Personality: Shiana is a young asari, only 140 years old in a species that can live for over a thousand years. She is in the Maiden stage of her life - the time when many young asari venture out into the galaxy to find both their desires and themselves. Shiana was determined to make a name for herself in her chosen field of alien biology, and has spent much of her life studying and researching rather than going out and having 'fun'.
Shiana is friendly, but reserved and a bit shy. She tends to be polite and formal to those she meets, holding her true feelings at one reserve, and is not given to emotional displays (or, indeed, expressing anything besides polite reserve). She highly dislikes being seen as inexperienced or naive, preferring instead to present a sense of quiet competence. Or so she hopes, at least.
Underneath her detached shell, Shiana is a ball of uncertainty; she's been taught all her life that the world works in a certain way, and is now discovering that what she learned was wrong. However, despite herself, she finds the shifts in her life to be a bit exciting as well. She does genuinely love her field of study, and can get excited over a properly-run experiment or new discovery. As a hobby, Shiana studies myth and folklore of alien societies, focusing on alien cryptozoology and mythological species.
History: Shiana T'Kora was born on Thessia, the asari homeworld, to an asari mother and a salarian father. Given the very long lifespans of the asari and the very short ones of the salarians, Shiana only vaguely remembers her father, though he did instill in her a love of learning and of the sciences. She quickly determined her field of study, and went on to excel in the biological sciences.
At the age of 138, Shiana was accepted onto a team of scientists sponsored by the Citadel Council, whose express purpose was to travel to the sites of new discoveries and record data that local teams might otherwise miss. It was at that time that she met Menkoli, an elcor botanist, and Arli'Khin nar Torray, a quarian engineer specializing in Prothean technology. The three of them worked together as a team for two Citadel-standard years... before everything went crazy.
The effects of Gehenna were felt in every universe; Citadel space was no exception. Uprisings in the Terminus Systems and a second Krogan Rebellion tore through the galaxy, followed by a devastating plague and the sudden catastrophic failure of crops on multiple granary worlds. Desperate to discover the cause, the Citadel Council ordered the teams out. Shiana, Menkoli, and Arli were dispatched to one of the granary worlds, Ceres.
Unfortunately, they never reached that world - a long string of events resulted in them being stranded on the uninhabited planet Pertica in the Ho Librae system, and the death of Universe isolated them from the rest of the worlds. Though they were in no danger of death as Pertica was more than capable of supporting life, they still searched for a way out. Called by a force she could neither name nor explain, Shiana found a functioning mass relay escape-pod system within one of the Prothean ruins on Pertica. Desperate for escape, the three team members activated the system.
The next thing Shiana knew, she was waking up on the world of the Pantheon, with a call in her heart leading her ever onward...
