The very thought of Heart of Darkness makes me cringe! "The horror! The horror!"- the ONLY memorable quote in that book ONLY because it perfectly describes my feelings for HoD.

At least The Great Gatsby had beautiful cover art...though it only attests to the superficiality of the entire book.
ever read moby d**k? hate that book. pointless.

there are a couple classes that read HoD at my school. most of my friends liked it.

noo I have not read moby d**k. its size is daunting.
I don't understand people who like HoD. I couldn't get through a paragraph without my eyes glazing over. More power to them I guess :/
yeah, some books are like that. you just have to push through them. reread the big fat nonsensical sentences. laugh at the good bits. struggle to stay awake. once i get my teeth into the plot i'm fine.

i just couldn't find a character i halfway liked, and nothing happened. it took them half the book to even get close to the ship, and then they didn't get on 'cause some guy was babbling about a mutiny. i don't know, it just irritated me.
Ha! Those long books could definitely do without several passages. Still, long books at least have their length as an excuse for their occasional dullness. Short books? No excuses, HoD, no excuses.
To Kill a Mockingbird. I don't care what anyone says, that book made me fall asleep.
Their Eyes Were Watching God

I cannot tell you with words how much I hate, I LOATHE, this book.

I can appreciate it for a book and why we had to read it, but I agree. Scout makes me a bit upset just there. As a tomboy put in the same situation I don't know how her time period made that much of a difference as those around me when I was that age act as if they were from then anyway.

There are some classic books that I dislike to the extreme, maybe because we were forced to read them.
I don't like Catch-22. It had a good storyline (ish), but the language and some of the situations just put me off...
I don't like To Kill a Mockingbird. It put me far past asleep.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn -- with the dialect in it, it was so confusing D:
The Scarlet Letter. There's nothing that anyone can say to make me like this book.

I didn't care much for that book either...it was an easy read but the guy getting rabies at the end was absurd.

I've attempted to read Catch-22 and The Scarlet Letter without much success...seemed pretty dull razz

I read To Kill a Mockingbird a loooong time ago but I remember I liked it.
And yeah Huck Finn can get crazy but that's what I loved about it! It used all this slang my English teacher would have murdered me for using and got away with it.

That's actually not all that bad. I enjoy Shakespeare's plays. The Comedy of Errors is one of the better ones.
I just added a poll...let me know if I should add another option!

and yes Shakespeare is GREAT

especially considering how he gets it to begin with. I mean, if I were to tell you that a character was going to die from rabies, you'd be a little thrown back, but it wouldn't be ridiculous. Now if I were to tell you that a character was going to die by getting shot after having hallucinations caused by rabies that he contracted from a rabid dog that was riding a cow in the middle of a hurricane, you'd think I was pulling stuff out of my a** to try and finish the story in 10 minutes.
