''Twilight is the safest time of day for us but also the saddest in a way..the end of another day the return of the night. Darkness is so predictable.''

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows any good books about Native American mythos and culture? I know this thread is more for fiction, but the topic is extremely broad--even if I narrow it down by tribe. Any ideas?

This thread is for any book recommendations at all, I don't believe I've said anywhere that people should only ask for fiction recommendations.

Anyway, there's a book called Sacred Narrative by Allan Dundes (ed) which is a collection of papers on myth in general, theories of myth, etc. But several of the papers focus on Native American myths.

I'd recomend Dostoyevsky's "The Brothers Karamazov". A very interesting read.

A book series that I have enjoyed lately is the Otherland series by Tad Williams. Yeah, they are almost 1,000 pages long per book and there are four books in total, but all together they are really well written and they pull you in to the story. If you've got lots of time on you're hands and if you enjoy a good read, I suggest these ones.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.

Do the people even read the rules?

I should just add the rules to one of my tektek formats.

Annoying, isn;t it? -_- The only thing I can think of doing is PMing a mod and asking them to change the name of the thread to 'Book Recommendations - are you looking for a new book?" that might make it more obvious that this isn't the place to dump random recommendations. Maybe not. If they're too stupid to read the rules, they're probably too stupid to take that hint, too.

I'm on the lookout for dark fantasy. I'd be grateful if somebody could point me in the right direction. I've already read all of Neil Gaiman's stuff, Anne Bishop's stuff, Garth Nix's stuff. I tried reading Holly Black and didn't really like it.

I'll keep checking back on this thread, I also like the idea.

Stephen King books are really good if u want dark, but it can b rude at times. hope that helps x

I'm looking for some good old fashioned ghost stories, perhaps in a similar style to The Turn of The Screw by Henry James.

Thanks.

You might like the His Dark Materials series by Phillip Pullman, if you aren't bothered by theological undertones.

I've been on the lookout for this kind of stuff, too--there's really not enough of it out there! It's frustrating.

(I'm subscribing to this thread--thnx)
