^Please don't read it. It's by the same person who wrote Twilight (and it's spelled 'Stephanie,' please learn to spell) and lacks....a lot. Fans of normal Sci-Fi will not enjoy this book (unless you're a teeny-bopper nut...then, I suppose, you'll like it). It's a blatant rip-off of Animorphs, plain and simple.

She's named after her father, so it's "Stephenie". No "a".

Personally, I liked it better then her other books. And she does, specifically market it as sci-fi for people who don't like sci-fi.

Also, not a rip-off of animorphs. In it, the aliens are called "souls" and they kinda look like grubs with tentacles. They attach to the base of the skull, and hook into the body, basically, so they can control it instead. Quite different from animorphs.

Could I have some si-fi recommendations?

I'd also like some conspiracy theory books. Preferably on all sorts of theories, but it's fine if it's only on one topic.

^^ Thanks.

Something by Jorge Luis Borges, like El Aleph... is not conspirancy but it's kinda cool
The Hurkel is a Happy Beast by Theodore Sturgeon
The City by Ray Bradbury

Hope it helps

I haven't read a good book in a long while... probably haven't read a book all the way through in about 2-3 years?
I was wondering if anyone could help me, since I'm going to visit the library soon and don't want to look like an idiot walking around for hours trying to find a good book.

Stories I like to read...

Romance novels. Specifically mature ones. I don't mind if there's a chapter that has a sex scene in it, I don't want anything over-the-top though. I don't mind if it's set in High School as long as it's not immature and for girly-girls.
I LOVE love-triangles. The girl that falls in love with the bad-guy type, sometimes the antagonist of the story. The dark, mysterious man type of deal...

Psychological, paranormal, "weird" stories. The ones usually about people who are outcasts, but again, nothing too stereotypical and over-the-top... people with psychic powers, witches, vampires, (please do not suggest Twilight or Vampire Diaries) psychological disorders.

Depressing, sad stories. Stories about those with dysfunctional families, drugs, abuse, death, heartbreak, you name it...

Here are some stories that I've read and liked, if it's not specific enough.

-Dark Visions by L.J. Smith
-Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
(I'll write more once I remember some)

Can someone help me?

Romance:
Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert... a classic one
Marianela by Benito Perez Galdos

Depressing story about a drug adict mother and her son (there's a movie starring Asia Argento and the a*****e of Marilyn Manson):
The heart is deceitful above all things by JT LeRoy

And the fact that the little brain-attacking aliens in Animorphs were also grublike and controlled their hosts has nothing to do with it? Oye vey. Why must this talentless hack continue making bad fanfictions?

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows any good books about Native American mythos and culture? I know this thread is more for fiction, but the topic is extremely broad--even if I narrow it down by tribe. Any ideas?

Skipping over the other stuff and to your Native American question -- fiction-wise, Charles deLint seems to deal with mythology in some of his work, though it overlaps with others as well. The Onion Girl is probably the best novel that I've read by him (and there's a lot of wolves/coyotes pulling from trickster myth, though it's been ages since I read it.) His short stories are pretty good. His other novels have been hit or miss for me.

The Wood Wife by Terri Windling I recall being a good read set in New Mexico. I don't, however, remember if it was based on any particular myth, but there's definitely a lot of images and the like. Both authors deal more with the reworking of fairytales and the like.

I'm a huge fan of trickster myth and that tends to help me narrow down searches when looking into Native American folklore. Sorry that I don't have any books specifically to recommend but looking up: wolf, coyote, blue jay, buffalo woman, raven, crow are good ways to find things. At least they have been for me. Good luck! smile
