i stole your pants
I'm afraid to say I don't have any recommendations. I'm just bringing this to attention because I'm in the same boat... except I really want to read a fantasy novel with gay women as female leads.

Woe are we. Got any of those to share? Only one's I've read so far are Santa Olivia and Roses & Thorns, I think.

None to share, sadly. This is the first time I've heard of Santa Olivia and Roses & Thorns, so I'll look into those. (Any good?)

Santa Olivia is by Jacqueline Carey. It's got boxing in it, which I've heard people complain about because I don't think its mentioned in the summary, but I - being no fan of sports by any stretch - had no problem with it. I think they exaggerate a bit.

Roses & Thorns I had to order online; it's a re-telling of Beauty and the Beast, by Chris Anne Wolfe.
i'm looking for some new books to read. i usually have a better interest in books that deal with drugs, abuse, drinking, sex, and things among that.
i wouldn't mind romance novels either.
please and thanks(:
If you want a civil war book then go for Frank and Jesse James: The Story Behind the Legend
My read list is getting short cause I'm running out of books that sound interesting.
I like romance/action/fantasy books. Something like the Nightworld series would be good.
im looking for uh... i suck at genres but something with like a crossover of divinities from different religions?

kinda like in Supernatural (TV series) but with a more complicated plot and not so Christian oriented
I'm looking for page-turning epic fantasy novels. Any recommendations?

Here are a few recommendations for those who haven't read it:

~ The Book Thief: A dark, absorbing WW2 story that is not from a point of view of someone in the death camps or in war - but trying to live a normal lifestyle, until a Jew is being kept in their basement. (Haven't finished yet!)

~ Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series: A similar to Harry Potter but more modern and urban. Involves the Greek Gods. (Only read the first book)

~ Harry Potter Series: Amazing characters and another absorbing book series.

~ Try reading some classics like Great Expectations!

~ Everlost: ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVORITES! I read it five times, and it is about a universe between Earth and the Afterlife. It has many twists at the end and you will love it. A great underrated book.

That's all I can recall that were good.
The Book Thief was AMAZING!

I finished The Book Thief, it was sad - yet a satisfactory closing.

Anything by Orson Scott Card is bound to be good. Ender, Bean, and Songbird are my favorites.
I am a great fan of Vonnegut (any), The Time Quartet by L'Engle, Boneshaker, and Leviathan (by Westerfeld, not Hobbes, lol). Unfortunately I lost my copy of both Boneshaker and Leviathan. :C
I'LL GET ANOTHER!
I'm bored with the stuff I have been reading (high school stuff and generic fantasy), and I need some new books/authors to read.

I can take complex stuff (Tolkien, Bronte, Faulkner) but I'm not above reading more simple things. Some of my favorite authors are Stephen King and Frank E. Peretti, but I'm really open to anything new. Just tell me your favourite or whatever you're reading now and I guess a little about it? Thanks!

Look into R.A. Salvatore, he wrote the Drizzt Do'Urden series which is one of my favourites. It's very well written and has a lot of different complexities you don't normally think of in fantasy literature.
i really recommend hush hush, fallen, evermore, and etc. if you like teen romance/dark fantasy, i could give you more if you're interested. i have a long long list.

I'm on the lookout for dark fantasy. I'd be grateful if somebody could point me in the right direction. I've already read all of Neil Gaiman's stuff, Anne Bishop's stuff, Garth Nix's stuff. I tried reading Holly Black and didn't really like it.

I'll keep checking back on this thread, I also like the idea.
just finished Abraham Lincon vampire hunter, pretty good, very inventive, kinda drags, worth reading.
If you're looking for some light summer reading that will undoubtedly broaden your understanding of the Canadian Forces and the political climate with which they have been contending since the 1970's, I highly recommend A Soldier First: Bullets, Bureaucrats and the Politics of War by General Rick Hillier.

If politics is not quite your cup of tea, Hooked on Murder by Betty Hechtman is a fun, fast read. It's the first in a series of murder mysteries.
