-+-Prompt-+-
Child Stage
It's Christmas time and the two of you decide to get together to buy gifts for your gaurdians all by yourself for the first time. What happens? Where do you go and what do you want to buy?

-+-Rules-+-
1. Make sure you post. If you leave your group for more than 72 hours without a post (and no notice) they may carry on without you.
2. Your rp does not have to be completed, but each member must have at least 10 posts by the time the contest ends
3. Use the Herald you have created for the contest
4. Literate RP please. No one liners and use some basic spelling and grammar- remember this is a contest
5. Keep the post order posted unless rule 1 is broken. If so send the mule a PM and he will send you a fall back prompt to answer independently.
6. Keep the OOC talk to a minimum. If you want to discuss things in detail you may use the contest or main thread, or at the very least use brackets to keep it seperate.

Sheiling hurriedly ran up the icy steps to Melanee's house. About five seconds after ringing the doorbell, he pressed it again repeatedly. "Come on, Melanee! My mom's waiting in the car to take us Christmas shopping!" he yelled, hoping she could hear him through the windows.

Melanee had been sitting in the living room, reading her favorite book as she heard the doorbell rang. She replaced her fairy bookmark into where she was up to, and left the book on the floor. "Who is it...?" She requested shyly, doubtful that the person on the other side of the door would hear her as she brushed her silvery hair behind her ears.

As she approached the door, Melanee heard the familiar voice of her best friend, Sheiling crying out for her attention. Instantly, a grin spread across her face and she seemed to lose her introverted personality as she rushed the rest of the way to the door. "I'm going out now mum!" She called out to her parents, who had already knew of her plans.

Quickly opening the door, Melanee reached out and grabbed a hold of Sheiling's hand with her own, smiling politely at his as she did so. "Come on, we can go now!" She giggled quietly, pulling the door closed behind her. It was the first time Melanee had been allowed to go out without her guardians, and she was excited.

Sheiling grinned as Melanee grabbed his hand.

"C'mon, m'lady, our carriage awaits," he said with a grand gesture directed at the car. It was going to be Christmas very soon, and Sheiling had wanted to pick out his own gift for Hayley this year. She agreed to let him go to the mall without her, as long as he brought someone, so he naturally asked his best friend Melanee to go.

Once plans were made, Sheiling started saving up all his allowance after realizing he might have to spend a bit more than he'd even thought of. He wanted his gift to be perfect, so he'd been wheedling Hayley and keeping an eye on her this week to see what she might want. He still didn't have any idea.

Once the two were buckled up in the car and Hayley had greeted Melanee, she drove them down the snow covered streets, Christmas lights from houses glittering in the early twilight and casting sparkling reflections on the snow.

"Now when we get to the mall, you two aren't to leave the building, unless there's an emergency, okay? I'll come to get you at 7:30, so be at the front doors then, the ones you'll go in when I drop you off."

"Mother, we are children, but we do not lack common sense. Please do not speak as if we do," Sheiling replied pompously.

"I apologize, my son," Hayley replied formally, cracking a smile at her own imitation.

"Must you mock me, Mother?" her son replied as they pulled up to the doors, but he was smiling all the same.

"Be careful, you two!" Hayley called as Sheiling got out and ran around to the other side and opened Melanee door for her.

"What a gentleman!" Melanee giggled as the door was opened for her, and she stepped out. She did not really like cars, or any other transport of the like. She did not show it though, or risk upsetting Sheiling. As quickly as possible she headed for the door to the shops, eager to leave the exhaust-fume-filled streets. "Any idea what you want to get your mum Shei Shei?" Melanee questioned politely, she had given him that nickname quite a while ago, for no specific reason.

"I might just pick my mummy some flowers, or make her a card.~" She hummed thoughtfully, her mind slightly off in the clouds as she thought up the possibilities. She did not really like store bought materials, as they seemed so....Impersonal... However, Sheiling had insisted they spent the day out together, and this had been the perfect oppertunity.

