I'm looking for a book to read, I've run out of ideas. I'd prefer reading a series. Some books I've read and liked a lot are:
-Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel
-Maximum Ride
-Percy Jackson & The Olympians
-Harry Potter
So I'd say I'm more of a fantasy person. I like fantasies that take place in modern day. I don't like sci-fi or horror. Or vampire novels such as twilight. I think the age group I read the most are somewhere between elementary and young adult.

Hmm...modern-day fantasy...have you ever tried Peter S. Beagle? He wrote a very interesting modern-day fantasy, The Folk of the Air. And if you like ghost stories at all, you might consider Tamsin.

And a note about Beagle: you either love him, or you HATE him, but you have to try him to see if he's for you.
i STRONGLy reccomend
The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown
lots of drama mystery and murder
a timeless classic
I really enjoyed reading Tad William's series OtherLand.
The hunger games...

i've recently been reading a lot of non-fiction, and realistic fiction.

so i'm currently craving some fantasy - of this genre, my favourites have been Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrel, the His Dark Materials trilogy, and American Gods.

i also adore the magic realism of Haruki Murakami.

thanks for anything you can suggest

the magician the secrets of the immortal nicholas flamel
the sorceress the secrets of the immortal nicholas flamel

I will have to keep this thread in mind when I am done with the "Left Behind" series, although I do still have a long reading list a head of me. But if anyone likes vampire books that are out of the normal blood sucking creepy vampire I would recommend the "House of Night" Series by P.C. Cast it is really different from other vampire books.

just sayin love ur outfit!!!
My teacher told me earlier this week that I have to read more books. The problem is, I don't know what to read! gonk

I am looking for books in the fantasy genre (Something like Stardust ) and/or books that have a dystopian / utopian setting (Like The Giver or Downsiders).

If it helps, my new favorite book is The Night Tourist by Katherine Marsh. It is about a boy who goes into an underworld.

Thanks..

I have some suggestions for you.
Have you tried:

*Scott Westerfeld. You know, the "Uglies" series guy. He actually has quite a bit of science fiction, and I've really liked all of it that I've read. A new book of his just came out, "Leviathan," and "The Risen Empire" (2 books) and "Evolution's Darling" were cool, too.
*Diana Wynne Jones. If you like Tamora Pierce, you might like her, too.
*Patricia A. McKillip. A great fantasy writer with a fairy-tale feel to her books--not unlike "The Last Unicorn," but she doesn't make jokes like Beagle does (he wasn't taking things seriously when he wrote Unicorn, which may be why I like if so much). I've pretty much loved most of what she's done. Try "Alphabet of Thorn" or "The Forests of Serre" to get started on her.
*Robin McKinley. Some great fantasy. Try starting with "The Hero and the Crown" or "Dragonhaven." And "Sunshine" was plain awesome.
*Peter Dickinson. Try "The Ropemaker." (fantasy)
*Ursula K. LeGuin. She does both fantasy and sci-fi and is best known for The Earthsea Cycle (5 books starting with "The Wizard of Earthsea" wink and "The Left Hand of Darkness," sci-fi.
*Have you ever read "The Once and Future King" by T.H. White? Big, fat classic. Re-telling of the stories of King Arthur, and he writes with such depth, humor, and intelligence--you may enjoy this one.

Do you see the recommendations I gave to pendragon? Try out some of the fantasy ones on that list AND some of the books that she recommends in her post.

And if you really liked Stardust, read more Gaiman. And try Patricia A McKillip, like I told her to try.
I Like the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Saga, Easy read, tons of funnies.
can someone recommend a good book, possibly with vampires but not necessarily, bloody, mainly male characters or some female if they're of the stronger type. a storyline of some unique parody of southern society (possibly).
a haunted house novel would be welcome and not frowned upon.
(in the case of a haunted house novel, non-fiction would be appreciated as well. i've just finished the diary of ellen rimbauer)
i've liked the first anita blake novel, but the latter books not so much, and most if not all of the works by poppy z. brite.
in other words, i'd rather a down-to-earth type of novel with some graphic violence/ sex (if necessary), either brilliantly crafted or mature lead characters,
and guts. brilliant bloody guts (a story with something to stand for).
(if not able to recommend a good horror, then perhaps something like the outsiders? i liked those kinds of characters)

so, if anyone would help me out, that'd be greatly appreciated and if you like, i'll comment on one of your threads. thanks. 3nodding
