Nobody's mentioned Naked Lunch yet, eh? Interesting.
Well, if you're going to say Naked Lunch, then I'd recommend Burrough's other books, like the Wild Boys and Junky.

Off thetop of my head, I'd say American Psycho and s**t Magnet. I know American Psycho can sound a bit cliche, but this book is way too insane not to be mentioned. It was more graphic and callous than anything I've ever read.

I say s**t Magnet, which is basically Jim Goad's book about himself and the years leading up to his incarceration. It's the most brutally honest thing I've read. Regardless of whether or not I agree with everything he says, anyone who can be that unflinchingly open is most unhuman.

What Happened to Lani Garver by Carol Plum-Ucci. It's one of my favourite books ever, but it gets really out of hand towards the end; I remember that the last chapter had me in silent shock, wide eyed and lips slightly parted as the words engulfed me. It was so not cool....But I love the book for that, and I re-read it constantly.

i didnt see anything wrong with this book when i read it. i liked it, that i remember. but its been awhile since i read it.
I personally did not read this one, a friend told me about it. She couldn't even remember the title, but it sounded whack.

It was a fantasy about a prince and the life he leads. She said it was pretty boring for about the first half, at which point, this prince just randomly changes into a woman, and then has to deal with it.

Apparently it was way weird.
Lord of the Flies O.O
All of these boys get stranded on an island and start killing each other.
WTF
I know, I know, it's a classic, but I swear, that book scarred me for life.

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski screwed me up for a while. I couldn't sleep at night and ended up putting a heavy padlock on my closet.

Breaking Dawn.
Just because the main character was ready for death.

Edit: Oh oh oh, and The Devil's Footsteps by...someone I can't remember.
I don't enjoy reading the sort of modern literary fiction that essentially consists of the most screwed-up characters the author can invent, so I don't have a long list... most of them are books I didn't read by choice.

I had to read One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in high school and absolutely despised it. It's about really screwed-up people in a screwed-up place and... that's about it. Then there was the kids' book I was given as part of a little activity kit for children on a transatlantic flight ten years ago. It was about a girl in Australia, or somewhere, who ended up euthanizing her own grandmother. That's pretty screwed-up for a children's book, if you ask me.
The Island of Doctor Moreau by H.G. Wells. I can not describe it, it's it that crazy

The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy which is under one of Anne Rice's psuedonyms. This is the book/series that taught me that it is not always a good idea to read anything I can get my hands on.

You might disagree, but that's fine. For three books she was asking for him to off her human life.
You can't say that's normal.

For me, I would have to say Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk. Because it is about a beautiful super model that gets her jaw shot off.

OMGILOVETHATBOOK!!!

Sorry, I love Chuck Palahniuk's work. You see Twifans who see Meyer as the goddess of literature...well, That's how I am with Palahniuk.

And if you thought that was messed up, don't ever start his book Haunted. You won't get past page 21. I guarantee it.

Urgh. I got through chapter one and that surprised me.

Hrm. Yes. Haunted.

China Men by Maxine Hong Kingston. Or at least the prologue. I read that one a looong time ago. All I really remember was the man looking for women, getting injured, the women find him, tortue him and transform him into a woman. I don't actually think that the rest of the book was that bad.... hrm....

The Stranger by some guy with a really French sounding name. It's so horrible, it's screwed up! Zing!