Melanee was not planning on purchasing anything, other then maybe a bit of food from the food court if the urge arose. However, when she got home that afternoon she planned to go through the garden and collect some of the flowers that had fallen to the ground. Doing so, she would make her mother a lovely bouquet and hand it to her along with a handmade card, and maybe some cookies.

"Maybe she would like a fish!" Melanee giggled, before realising that she herself would enjoy such an animal. Or any animal. However, sadly her mother thought that it would be too much responsibility for the child. Even though this was what was said, deep in her mind Melanee's mother actually did not like the thought, as she understood her child too well...She knew that all Melanee would do for days is stare at the animal, trying to converse with it...

Sheiling shook his head. "I don't have the slightest clue what to get her. I'm tired of just making crude little things. I know she says she loves them, but I want to change it up this time. I just really want to wow her."

Seeing Melanee go off in a trance, Sheiling frowned. "Is something wrong, Mels?" he asked in a concerned tone. Melanee's personality shone brightly once you knew her, but the little girl was still a bit introspective at times, and sometimes it just had a sad tinge to it.

Melanee giggled quietly as her attention was drawn back to the world. "Hehe~ Yep! I'm fine!" She smiled happily, slightly squeezing Sheiling's hand a little.
"Well no point just waiting around here, why don't we go inside?~" Her voice was feminine, harmonic and soothing. It was strange how she managed to get several qualities into a tone of voice, but it suited her.

"Maybe we could go to a book store! Your mummy might like books!" Melanee suggested happily as she began to gently tug Sheiling towards the door. "And afterwards we can get some snacks!" Melanee had not been this happy in a very long time. Ever since she was born, her mother had kept a close watch on her, trying to protect her. Of course that meant that she was never allowed out without at least another three people. And even then it was usually only for a few minutes at a time. Here she was, alone with her best friend, and they got several hours to look around. It was wonderful.

"If you're sure..." Sheiling replied worriedly. He was reassured, though, by Melanee's sudden change in mood, which he was used to. When Melanee mentioned books, Sheiling's eyes lit up.

"You're absolutely correct!" he exclaimed excitedly. "Mom's always writing, and she has about five bookcases at home that are overflowing. She's always said part of the reason she's a good writer is because of how much she reads." He quickly caught up to Melanee, walking by her side to the bookstore.

"So, have you asked Santa Claus to bestow upon you any certain gifts this year?" Sheiling asked with an amused smile and and roll of his wrist, fluttering his fingers tdown to imitate fairy dust. He wasn't sure if Melanee still believed in Santa Claus or not. He himself was a doubter, but deep in his heart somewhere, he still believed, just like any other child.

"Nah uh! I don't believe in Santa Claus!" Melanee stated independently, trying to sound older then she was. It didn't work. "I believe in the fairies!" She smiled happily, and before Sheiling had the chance to question her, she had already begun to explain. Not stopping their journey to the bookstore.

"You know it's said sometimes that is you get a biiig glass jar, like the ones fairies are kept in in movies? Yeah if you get one of those, write what you want on a piece of paper and put it in the jar...A fairy will come by and take it to read what you want for Christmas!" She giggled happily, using her hands to help describe the scene as she spoke.

Many passers by sent the two of them rather odd looks, as it was unusual to see two children, alone, in such a large area, talking about such strange topics. The journey to the book store took a while. Not because it was far away, but because they were so small. Only having short children's legs meant they couldn't take large enough steps to get there as fast as the adults could. Not like Melanee cared, however.

Sheiling laughed at his friend, who always tried so hard to be mature. His eyes shone as she described her explanation of Christmas. "That is the best Christmas belief I've ever heard, it's far more unique! I might just try it!" he exclaimed, his love of things slightly off kilter surfacing.

