The Abhorsen trilogy is my absolute favorite series, and Lirael is my favorite of those three. Tamora Pierce is my 2nd favorite author after Garth Nix. I love all of her series that take place in Tortall. However, I don't really love the circle ones. They are okay, but not awesomest.
heart The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater heart

My absolute favorite is Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Persuasion (also Austen) and The Ordinary Princess by M.M. Kaye are close second and third spots.

Versatile Prophet

Memories of Ice by Steven Erikson (part of the Malazan Book of the Fallen series)

The Great Gatsby & This Side of Paradise by Francis Scott Fitzgerald

I don't find Fitzgerald to be an extraordinarily skillful writer; I feel like his talent lies in his screenplays more than his novels. That being said, he just pours his soul into his work; his successful works are parallels of his personal life, and it's just great to see that passion developed in his characters.

I'm not a fan of modern novels, but I also really liked Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates.
