In terms of genre, characters, and style, I think the series that made me feel as close as I did to when I read Harry Potter was Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. It's got that wry humor that I enjoyed with the earlier Harry Potter books, a number of really fantastic characters you can't help but love, and meaningful storytelling.
The series contains over 30 books, but if you want to just lean into it a bit to see what his style of writing is, you can start with the Tifanny Aching series (starting with The Wee Free Men), which are the author's young adult books and can be read without any prior knowledge of the Discworld setting.
His most recent book came out early this month.
