Eh, I've had worse. Someone went berserk when I thought yaoi and slash meant the same thing (I've only seen a handful of people who don't use the terms interchangeably, but you can't mix it up for people who think slash is srs business), and I found out that some of the best ways to annoy huge chunks of the serebii.net forum users is to suggest a moveset that isn't on Smogon (how dare I ask for feedback on a combo that worked nicely in game but was high risk) and to not think Paul has a good motivation to be a total douche (that battle had great emotional effect on Paul, shown by how he was about as expressionless as usual and besides, Pearl Harbor was one bombing and look what happened. I really wish I was joking about that one).
Wait. How does Pearl Harbor relate to Pokemon or Yaoi? I'm confused. I complained that one Pokemon battle is a really weak motivation for Paul to become a power obsessed asshat, among the comments thrown at me from the Paul fans was essentially, "yeah, well Pearl Harbor was only one battle". If I'd seen that comment earlier I wouldn't have backed down, because people died at Pearl Harbor, unlike that crappy Pokemon battle.
Again, I ask: How does Pearl Harbor relate to Pokemon?
People are strange on the interwebs, I swear. sweatdrop
I have no idea. I don't want to try to understand the type of mind that thinks "OMGz this person doesn't understand Paul's deep motivation. Maybe if I compare it to an event that lead America into WWII this person will understand and be converted"
Like the Edward Cullen argument, you can compare a bunch of great leaders from back when, but he's nothing like them. Nothing.
He's a jerk. Plain and simple. He doesn't care much about anything but himself and his odd yet disturbing motivations. Heh, I don't know. How do people compare Edward to great leaders? I've never heard that before, and that sounds slightly more logical than Reggie lost a Pokemon battle=Pearl Harbor.
Honestly, that episode made Paul and Reggie all the more detestable to me. Yeah, I guess it's sad that his brother gave up on his dream after one loss. But instead of trying to, I don't know, use Reggie's methods to become a champion in his place, Paul decides to become a complete and utter douche, and Reggie lets him. Reggie is a stupid worthless enabler. [rant] A lot of people compare Paul to the GSC rival, Silver. They have a similar role in story (character who treats Pokemon roughly and serves as a foil to a protagonist) but Silver works better in my opinion. In game Silver is kind of pathetic and tries to make up for that by being a bully, and his father just dumped him on the street when he was eight, so kindness probably doesn't come to him easily. I know it's cliched, but he's a douche because he wasn't hugged enough by his jackass father and is overcompensating by being an a** and tearing apart his father's criminal organization to get attention. He has a stronger motivation and you know what, Silver learns to treat his Pokemon kindly, and improves enough to trigger his Golbat's evolution into Crobat (which can only be done if a Pokemon is happy and likes its trainer). What does Paul do? I think he starts using Pokemon centers when his Pokemon are hurt, BUT THAT'S JUST FREAKING COMMON SENSE. HOW MANY BATTLES DO YOU WIN WITH INJURED POKEMON? NOT A LOT, AND HOW MANY REGIONS DID THIS DUMBASS SUPPOSEDLY GO THROUGH WITHOUT FIGURING THAT OUT? Oh man, I think there's a bunch of Pokemon abandoned on the road side in various regions because they couldn't perform well due to an infected injury. Nice job, genius. [/end rant]
We're really off topic...Bel and Alex are talking about their writing careers, and we're talking about Pokemon and jerks in other forums.
