arrow Edward finds bella intriguing. Bella found edward angelic and inhuman, yet
interesting. Therefore, that would explain edward's feelings of needing to
protect bella while staying distant and bellas fellings of needing to find
the truth in edward, even if it kills her. And this was before they
"officialy" met!!! sweatdrop
arrow Then, bella met him and edward found her even more intriguing and
Beautiful......

arrow ...Hence, bella opened up his heart and found the truth.

SPECIAL B-GIRL
I just simply heart Twilight. Edward is hot, smart, protective, strong and independent. What else could a girl ask for? The Twilight series is so cool I have an read all the books in the series! Edward and Bella have an awesome relationship. biggrin

Edward is lame and a girl like me doesn't want a guy like him. And they don't have an awesome relationship. It is a relationship based on lust not love. And I would kill a guy like Edward because he stalks you and watches you sleep. The average woman would dump a guy like that.

Is there going to be any intelligent defending of Twilight? Or some discussion at the very least?

IN DEFENSE OF TWILIGHT:

Some good aspects of the book are that--if you allow your mind to see past some of the creepy-ness of Edward's behavior--it can be quite cute.
arrow Teenage girls can relate because most girls like to feel as though they are protected by someone, or even that someone will do for them what they are willing to do for that person.
arrow It's an easy (and at times almost mindless) read--no really big words, and it falls along the lines of the types of stories the public likes to read; i.e. Boy gets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back. And it's a simple plot skeleton like that with a new twist (that being that some characters are vampires), that appeals to a majority of people's taste.
arrow As cheesy as this sounds--if you have a crush, it's a fun read, because some of the things Edward does/says can be very sweet, and it's fun if you switch Edward out with your own object of interest.
arrow Meyer goes into such detail with Bella's thoughts, that the book sort of pollutes your own thoughts so if you're having a hard day, you can read Twilight and feel like someone is thinking for you. sweatdrop

Personally, I believe the book would be better had it been one, and cut out all the vampire stuff--but that changes the whole story.

I agree with you on the "it's a mindless read" point but the others, not so much.

If I had a crush, I wouldn't put him or her in the place of Edward or any other book character. Doesn't make sense to me to put a real person in a fictional character's place. But that's my opinion.
First the anti-thread, now the old Twilight thread got moved?
Hopefully this one stays on topic at least.

I wrote that wrong--I meant like, that you can imagine your crush saying some of the things that Edward (or in some cases Bella) would say, and it's just a cute little thing to make you feel warm and fuzzy 3nodding . I don't mean to replace Edward/Bella/etc entirely with whoever your love interest may be and assume they would be that person if a relationship with that person ever did ensue.

My problems with the books are yes it is a "mindless" read and easy at that. See I have this problem where I like thoughtful books and it has to really make me think and see something different. In Twilight there was no thinking... my view didn't change because of the writing. And I know people love something easy and all that, but writing isn't about that and it is about something so much more. Authors just don't sit down and write off their dreams. Authors take the time and go through many many drafts to form a coherent story while trying to install a moral of sort. Since Stephenie Meyer isn't that great of an author she could not grasp this concept and create a story that make you view something in a different perspective. Maybe not all good books are like that, but the ones I have read give me some food for thought.

Twilight just showed me that I could write better than Stephenie Meyer even with my grammar mistakes.

Question: What makes Edward better than Jacob? And what would have happened if she chose Jacob over Edward?

I'll answer it later, I just thought it would be an interesting discussion because I always thought what if she made Bella choose Jacob over Edward to face a normal life. Would this made it better or worse?

Around page 3, I posted an intelligent (well, at least I thought it was) review of it.

And here I am, again biggrin

To those who complain about the lack of plot - it's a love story. There is conflict, but it's very shallow. It's not meant to be a life-altering, deep personal journey. It's about a girl who falls in love with a vampire, that's all.

At first I found Edward's "stalking" to be a bit much as well, but the more I dwelled on it, the more I found how much I'd like a nice, sexy, intelligent, strong guy to do that for me. Their love isn't based on lust, it's based on intrigue. They're both so curious about what attracts them so strongly to the other. It's also not just Bella's scent that pulls Edward in. He can't read her mind, and he has no clue why. He can't read her like he does others, so he needs to find out more about her and what she's thinking.

As I said, it was an enjoyable read as well. The writing was mediocre at best but the simplicity is what allowed me to focus on the characters, whom I actually enjoyed very much. One is able to relate to the characters - I know I personally wish I was Bella, and that I had an Edward. And there are several people in my life who parallel the other characters' personalities.

The writing itself was over-fluffed and prolix, but she's no Shakespeare. She's just a woman who had an idea for a story and jotted it down. There's no need to attack her based on her writing skills. Obviously some people thought she was good enough to get published. And others, like myself, don't care about the writing, but rather the story behind it.

I realize many fans go crazy over Twilight, but not all of us are like that. So if the reason for your dislike is the fanbase, please do yourself a favor and open your eyes. There are normal people who enjoy Twilight, and like in everything, there are the crazies.
i heart heart heart heart twilight and Edward loves Bella because for him maybe its not all about looks and its about the personality. Bella always surprises Edward and he loves her because...well you cant really explain it. i mean really can most people explain what they love about people in other ways than: shes pretty or shes nice or shes funny. but i think Edward really loves Bella in a way that you cant explain that way. oh and i completely agree about the movie. my sister who also loved the books was cracking up it was so bad. i knew it was going to be bad but not THAT bad. the best actor in the movie was probably the girl who played Jessica. the only good scene in the movie was the base ball scene for crying out loud! why does everyone love the movie so much????????????? i was so dicipointed i almost started crying any way very disappointing so now i have to go cry my eyes out so ya.............. crying crying crying crying crying crying crying crying cry cry cry
i would def suggest getting to the fourth book. oh and edward loves bella because shes hot and smells damn good

It's not a love story... I don't see it at all. Bella and Edward have the chemistry of cardboard cutouts, it just doesn't work...

Hmm, a lot of people have been saying that. I find their relationship to be chock full of chemistry actually.
