Bloom Mousy
Honestly, if I were in Bella's place, I'd quote Seto Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged:
"Screw the rules."
And besides, playing damsel in distress is dumb. Also, 'Don't be a hero' applies if you're STARTING the fight, not defending yourself. That's probably why I don't like Bella because she's too spineless. I'm reading New Moon and it seems like she's trying to kill herself with that motorcycle.
Rule #17 applies in any case that there are a large number of monsters trying to hunt you. It actually makes more sense to say that Rule #17 -doesn't- apply when you're starting a fight.
True, true. But there's gonna be that part of you that will look in the mirror and say 'I'm tired of running.'
I provide the following example from Umineko:
Near the end of EP2, 'Turn of the Golden Witch', two survivors remain on the island; Rosa and her daughter Maria. They're being chased by goat headed servants who would kill and EAT them and they're running for their lives. Maria trips and cries out for Rosa, who in turn shoots the goat in the head, killing it.
Now before anyone says 'Well, she has a gun, she can fend it off', she also improvises like using a gold ingot to knock a goat out or stabbed one in the eye with a fountain pen, killing it.
Now, Rosa knows neither will make it out alive even with running (she hurt her ankle and Maria refuses to leave her). So instead of cowering, she fights with everything she has.

But my point is this: Running will only delay time. And Rule 17...screw it.
