I'm a die hard book worm i swear lol <3
but when i find a god book i jsut get more into the author and focus mainly on authorsdrather then variety of books!
example: im stuck onames patterson lol
so ! Tell me some of our top 3 favorite books & what genre they fall into (:
i promise to look into as many as i can and i'll replywhat i think of them <3
thanks biggrin
1.The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. (Actually, anything from Brandon Sanderson besides the Alcatraz books) Fantasy
2. Castaways of the Flying Dutchman by Brian Jacques. I honestly don't know what genre this would be. It's mostly about a boy and his dog who have to help people according to an angel telling them what to do. It's so witty and adorable, though.
3. Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy. Wonderfully witty fantasy books. Not very deep plot-wise, and according to some people, very predictable. The witty factor keeps you drawn in, though and you keep reading!
White Fang by Jack London--Adventure, about a wolf in the Yukon
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee--Realism, about a young girl dealing with racism.
Mechanique: A Tale of the Circus Tresaulti by Genevieve Valentine--Steampunk, about a circus in a wartorn country.

Those are two of my faves!!!!!

And I also love pretty much all of the Forgotten Realms books.

Where Justice Does Not Prevail
My current favorites:

1. Looking for Alaska by John Green- an absolutely brilliant YA novel. It's often compared to Catcher In The Rye which makes a lot of sense, but, in my opinion, Miles is far more relatable than Holden. It's a book that really makes life both clearer and more vague at the same time.

2. On A Pale Horse by Piers Anthony- A fantasy/scifi about a man inhabiting the office of Death, and his struggles to overcome the plight of Evil and the task of collecting souls itself.

3.You Suck: A Love Story by Christopher Moore- A goofy young man gets turned into a vampire by his girlfriend, which is no big deal, because they live in San Francisco, and everyone's totally weird there, so they just continue their lives, working the night shift at Safeway, stealing blood from a drunk homeless guy, and whatever, until they get targeted by an ancient vampire douchenozzle, and they call on the help of a perky Goth girl and her gay, rat-fetishist BFF.

Skulduggery Pleasant is about a sarcastic detective, who also happens to be a living skeleton. By happenstance, he gets an apprentice. After that, it's the story of how they're kicking crime's butt using magic and fighting skills. Throughout all this fighting, Skulduggery is generally saying something funny or sarcastic, although, his partner says some pretty interesting stuff too. For example, the apprentice is thrown off a tower and asks Skulduggery why he didn't come catch her.
"'Was it a test?" she asked. "I mean, I know I'm still new at this, I'm still the rookie. Did you hang back to test me, to see if I'd be able to handle it alone?'
'Well, kind of,' he, [Skulduggery] said. 'Actually, no, nothing like that. My shoelace was untied. That's why I was late. That's why you were alone."
'I could have been killed because you were tying your shoelace?'
'An untied shoelace can be dangerous,' he said. 'I could have tripped.'
She stared at him. A moment dragged by.
'I'm joking,' he said at last.
She relaxed. 'Really?'
'Absolutely. I would have never tripped. I'm far too graceful.'" (Derek Landy, 21)

Picking just three is ... kind of impossible. o_o;; but I'll give it a shot:

1. The Rum Diary - Hunter S. Thompson
This isn't widely considered Hunter's best work. He wrote it when he was 22, which is why I think it has a certain degree of resonance for me, as well as the engagement I felt when I first read the book. I was on a plane to Malaga, Spain when I started reading - reflecting the central character,. Paul Kemp's journey to Puerto Rico. While the experiences were vastly different, the surroundings were very much the same, so I felt ... almost as though I was a part of the narrative, in a strange way. There's a huge difference between a family holiday (my experience) and living and working in journalism in the Caribbean, but I suppose the coincidence meant that I've nurtured a soft spot for this book since. And it's definitely a world away from the likes of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

2. American Psycho - Bret Easton Ellis
Okay, so ... actually, my favourite book by Bret Easton Ellis is probably The Rules of Attraction right now, so maybe I should have listed it ... but without American Psycho, I never would have picked up The Rules of Attraction. I've spent a long time reading books comfortably - the whole experience being more or less comfortable, not much distress on my part, and American Psycho didn't just yank me out of that zone, it grabbed me by my hair and smashed my face into this whole new reading experience where at times I was worried to turn the page because of what I might find, but did so anyway and was immensely pleased that I plucked up the courage to do so. You haven't read a book narrated by a psychopath until you've read this. It's intense, I broke into cold sweats in parts and can never eat brie again ... but it's worth it.

3. Invisible Monsters - Chuck Palahniuk
This was a tough one as well. This easily could have been Haunted, Fight Club, Choke, Snuff or any of the books I've read by Palahniuk to be totally honest, but Invisible Monsters touched me in an entirely different way. I found it to be on a different level than anything else I've read by him - perhaps this is largely down to the narrator/the narrative voice that Palahniuk uses throughout, but it really does come down to being far more than a novel about rejecting the ideals of human beauty. It's about that, but it's also about so much more - the relationship between siblings being the first one that comes to mind, and this was always a theme that hit me hard.

Other notable titles:

Hunter S. Thompson: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72, The Great Shark Hunt
Bret Easton Ellis: The Rules of Attraction, Less Than Zero, Imperial Bedrooms, The Informers, Lunar Park
Chuck Palahniuk: Fight Club, Snuff, Haunted, Choke, Lullaby, Survivor

And also:

Battle Royale - Koushun Takami
I'm not sure about the genres, i just read them xD

1. Looking For Alaska - John Green

2. The Perks of Being A Wallflower - Stephen Chbosky

3. Paper towns - John Green

1. Personal Demons by: Lisa Desrochers

If you had to choose between Heaven and Hell, which would it be? Are you sure about that...?
Frannie Cavanaugh is a good Catholic girl with a wicked streak. She's spent years keeping everyone at a distance - even her closest friends - and it seems her senior year will be more of the same...until Luc Cain enrolls in her class. No one knows where he came from, but Frannie can't seem to stay away from him. What she doesn't know is that Luc works in Acquisitions - for Hell - and she possesses a unique skill set that has the king of Hell tingling with anticipation. All Luc has to do is get her to sin, and he's as tempting as they come. Frannie doesn't stand a chance.
Unfortunately for Luc, Heaven has other plans, and the angel, Gabe, is going to do whatever it takes to make sure that Luc doesn't get what he came for. And it isn't long before they find themselves fighting for more than just her soul.
But if Luc fails, there will be Hell to pay...for all of them.

AMAZING book and the first of an amazing trilogy. book three comes out this may. ^_^

2. Shiver by: Maggie Stiefvater

For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf--her wolf--is a chilling presence she can't seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human . . . until the cold makes him shift back again.

Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It's her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human--or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever.

Another AMAZING book and first book in a trilogy. Highly recommended

((I'm seeing a paranormalish romance theme here...))

3. Will Grayson Will Grayson by: John Green and David Levithan

One cold night, in a most unlikely corner of Chicago, two teens—both named Will Grayson—are about to cross paths. As their worlds collide and intertwine, the Will Graysons find their lives going in new and unexpected directions, building toward romantic turns-of-heart and the epic production of history’s most fabulous high school musical.

Really good book as well
