered around everywhere. Around them, were all kinds of things belonging in kitchen cupboards. Pots, pans, containers, plastic jugs, everything and anything.
After a few moments, Neith's grasp on the very happy baby was lost and Aquene was off like a shot, crawling away towards a cupboard which was now empty of frying pans. Once inside, she pulled the doors shut with her very happy 'Buuuuh!'.
Neith sighed, and started ot try and sweep up the beans. She wasn't sure exactly, but it looked like Aquene had gotten to the coffee jar, opened it and eaten some, spilled the rest. Sometimes the girl's curious nature got on Neith's nerves, but she couldn't help be amused at how excited the toddler had gotten.
She sat down, and started to write into a notepad that was nearby, passing the time till the caffeine wore off and the little girl fell asleep.

Dear Diary
Aquene's curiosity is interesting to watch. For example, when around strangers, she's torn between being shy and being curious. If she sees something fascinating, she'll pick it up and do anything she can to make it do something. I'm glad I saved her bigger sister's toys, Aquene really likes to play with them. The ones that make noise at her seemed to worry her at first, but she makes noises back now. And on top of that, she can now TALK. In her own fashion, and it's nearly always sung. I don't know why it's sung, I used to sing to her and she liked that maybe?
Although I accept that she's very shy compared to the other girls I've raised, I can't help but wonder if I should try and prod her towards others her age? It can't hurt if she's left with another toddler, right? I mean, all she needs is to open up to a few toddlers and make a few friends. I wish people would ask for playdates, I'm sure she could really use a few at the moment.
She also walks, if she has support. That's become a problem, a walking, singing curious toddler who has to inspect anything she's never seen before. I'm SO glad she hasn't been bitten by any animals yet, she loves chasing them on her little wobbly legs. She and Elle don't get along sometimes, poor Elle gets tired of Aquene's never-ending attempts at questions. Just wait till the toddler can speak.
Right now though, I should really rescue her from the cupboard and take her to bed. She's bound to fall asleep sometime soon, right?
Neith sighed, and put down the pen.
