Welcome to Gaia! ::

It's a fan fiction I found on deviantART completely by accident. It's from the Bakugan fandom (which is where my other victims have come from). If there is a check list for what makes a bad fic, this has most, if not all things checked off. It has: OCs that range from bland to annoying to Sue, disturbingly handled rape subplot, misogyny, confusing and convoluted plot (I think there's four right now and none have been resolved), several canon characters are complete assholes for no apparent reason, atrocious writing (it's the script style that is the reason scripts aren't allowed on FF.net), then mockingly buried beneath all of the crap are some grains of good concepts that might be different or interesting if handled by just about anyone but this guy.

I completely understand. That's why I knew by the end of the second chapter that this needed a sporking. That being said, I probably won't start for a few weeks. I have one more small fish I want to fry before taking this on.

Nothing good comes out of gaming fandoms. You just never know what people are going to write. sweatdrop

I think that sometimes the writers don't really read, so they don't know how to write by following examples.

*many facepalms occur*

Just read.

@Bel
I want to take out this one awful spite fic. It's two chapters long, and the second chapter has a somewhat disturbing scene. After that I'm beating this fic down.

Ugh, gross. Based on a summary that new fic sounds like a Fifty Shades rip off.

Although what is the Twilight fandom's obsession with making Edward dangerous and kinky and Bella naive and innocent, when Edward has more conservative views on sex, and Bella wanted all the sex she could get?

@Duet
Actually, it's an Anime (granted, the Anime is essentially a marketing tool for a game, plus there are video game spinoffs, but it'll really be better if I just hit the Anime). Although I don't think there are a lot of big readers in this fandom based on the fic quality.

What's that one about?

I don't know. They think girls can't be kinky and men are always the ones that initiate sex. It's really out of character for Edward, though.

Quote:
Professor Gabriel Emerson, a specialist in Dante and the art of seduction, believes he has already earned his exile to the lower circles of hell. Since redemption is impossible, there is no reason to refrain from indulging in a life of pleasurable sin, using his notorious good looks and sophisticated charm as a means to gratify his every whim.

Hello wish fulfillment-driven plot and character. I hate you. What the hell is "Dante" anyway? Is he like really good at writing like Dante or something?

Quote:
But when he meets Julia Mitchell, a brilliant, lovely, and innocent grad student with the achingly familiar eyes of an angel, all of his cynical convictions are challenged. Her mysterious allure and the havoc she wreaks on his self-satisfied existence cause him to lash out at her, while her quiet beauty and innate goodness consistently undermine his control, tempting him beyond measure.

I smell abuse. Glorified abuse.

Quote:
Despite surviving a traumatic childhood, nothing has shaken Julia's faith that redemption is possible for everyone-everyone but her. Her unworthiness torments her,since the only man she will ever love has managed to forget her very existence, failing to even recognize her when they reconnect.

How in the hell is she unworthy? I am sick of reading about women who find themselves unworthy. She was just describes as being super speshul and pure in a very Mary Sue way.

Quote:
Too naive to see that Gabriel's hostility is a mask for his increasing obsession with her, Julia forces him to come to grips with his past while she continues to unwittingly torment his senses. His fascination grows into a dangerous preoccupation, for Julia is forbidden fruit. Will Gabriel survive the inferno, or will he succumb to the flames?

THE CLICHE. IT HURTS. Okay, I already hate this thing just based on the summary. Has anyone seen the original fic? Where can I find it?

I know, but what I'm saying is that not a lot of good fanfics come out because most of the animes, like Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh, tend to have fans that write the crappiest/creepiest s**t possible just to be or make it known.

That's why I avoid reading fanfics sometimes; you just never know what's written. I'm scared to read YYH fanfiction! ....The pairings some of the fans come up with or use good pairings and...I don't even wanna go there.

I just don't. I love that anime too much to even try and talk about it.
@Bel
Basically, a shipper thinks a minor character is a "JERK FACE", so naturally the response is to turn the character into a creepy stalker who tries to get in the way of his/her favorite couple, then have the man in the couple kill him and dump the body in a river.

Yeah, I have noticed that a lot of weaker fan fics tend to fall back on stale archetypes instead of how the characters actually act.

Yep, that sounds awful. Maybe he's an expert on Dante's Inferno so there can be "deep" discussions of heaven and hell.

@Duet
I've found some pleasant surprises, but yeah, most Anime fan fics tend to be forgettable crap.

Oh, do you go on TVTropes? They have a fan fic recommendation page, if you want to try to find some good YYH stuff, check there.

Bluh! That's terrible! There are characters I hate, but I'm usually supposed to hate them and I feel no need to do something like that. L

Unless if it's a hilarious Sue hunting cross over. Then I would write that.

I dislike shippers, unless if they're Nepeta. Nepeta is okay because she's cute and most of her ships make sense.

Yeah, I doubt there will be any depth. I'm guessing the author misinterpreted the whole thing, like anything else Meyer or James have referenced. Why do all of the Twifics have to relate to a literary classic like that? Why can't they just stand on their own instead of comparing themselves to great past works?

There are characters I hate too, but I choose to not write about them, so I can write things I can enjoy. Although Sue hunting is fun (I've found some real gems in the comment section at Das Sporking).

If a shipper acts mature (doesn't kill/insult 'threats' to the OTP) and does something interesting with the characters I like them.

Follow the leader? Meyer did heavily reference a lot of classics, since they write Twi Fics, they're fans of her work and would probably want to try what she does when writing. Plus, I honestly doubt a lot of them know she got a lot wrong. Most readers assume the writer knows what he/she's talking about until he/she gets something wrong that breaks suspension of disbelief.

Yeah, as long as their nice about it... but can't they just go with whatever the author thinks is best for the characters? That's what I do. I don't care about who gets together with who, it doesn't make much sense to care about that to me. But, with some people, that's just as interesting as the plot itself and I guess I can respect that.

Maybe. But doing that is so damn boring and kind of stupid. Sometimes I feel like an author is cheapening their own work by comparing it to something else, even if it is good on its own. I really liked Delirium, but the author tried to pull a parallel to Romeo and Juliet, but it didn't really work that well. It stands on its own just fine as a fresh and original story.

Yeah, Meyer is just spouting off whatever interpretation she heard in school of R&J, which is wrong, and possibly any other book. She just sucks at reading comprehension.