Sheiling paid no attention to the stares. He had grown used to it just from being a Herald. You can't exactly be a child their age going around with tiny wings, a tattoo, streaked hair, and pink and purple nails, or wearing silk clothing like Melanee without getting a few stares. Or, in the case of some kids, a few words, too. Sheiling didn't like it, but as long as no one bothered Melanee, he would be okay with it for now.

"So, are you going to ask the fairies for anything?" Sheiling asked his friend as the bookstore finally came into view.

"Ah huh!" She giggled happily, swaying slightly as she did so. This caused her dress to flow in the wind. "I'm going to ask for a kitty!" She giggled pleasantly as she tugged on Sheiling hand. "Come on! The book store is really close now! Lets hurry!" She continued to smile happily, a bit of sunlight reflecting in her blue eyes, which gave them a little twinkle.

Letting go of Sheiling's hand, she broke into a gentle sprint, her long white hair flowing behind her eagerly. "Come on Shei Shei! I'll race ya!" She giggled again before checking that her money was safely in her silk money pouch, which hung from a chain around her neck.

"If you get there before me, I'll buy you a cookie!" This statement made Melanee speed up her run as much as possible. She loved a challenge.

"Oh no you don't!" Sheiling yelled as he ran after her. He had longer legs, but Melanee ran lightly, as if on air, and beat him by a few seconds. "How...do you...do that?" he panted bending over trying to catch his breath afterwards.

As the two walked into the store, Sheiling thought of Melanee's wish. "Hey, Mel, isn't your Mom really strict? Will she let you keep a kitten?" he wondered. He thought it was a good idea for Melanee to have a little friend right at home, but he remembered her Mom might not agree.

Melanee also panted as she arrived at the store, but quickly straightened herself up and poked her tongue out at Sheiling. "Maybe you should buy me a cookie 'cause I won!" She joked cheekily and giggled.

At Sheiling's comment about her mother, Melanee began to frown deeply. "I know she is strict but...Maybe! Maybe she will let me have a kitten if I teach it not to pee on the carpet..." She mumbled before glancing into the shop, quickly getting distracted.

"Y...You find something you like...I'll be in the kids section.." Her voice trailed off as she noticed one of her favorite books on the shelf and began to walk over to it.

"I certainly will, I promise," Sheiling laughed. Sheiling had hope for his friend's dream, but noted the disappointed look on his friend's face. Frowning and wondering how he could help, he saw a section of books from just one author. Pulling one out, he mused on the name. "Stephen...King..."

It sounded vaguely familiar, and Sheiling thought he had heard his Mom mention the name. Thinking hard, he recalled two of the higher shelves on one of the bookcases at home were filled with books from this same guy. He brightened immediately at all the titles to choose from, and his eyes fell on one that was only released a month ago.

Sheiling thought for awhile, and recalled no trips to the bookstore, or mall even, in two months, at least. And his Mom hadn't mentioned Amazon.com in even longer. 'This will be perfect,' he decided, checking the price. It was $30.00 because it was a new hardcover. Looking into his wallet, he counted his money, and was surprised with how much he had saved. He had about $150 from chores and gifts from relatives. It could very well have bought...a pet.

Sheiling jolted at his idea, the wheels in his head beginning to spin. He probably wouldn't have enough to buy his Mom something, and that deterred him for a moment. He really wanted to make this Christmas gift special for her, but Melanee...she really seemed to need this.

There was a pet store in the mall with a good reputation, so he began to figure out his plan as he found the children's section, looking for his friend.

Melanee was standing in the far end of the childrens section, holding a teen novel in her hand. "Bah..All these books are too easy.." She whined quietly as she put the book back and turned around to find Sheiling looking for her. "Shei Shei! What's up? Got something for your mum yet?" She questioned happily, a small smile on her face.

"After we are done here can we please go look at the pet shop?" She giggled quietly, fiddling with the bangs of her hair shyly. "They have really cute kittens in at the moment!"
