I like most "classics" and enjoyed (or at least didn't dislike) most of the ones discussed so far. However, I do absolutely hate anything and everything written by Ernest freakin Hemingway. A pacifist ambulance driver journalist writing "war" novels. Seriously dude... seriously? I don't see the value in any of his books.

___● Of Mice and Men. A terrible, terrible read. This is mostly due to the fact that I find having accents written out actually distracts me from the narrative. I just hated everything they said.

I also hated The Great Gatsby. (That being said, I hate most books that concern themselves with class and social hierarchy. Blech.)

And last but not least, A Handmaid's Tale! Everything about this book is terrible. Just everything. Especially the ending.

I hated Heart of Darkness. I didn't really understand it when I read it, but I definitely hated it. I also hate pretty much everything Nathaniel Hawthorne ever wrote, including but not limited to The Scarlet Letter. I've read a lot of his short stories and they've all been very irritating. If I can guess what the ending of the story will be about one paragraph into it, you have failed as a writer, Nathaniel. stressed

You know what else is terrible? Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser. It's just a really poorly written book. Oh, and Billy Budd. Can't remember who wrote it, but it was a drag. I also personally don't care for Mark Twain, for many reasons I don't care to articulate right now. He just drives me nuts.

After my favorite character died, I lost interest in the story completely. It just wasn't good to me.

A Christmas Carol is by far the worst classic book ever. I can't comprehend why there was so many movies. It's so bland and horrible.

♠ I quite liked The Great Gatsby actually.
Favorite? To Kill a Mockingbird, A Tale of Two Cities, or In Cold Blood.

Despised? 1984. God that book was torture to get through. Yes, it had many insightful themes, and I won't say it's a bad book, but man did I hate it.

On the other hand I was surprised to like The Sound and the Fury. It wasn't nearly as bad as people made it out to be. It was kind of fun to read if anything.
