The Night Everything Broke Down
Fate would have it that Ankou's newfound information would not find it's intended recipient... at least for quite a while. Adrian indeed went to the goddess's home, but no one answered - he waited some, but eventually had to give up and head back to the pantheon before it became dark enough to be truly dangerous.
He did not even notice the doors to the throne room, which always seemed to be open, were now closed... And even if he had noticed, he probably would have thought nothing of it. The plan was to go back to his rooms on top and settle in bed. Maybe chatter with Lyra some, now that he was feeling less antisocial. Find some way to enjoy himself, now that the situation seemed a bit less doomworthy.
The pyromancer had managed just that... and that was exactly why the wave hit. It was unlike anything he's ever felt before - like if somehow his insides wanted to crawl out of his body. The initial shock made him buckle out and scream in pure agony, eyes narrowing as if to stop the tears from falling.
Lyra was latching to his right arm, losing control of her own powers as screeched and writhed in pain. It wasn't long before his forearm was covered in a thin layer of ice. As for Jinx, she had latched on his other arm, claws extended without her own knowledge or control and sinking in the tender flesh, drawing out blood, calling out her master's name, calling out for his comfort and protection. Things that he could not give. She acted almost identically to a feral cat - wanting to desperately to be held that she lashed on and hurt in the process.
Both those things, those hurts, chain reactions from the cause were nothing compared to what was going on within. If it was possible to feel yourself erode from the inside out, it would probably be what exactly was happening. As far as Adrian knew, it might as well be real - his mind too disconnected from reality to understand what was truly happening.
Unseen and unsought about by most of the trio, a fourth being suffered as well. Ankou struggled to retain his capacity to think and what little capacity to act that he processed. His own pain was magnified by his host's mental lashings, the initial wave rushing in for what seemed to be hours instead of seconds. It was all too evident to him - if he did not do -something-, Adrian, who seemed worse off than his companions, would either lose his mind, or not survive. Neither scenarios sat well with the god, who, in despite wanting to do nothing but scream, reacted. Ankou reached for the surface and promptly shoved Adrian's consciousness as far down their shared psyche as he could manage - toward the relative sanctity of his own gem, and he bore the rest of the damage himself.
Hopefully... hopefully it wouldn't be too late. It was his last thought before the darkness came.
The initial wave finally let go of All That Was - there were only ripples left. Lyra felt on the ground, completely still beside a telltale twitch of her tail. Adrian's body did much the same as both host and deity lost grip over their shared body and passed out. Jinx was barely awake, mewling like a lost, wounded kitten as she curled into a tight ball.
It was over, and yet... it was only the beginning.
